New York Rep. Peter King, a prominent House Republican, said there are “too many mosques in this country” in a recent interview with Politico.
“There are too many people sympathetic to radical Islam,” King said. “We should be looking at them more carefully and finding out how we can infiltrate them.”
King is the ranking Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee. And as an outspoken advocate of strong anti-terror measures, he has been unafraid to ruffle some feathers in his drive to protect the homeland.
When asked to clarify his statement, King did not revise his answer, saying “I think there has been a lack of full cooperation from too many people in the Muslim community.” The interview was for a profile of the committee, as part of Politico’s Committee Insider Series.

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad requested to visit Ground Zero during an upcoming trip to New York. That request was rejected Wednesday. But a source tells Eyewitness News that the decision may not stop him.
A law enforcement source says the Iranian mission to the United Nations has informed the Secret Service that the Iranian president intends to visit Ground Zero Monday at 10 a.m.
The source says regardless of the NYPD’s rejection of the request for a Ground Zero tour, Iran’s president and his entourage will be accompanied by a Secret Service protective detail, a detail provided to all heads of state when they visit the United States.

Bollinger earlier said he would introduce Ahmadinejad by challenging him on issues such as the Iranian leader’s denial of the Holocaust, his vow to destroy Israel, support for terrorism and nuclear ambitions. Ahmadinejad also must “divide his time evenly” between a speech and questions, Bollinger said.
The university came under pressure during the day to cancel the Iranian leader’s appearance. “A man who is directing the maiming and killing of Americans troops should not be given an invitation to speak at an American university,” Senator John McCain, an Arizona Republican and presidential candidate, said in a statement.

Sept. 20 (Bloomberg) — Columbia University said it has not canceled a planned speech by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, contrary to a Bloomberg News report.
The Sept. 24 event will go forward as scheduled, said Robert Hornsby, the director of media relations at Columbia University in New York.

Iran has invited American director Oliver Stone to visit the country to discuss production of his documentary about President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after initially rejecting the project.
Ahmadinejad’s cultural adviser has suggested the Oscar-winning director visit Iran to see the different aspects of the country for himself, the Iranian Students News Agency reported yesterday.
“What they present from Iran and its culture in Western countries is far away from the reality and it will be interesting for Stone to see the reality with his own eyes and get to know Iran’s beauties and its kind nation,” said the cultural adviser.
