'Honor killing has nothing to do with Islam'- right?

Remember Amina and Sarah

A manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).

 * Umdat al-Salik aka ‘Reliance of the traveller’

In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

*  Furthermore, if you kill your father, mother, sister or brother for leaving Islam, you are carrying out the will of Allah.

We can insure that honor killing has no place in our country – by insuring that muslims have no place in our country.

Neither islam nor muslims belong here.

“God will protect me. God is watching. I strangled my daughter.”

That’s what he said. Yet Muslim spokesmen in the mainstream media (both liberal and conservative) are routinely allowed to get away with bland denials that honor killing has anything to do with Islam.

In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

Why does this stipulation appear in a manual of Islamic law if this has nothing to do with Islam?

American officials and the mainstream media should be calling upon Muslims in America to institute transparent and inspectable programs that teach against the attitudes that lead to honor killing. Instead, they allow Muslim leaders to disclaim any responsibility. And that means that there will be more Chaudhry Rashids, and more Sandeela Kanwals.

“‘Honor’ Killing for God: Dad’s Sick ‘Confession,'” by Austin Fenner and Hasani Gittens for the New York Post, August 6 (thanks to JW):

A Muslim father accused of murdering his daughter in a so-called “honor killing” told cops God would look out for him, as he confessed to the grisly strangulation, authorities said yesterday.”God will protect me. God is watching,” Pakistani immigrant Chaudhry Rashid allegedly confessed to cops. “I strangled my daughter.”

At a preliminary hearing yesterday, Detective Mike Christian told a judge Rashid copped to killing his daughter on July 6 with a bungee cord because she had filed divorce papers and was having an extramarital affair.

Christian said Rashid was found sitting in his driveway smoking a cigarette when cops arrested him.

Rashid, 56, waddled into a Georgia courtroom yesterday in shackles to fight murder charges in the death of his only daughter, Sandeela Kanwal, 25, at his home in Jonesboro, an Atlanta suburb.

Kanwal, who worked at a Wal-Mart, wanted to escape her loveless six-year marriage to a Chicago man, Majid Latif, cops said.

Rashid went into a murderous rage after apparently growing tired of numerous arguments with his daughter, concerned that their clashing cultural values would reflect poorly on him and his family, said the detective….

Hanny Lightfoot-Klein, who has worked in the Middle East and Africa and written books on honor killings and genital mutilation in the Muslim world, had another view.

“They do not leave their customs behind when they cross borders, the customs come right with them,” she said.

“If any woman in the family in any way does something that dishonors the family, the whole family is dishonored, they are the laughingstock of the whole community, because they ‘don’t know how to control their women.’

“And the only way this blight on their honor can be eradicated is to kill the one who has committed the crime.”

Pakistan: girl married at 9, gunned down by parents and accomplices in front of police at 17

September 6, 2008

Her crime? Trying to annul her marriage. If “honor killings” have “nothing to do with Islam” (so the argument goes, including below) marrying female children at age 9 is wholly based on the example of Islam’s prophet. At any rate, that this sort of thing keeps happening in Pakistan — that is, “Land of the Pure, i.e., land of Muslims — is telling enough. “Married at 9, slain by parents at 17,” by Bruce Loudon in Islamabad for News.com, September 6:

DESPAIR among human rights workers in Pakistan over a rash of so-called “honour killings” intensified yesterday when it was disclosed that a girl forced into marriage with a 45-year-old man at the age of nine had been killed by her parents because she asked for an annulment.

The girl, 17, who had been fighting a lonely but successful legal battle, was coming out of court in the Punjabi city of Sahiwal after being granted the annulment by a judge when she was surrounded by a group of men and shot in view of police.

Based on such a culture, how can anyone doubt Pakistan’s unswerving loyalty to U.S. interests?!

The death of Saira Nusrat Bibi has added further to concerns among human rights campaigners already outraged over the case of five women – among them three teenage schoolgirls – buried alive in the province of Baluchistan because they wanted to marry men of their choice in defiance of the wishes of tribal leaders.

The Baluchistan case was worsened by an attempt by a member of the country’s national parliament, senator Israr Ullah Zehri, to defend it, telling colleagues that “these are centuries-old traditions and I will continue to defend them”, The Weekend Australian reports.

Members of the religious Jamaat-e-Islami party rounded on Senator Zehi, declaring: “We condemn this barbaric act. This is against Islam, against humanity and against civilised culture.”

Then do something about it.

Yesterday, the Government bowed to pressure and ordered an inquiry into the killings.

Details that have emerged from the village of Baba Kot in Baluchistan indicate that the three girls — aged between 16 and 18 – and two of their elderly relatives were “shot at” before being buried alive.

“When the fuming elders of the Umrani tribe came to know about the intentions of these girls, they picked them up from their homes along with two of their elderly relatives,” one account said.

“The crying girls were pushed into official cars and driven to a deserted area. There they were pushed out of the cars, made to stand in a queue, and volleys of shots fired at them. As the bleeding girls fell to the sand, the tribesmen dragged them into a nearby ditch and levelled it with earth and stones.

“As the two shocked elderly women tried to rescue the hapless girls, they too were gunned down and buried in the same manner. The killers after burying these women returned to their tribe like conquerors without any action taken against them.”

  1. Thanks for the details. I have written many times that sharia law doesn’t care if honor killings happen that is why in – EVERY, SINGLE, MUSLIM COUNTRY – where sharia law exists, or when the muslims have enough numbers in our countries since they live in groups that honor killings happen.

I am finding that this, and other unpleasant facts, about islam are now countered with this, ‘It has no basis in islam, or in the koran’ (or a similar phrase)

Be careful when muslims refute things – it is just a form of taqiyya/kithman.

  2. Muslims will deny it all, as if words can change reality. Kinda reminds me of 8 year old bullies who tell other kids,”If you want me to hit you say ‘no,’ if you don’t want me to hit you say ‘yes’. They always hit their victims, but are never accountable for their actions because they’ll play word games.

  3. I’m beginning to think the Koran is indeed a wonderous book-when a believer reads it the words say one thing but when an infidel reads it the words magically move around and say something totally different. This must account for the different interpretations where a Koranist says the Koran preaches peace while we say it demands war.

Joe Grey>> kinda like those books where you chose the ending, isn’t it?

  5. ISLAMSFORLOSERS and Joe Grey –

Abrogration is the view that wherever there is an apparent contradiction in the Koran, the bit that was written last takes precedence. One would naturally ask then, if the later verse takes precedence, why keep the earlier one?

To suit the dualistic nature of islam.
    See here: http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Printable.asp?ID=26769

Money quote from that link: “But in fact, since the Koran is considered by Muslims to be the perfect word of Allah, both verses are sacred and true. The later verse is “better,” but the earlier verse cannot be wrong since Allah is perfect. This is the foundation of dualism. Both verses are “right.” Both sides of the contradiction are true in dualistic logic. The circumstances govern which verse is used.”

Got that? The circumstances govern which verse is used. Incredibly convenient – no? It fits the excuse pattern used by their prophet (uswa hasana al insan al kamil – the perfect example for all mankind for time) spit.

  6. Oh this is sunni orthodoxy, it’s not real islam, shiite muslims will take care of this when the Kafir are eliminated… Sarc off…
I’m finding more often than not that when muslims deny certain devilish aspects of there religion it’s not taqiyya but an in depth reluctance to question it…

  7. ISLAMO..good point. It’s kinda like listening to Obama. Moral relativism has no right or wrong

  8. after reading a bit here and there i start to understand more about the koran..
it’s as evil as the bible!
both cause pain and discrimination of the ‘lesser’ people 🙁

  9. mm,

sure thing: Christians kill their daughters all the time because its written in the bible, right?
Do they also do clit-cutting and stone women to death and throw homosexuals off tall buildings because the bible commands it? And do they also have an open ended command from allah to kill the unbelievers until the whole world submits to Christianity?
