AN Australian army captain is the alleged mastermind of the theft and sale of eight defence force rocket launchers, police say.
The Australian Federal Police and New South Wales Police Force now say eight, not seven, anti-tank weapons were stolen from the military.
Police today arrested two men, aged 46 and 39, from Wattle Grove and Mount Annan, in Sydney’s southwest, and a 63-year-old woman from Tahmoor, south-west of Sydney, in simultaneous police raids about 6am (AEST) today.
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Terry Collins said the 46-year-old man was an army captain who worked closely with munitions.
“We will allege that a captain in the defence force was a mastermind and a key player in regard to the theft and distribution of these (rocket launchers) to criminal elements in the community,” Mr Collins said.
“We will allege the captain had intimate knowledge and had worked very closely in the area where he had access to those type of weapons.”
The second man is a former ADF officer, but police today would not give any details of when he left, his former rank or where he worked. Formal charges are yet to be laid against the three people, but it was expected they would face Sydney’s Central Local Court later today.
Police said the two men are expected to face charges of theft of Commonwealth property among other offences.
The woman is expected to be charged with concealing a serious offence.
Their arrests bring to four the total number of people arrested over the weapons theft.
Abdul Rahman was arrested at a house in Leumeah, in Sydney’s southwest, late last year and charged with 17 offences over the stolen rocket launchers.
Police allege Rahman, 28, had supplied five of the weapons to one of the men arrested in anti-terrorism raids in Sydney in November 2005.
Mr Collins said only one anti-tank rocket launcher has been recovered by police.
He said extensive searches had been carried out in bushland for the missing seven weapons, but their whereabouts were unknown.
The captain worked as a munitions technical officer at the army’s Orchard Hills barracks in western Sydney. Police allege the rocket launchers were stolen in the five years since 2002 and sold for about $5000 each.
Mr Collins would not comment on reports the weapons had been sold to a member of the Sydney chapter of Australia’s biggest outlaw motorcycle gang, the Rebels.
Police also would not comment on whether any other weapons had been stolen, saying that officers were still searching the accused persons’ homes.
Mr Collins said police were determined to recover the missing rocket launchers.
“We have conducted a number of searches in areas where we had believed they might have been concealed in PVC piping. They were unsuccessful.”
The M-72 rocket launcher is a shoulder-fired weapon that can be easily carried by a soldier.
It is made to be used against armored vehicles and fortified positions such as bunkers.
Police said the missing rocket launchers had been taken into account in security preparations for the APEC summit in Sydney in September.

Questions must be asked:
Why are the agents of an alien, hostile cult, whose adherents will kill and die for Allah, a cult that wants us dead or converted; why are active members of ‘the ummah’ allowed to infiltrate the defense forces, the police, the security services in the Dar=al Kufar? ? Who allowed and encouraged Muhammedan agents to work in immigration departments, Islamist baggage handlers in airports, who aids and abets the enemy?
It is not too late. We need to know.

Why? Who? Multiculturalism, you know, the public policy for managing cultural diversity in a multi-ethnic society, stressing mutual respect and tolerance for cultural differences within a country. Welcome to the melting pot, we’re merely experiencing teething problems.

What a surprise that a Muslim will place allegiance to the Ummah higher then to the nation that he has emmigrated to.
When will we learn that any Muslim who considers himself to be a proper Muslim, CANNOT do anything but be loyal to Islam first and last. There is no point in blaming him, as a Muslim has no choice in the matter. The fault lies with us for allowing such a situation to develop in the first place.
When will we learn that multiculturalism can not survive if there are Muslims in the mix.
This obsession by our political and media “elites” with diversity and multiculturalism, is going to be the death of not just us but civilisation itself. This dogmatic attachment to multiculturalism, even when it is abundantly clear that it does not work, specially when Muslims are involved, indicates a mental illness.
It is far better we live apart from Muslims then continue with this multiculteralism experiment, that is leading us to a civil war within the West. It is hardly with mentioning, that civil wars in Europe are not powder puff affairs.
Sadly, I really do not see any way, other then the humane repatriation of Muslims back to Muslim lands. Else Europe is finished, and without Europe – the root of Western civilisation, America, Australia and the rest of the world are doomed.

I note none of the missiles have been recovered.
Suggestion to the judge who finally sentences these people:
Ten years. Ten years to start the day the last of the missiles is recovered. In the meantime, wait in jail until such time as the full sentence starts.
