No doubt you and your commenters read lauramansfield.com amongst others so with regard to the latest (twin) outbursts from OBL, I am keen to turn the debate in Oz to understanding and tackling this phase of salafi war.

Those in defence handle our military response so lets leave success in that theatre to them with our quiet support. The rest must tackle head-on the cultural war occurring here and in the countries of our english speaking allies. It is occurring elsewhere but we must make a concerted effort to tackle the habitat that we as Australians understand and wish to protect.

Councils, state govts, schools, hospitals and other institutions everywhere are receiving unpublicised approaches from home-grown and foreign salafists urging institutional compromise, change and capitulation to islam.

A few years ago, as you know, the media reported christmas decorations etc as offensive but the source of this proposition was never made public. Universities in NSW are now receiving quiet requests to modify their facilities, services and even their pedagogical methods to accommodate muslims but again the detail is neither publicised widely nor backed up by any evidence fpr change.

You are also well aware of the taxi, alcohol and guide dogs issue in melbourne, in Canada and the US, these are all tips of the jihadi iceberg. Cultural vandalism by the salafists occurs everywhere and includes subtle changes that many cannot notice immediately. One succesful advance has been to drop into some Australian minds the hazy belief that muslims are actually a race and thus can be victims of racism. You KNOW that has been somewhat successful here and it is taking a while to be dispelled.

Back to the latest spray from the rather ill-looking OBL. This (like the un-related but themtically connected 16 page spray from Ahmedinejad last year to Bush) is more evidence of AQ turning its page. We are entering the grip of the direct “appeal to the people” for purpose of encouraging them to ‘revolt’. It is naive, historically incorrect, reeks of 60′s marxism and reads like adam gadahn wrote it BUT all that doesn’t matter. It, like the salafists here, is appealing not to the govt but to everyday citizens, many who are young and have the very best intentions of not offending anyone.

We need very public and constant activity to combat this crap – letters to the editor, clarifications when we hear/see errors being stated on purpose, in blogs, in public, on television. Not meetings online where we all agree with each other, but action.

Whatever reaches us, whoever creeps out of the woodwork to damage the principles we hold, we must rebut it clearly and truthfully in the ears and eyes of the average person, not the tech-savvy nor the elected representatives. If the salafists want disinformation campaigns (and they do) lets give it to them. We must understand we are not going to change their minds so we must stop them from acting to change ours.

Note OBL’s words on humiliation and revenge – jihadists cant handle the first at all and are utterly preoccupied with doing the other.

So we must crank up our public campaigns of ridicule, parody and comedy – we like a good laugh here anyway so that cant be too hard? Salafis are laughing at us now because we are taking them seriously. But that is not really a catch-22 for us as they think because a) we dont give a shit about humiliation – its not sticks and stones; and b) we can laugh our heads off at them and still take them deadly seroiusly – thats our advantage.

Has he given any thought as to how long it will take to locate and bury the bodies and body parts of his “caravan”?
