Domestic violence is an inherent problem in Turkey, and healthcare workers are doing little to combat the prevalence of wife beating, according to research published in the online open access journal, BMC Public Health. A survey of medical personnel reveals that a lack of training and a cultural acceptance of domestic violence may prevent victims from obtaining the support they desperately require. 173 medical staff from the emergency department of a Turkish university hospital responded to a questionnaire about domestic violence. 69.0% of the female and 84.7% of the male respondents declared that they agreed or partially agreed to at least one reason to justify physical violence.

Accepted grounds for intimate domestic violence included lying to or criticising the male and failure to care for children. Moreover, about three-quarters of the nurses and male physicians and over half of female physicians agreed that deceiving the husband justified physical punishment. Deceiving the husband is a taboo in Turkey and it is among the most important reasons for honour murders.*

Try to add to the discussion, don't try to sell snake oil, don't try to cover us with Islamic shrouds of kitman and taqiyya, don't bother with da'awa, (we've heard it before) don't spam us with long pieces of cut & paste, write in English, try to tell the truth, (we know that's hard for you because you are all pathological liars) but the truth will set you free, try it! One more thing: don't think you can post here under multiple monikers. You will quickly be disappeared! The same goes for trufers and conspiracy kooks: you get one chance, one time. Blow it out of your ass if you must; put your stupidity on display. But you won't be back, trust me on that. Take a deep breath before you post, try to make some sense, do not just vent, do not make a fool of yourself and if you prove us wrong you can earn 10 Islamic dollars for your piggy bank. Deal?

ISLAMSFORLOSERS December 14, 2007 at 3:36 pm: I can see “Dr. Ahmed” in a Turkish TV commercial now, saying “8 out of 10 medical field workers believe that beating your wife improves her health. You should try it”. No doubt such advice would be heeded.

But it’s not the Islamania-so say its apologists.
R_not December 14, 2007 at 4:40 pm: Nothing is done in any muslim country, but I read in ‘While Europe Slept’, or ‘Menace in Europe’ (I don’t remember which) that when muslim women found about the safe houses that they have there the muslim women filled them up. I don’t know if it is the same here in the USA – I have not read anything about what is happening. With what I read of muslims and their poor behavior in all countries they migrate to I would suspect that they continue their wife beating behavior. Why should they change? Their prophet and koran tells them it is a-ok.

When a (doubtful) ‘holy’ book, such as their koran, spells out for them that it is ok to kill and beat up women, just as long as they don’t do ‘shirk’ – there is absolutely no motivation for the ‘men’ in charge (the police and lawmakers) to do something to stop such a thing.
