Anger at Europe’s far right ‘anti-Islam’ conference

* Note: anything and anyone anti-Islamofascit is immediately smeared as ‘far-right’ or ‘racist’

A German far right group has stirred Muslim anger worldwide by holding a three-day “Anti-Islamisation Conference” to protest against the construction of mosques and Muslim immigration.

Prominent members of Europe’s far right, including French “Front National” leader Jean-Marie le Pen and Belgian far-right politician Filip Dewinter, have said they will attend the meeting in Cologne which is aimed at forging a European alliance against “Islamisation.”

The conference will include a rally in the centre of Cologne tomorrow which police say could lead to clashes with left-wing groups that plan a counter-demonstration. Trade unions, churches and other groups have also announced plans to protest against the conference.

The conference organiser is a local protest group called “Pro-Cologne” which campaigned against the city’s recent decision to allow the construction of a large new mosque with two 55-metre tall minarets. Around 330,000 immigrants live in Cologne, about a third of the city’s population.

“Mosques are shooting out of the ground like mushrooms, the muezzin call and headscarves are flooding our streets,” Pro-Cologne said on its website. It said 150 “politicians and publicists” from all over Europe and 1,500 other participants will attend the conference at which it plans to launch a petition “against the Islamisation of our cities”.

The meeting has drawn fierce criticism from German politicians and city leaders in Cologne.

The premier of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Juergen Ruettgers, said: “Those who abuse the cosmopolitan and democratic city of Cologne as a meeting place for right-wing radicals are against tolerance, against reconciliation, against humanity.”

Iran has appealed to France, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, to block the conference and complained that it reflects a “growth of anti-Islamic sentiments in Europe.”

The Council of Muslims in Germany called the conference “an unparalleled abuse of freedom of opinion” that would heighten xenophobia.

German lawmakers, Turkish group slam anti-Islam rally

* Al Reuters conveniently forgets to name any ‘lawmakers’  who slam the anti-Islam rally…
German politicians and a Turkish group appealed for tolerance on Wednesday and condemned an anti-Islamic congress, planned by a nationalist group in the western city of Cologne.
The Pro-Cologne group fiercely opposes a decision by the city of Cologne to allow the construction of a new mosque which will include a dome and minarets.

“It is high time that people in Germany raise their voices to support dialogue and peaceful coexistence and take a stand against injustice, racism and extremism,” Rafet Ozturk, of the DITIB Turkish-Islamic Union in a statement. (Try that s#*t in Turkey, Ozturk. Go out and demonstrate for ‘tolerance’ for a Christian church or a synagogue and see what happens!/ed)

Leftist groups are planning counter-protests on Saturday and the Christian-Muslim Peace Initiative said it would put up 500 placards around Cologne with the slogan “dialogue and tolerance instead of aggression and fear!”. (Most people live in fear of Muhammedan aggression and fear of terrorism/ed)

“The events in Cologne linked to the planned mosque — of which right-wing populists’ activities are unfortunately a part — will be watched across Germany and Europe,” said Ruprecht Polenz, head of parliament’s foreign policy committee and a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives.

The congress has also sparked anger in Islamic countries.

Earlier this month, Iran called on the French presidency of the European Union to stop the congress and summoned the French charge d’affaires in Tehran to the Foreign Ministry’s human rights department, according to the IRNA agency. (Looks like the Germans are really waiting for the Mullah’s to tell them which way the wind blows..)

Jean-Marie Le Pen, leader of France’s National Front, Austrian far-right Freedom Party leader Heinz-Christian Strache and members of Belgium’s Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) party are due at the congress on Saturday, says Pro-Cologne’s website. Media have reported between 1,000 and 1,500 people are expected to join the Pro-Cologne march on Saturday. (40.000 Muhammadans have threatened a violent counter-protest, which this report conveniently omits/ed)

About 3.2 million Muslims live in Germany, more than half of whom are of Turkish origin.
