But then Mr. and Mrs. Peasant start remodeling the hovel, adding a rec room and indoor plumbing, replacing the emaciated old nag with a Honda Civic and driving to the mall in it, and next thing you know, instead of just having an extra yard of mead every Boxing Day at the local tavern and adding a couple more pustules to the escutcheon with the local trollop, they begin taking vacations in Florida. When it was just medieval dukes swanking about like that, the planet worked fine: That was “sustainable” consumerism. But now the masses want in. A boat carrying more than 70 suspected asylum seekers has been intercepted by the Australian navy off Christmas Island.
That should cost us at least another $2 million. And isn’t this Kevin Rudd’s Siev X:
Meanwhile, there are growing fears for the safety of 59 asylum seekers whose boat foundered and sank of the eastern Indonesian island of Sumbawa last week.
Even before this, at least 25 asylum seekers have died trying to get here since Kevin Rudd made out laws against illegal immigrants “kinder”.
So where is the outrage over how we seem to have lured yet more asylum seekers to their deaths? Where, this time,the conspiracy theories, senate hearings, protests and even plays accusing the Government of murder?

A PLAN to bring 50,000 Filipino workers to South Australia over the next 10 years has been put on hold until after the global financial crisis.

Well – perhaps Rudd is planning to replace them with muzzies. The Fillipinos work hard, fought with us in the last war – what have the muzzies done again?????
My concern was those Filipinos who are members of or sympathetic to MILF, & who might import their religion & demand that Oz accommodates their “need” for mosques, “prayer rooms” and all the rest. Non-muslim Filipinos – no problem.
And the uk government want total control ……

Medvedev Shows Off Sample Coin of New ‘World Currency’ at G-8
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev illustrated his call for a supranational currency to replace the dollar by pulling from his pocket a sample coin of a “united future world currency.”
“Here it is,” Medvedev told reporters today in L’Aquila, Italy, after a summit of the Group of Eight nations. “You can see it and touch it.”
The coin, which bears the words “unity in diversity,” was minted in Belgium and presented to the heads of G-8 delegations, Medvedev said.
The question of a supranational currency “concerns everyone now, even the mints,” Medvedev said. The test coin “means they’re getting ready. I think it’s a good sign that we understand how interdependent we are.”
Medvedev has repeatedly called for creating a mix of regional reserve currencies as part of the drive to address the global financial crisis, while questioning the U.S. dollar’s future as a global reserve currency. Russia’s proposals for the G-20 meeting in London in April included the creation of a supranational currency.
