I couldn’t give a shit about how Australia is viewed in the world today.
Who says “the world” knows what is best for us?? Like the UN??? We have our own destiny and dreams that should not be determined by world opinion because “world opinion” does not have our interests at heart.

I want this country to be great and stay great. It is a paradise, and I for one am not going to sit here and let it get taken over by a bunch of islamic thugs.
And yes,,,it is a compassionate county still, maybe too much so.

well Labor in the UK have had 9 years to stuff up the economy and increase interest rates but they haven’t and Helen Clarke has had 8 years in NZ and to date their economy appears to be booming …..Yes that’s right , John Howard has had nothing to do with our economy doing so well. We are riding on resources and mineral boom. Just look at the socialist governemnts of WA and QLD !!! WA in particular is booming thanks to the Chinese buying rescources and minerals. I will also remind you that it was Keating/Hawke that floated our dollar in the 80′s and deregulated banking, airline and other industries. These alone are what has helped Australia become what it is today. But enough of the economy – it’s boring. I am interested in how Australia is viewed in the world today and making it the compassionate country it used to be.

I never said I was an economic expert – those are your words.

I was merely stating an economic reality under the Keating govt and the same happened in the Cain-Kirner years in Victoria. Kennet had to clean up the mess and now Bracks is reaping the financial benefit of the Kennet years. And has more land tax, gambling revenue than ever before.

We have very low interest rates with a liberal government.

Perhaps the UK and NZ labor govts. didn’t have a huge financial mess to clean up after the previous government?

i was being sarcastic. I know that people of your ilk generally vote One Nation, Family First or Liberal. Compassionate , educated people tend to vote left and i call tell you are neither. And being such an expert on economics you may wish to explain why NZ and the UK are enjoing their lowest interest rates in living memory – both with very left wing governments . Can’t wait for the explanation…

As for rising from the dead: faith, or if you believe in the afterlife.

No one can prove any of the above as well you know. I am complimented that you think I can out-think 2000 years of theological scholarship!

I don’t know how old you are Atheist: when Keating was in power and mortgage rates were 17%+, and I almost lost my house, and I saw countless small businesses go broke because of this “feral abacus”. Unemployment was rampant also. I remember it too well.

Labor’s record in financial matters is pretty bad.

I will vote for whoever looks after this country the best – you figure it out, even though you will probably get it wrong.

“Socialism” as you mention above can also be called “humanity” here. What is wrong with caring for your fellow man?

“King of the Jews”: He was descended from a line of kings – Hashomite, if my memory serves me. Also, this label was applied to him by many others. Someone may correct me if I am wrong but I am not so sure He that described himself this way.

“Virgin Birth”: he didn’t make this claim either. It was an invention of the early church and no doubt borrowed from the Mithras legend.(google it)

“Miracles” who knows? It depends what you consider a miracle.

And FYI there are Messianic Jews who believe in him.

I still don’t see how he was a fraud. He believed what He preached, and what He preached was ways to improve the human condition.

What a simplistic, infantile declaration. The reason you enjoy peace in our time is because somebody before you thought it a good idea to stand up to oppressors and fight to prevent them from taking over the world. The cause of WWII may not have been good but the reaction to it was and the people who fought it in the name of God or in the name of freedom did a very good thing.

Just like Islam, the Third Reich had a plan for “peace” which included subjugating the opposition and ruthlessly retaliating against any dissension. Islamists use Sharia law to enforce the peace, but it ain’t very peaceful for the people who live under it. Therefore, there very well could be a bad peace and it in fact, does exist today.

The IRA, the Tamil Tigers, ETA and the Sikh terrorist groups are all fighting some insignificant regional conflicts which have (almost) no impact on the history of the world or our future.

None of them seek world-domination, have a record of persistently trying to conquer the world for 1350 years, none of these groups is presently fighting 30+ jihad wars world-wide in order to make the world Islamic.

Please start making some effort to educate yourself!
