Morocco shuts down 60 Koran schools advocating child marriage

*  How can it be wrong? The prophet did it, and every good Muslim is to emulate Muhammad. This cleric was simply teaching the correct Islam:

Sahih Bukhari Volume 7, Book 62, Number 88
Narrated ‘Ursa:
The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with ‘Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).

Authorities in Morocco have shut down around 60 Koranic schools belonging to a Muslim theologian who argues that girls as young as nine can marry, officials said today.

The authorities also plan to close down the Internet site on which Sheikh Mohamed Ben Abderrahman Al-Maghraoui decreed earlier this month that the marriage of nine-year-old girls is allowed by Islam.

The sheikh said his decree was based on the fact that the Prophet Mohammed consummated his marriage to his favourite wife when she was that age.

Lawyers, the media, and finally Muslim scholars rounded on Maghraoui for effectively seeking to legalise pedophilia.

The authorities finally took action yesterday, shutting down his headquarters in Marrakesh and dozens of his small Koranic schools dotted around the country.

“The Internet site ‘’ is going to be closed, while the headquarters of the Mohamed Maghraoui association in Marrakesh and his ‘Koranic Houses’ have already been closed,” a security official said.

Sheikh Maghraoui’s “fatwa” or religious decree was condemned on Sunday by Morocco’s top body of Islamic scholars.

The High Council of Ulemas, which is presided over by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, labelled the sheikh an “agitator” and denounced his “utilisation of religion to legitimise the marriage of nine-year-old girls”.

Rabat-based lawyer Mourad Bekkouri filed a complaint against Maghraoui and his fatwa earlier this month in which he said the decree damaged children’s rights by increasing the risk of rape.

He said the theologian is undermining Islam and its followers and that he had requested the state prosecutor to speed up the case.

  1. Last year the BBC published a report that condom use in India was down because the condoms. mainly supplied by the west. were too large, and the author suggested that condoms be made in India to a more appropriate size. That fully explains the muzzies desire to marry 9 year olds, they actually fit.

    Cleric accused of sexual assault

Some 150 school-age girls and their relatives staged a protest Friday at an Islamicboarding school in Surabaya, demanding justice against a senior cleric for allegedly sexually abusing 25 female students.

Protesters thronged the school’s compound from 8:30 a.m., preventing local Muslims from performing Friday prayers at the school’s Nurullah grand mosque. The mosque was sealed off two months ago at the request of residents of Kedung Rukem IV subdistrict, south of the city, following an uproar over a sexual harassment case centered on Kyai As’ad Syukur Fauzanni.

Friday’s demonstration was staged after students’ relatives learned the mosque would be reopened with a fast-breaking gathering and the distribution of Idul Fitri gifts to students.

“This mosque must be closed permanently. No one should be allowed to pray in an obscenely infected mosque where several children were raped. The indecent cleric must be punished harshly,” one protester shouted.

Dozens of riot police were on guard outside the mosque.

Roni, a local resident, said the protesters would not allow the mosque to be reopened while a police investigation into the claims of rape was not yet started.

The protesters dispersed after a dialogue with police.

Maisaroh (not her real name), an 11-year-old student, said she had been fondled and kissed by As’ad on several occasions during her two years at the boarding school.

“I was embraced tightly and kissed, and it happened many times between July 2007 and March 2008,” she told The Jakarta Post.

She said she only told her parents after learning that other students had also been sexually assaulted by As’ad, a highly respected cleric. In June this year, the victims’ parents filed a complaint with the police.

The police declined to comment on the case, which is being closely monitored by the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).

As’ad has been declared a suspect in the case, and is currently being held at Medaeng Prison. He has reportedly threatened to file a lawsuit against the KPAI, which accuses him of raping his students.

“Our father will file a lawsuit against the KPAI, following its recent letter of protest accusing him of abusing the students’ human rights,” said Dedik Oktanto, As’ad’s son-in-law.

As’ad is the owner of the boarding school and chairman of the Ya Ibad Foundation, which runs the school.
