Egypt: The Plight of the Christian Copts

Egypt’s Coptic Christians call for general strike on September 11 to protest persecution

Traditional Islamic law for dhimmis forbids them to build new churches. Christians in Egypt still suffer from a cultural hangover of that law. “Coptic Christians in Egypt Call for Strike to Protest Mistreatment,” by Mary Abdelmassih for AINA, September 6 (thanks to JW):

(AINA) — In the last week of July a Coptic rights movement dubbed “Copts for Egypt,” using the social network Facebook as platform, called upon all Copts in Egypt to stage a general strike on September 11, which coincides with the Coptic New Year.

In its communiqué, which first appeared on the Facebook site, the group stated the action is meant to express the resentment of all Copts over the Egypt’s position on the repeated attacks on the homes and property of Copts because some of them have been used for religious observance.

The group members, wanting to remain anonymous, describe themselves as “Egyptians, pained by the divisions among the Egyptian rows, and being the ‘the voice of the voiceless” (the oppressed). Members of the group are Muslims and Christians.”

The “Copts for Egypt” movement has asked Copts participating in the strike to stay at home all day on September 11, and if they leave their homes for any reason wear black.

The strike centers around the Copts’ demands for the Egyptian government to ratify the unified law for building houses of worship, and to abolish the unofficial “reconciliation sessions,” which takes place despite the presence of criminal suspicion, and to bring the perpetrators in sectarian strife to justice.

Many political analysts and human rights organizations argue that the tension between the Muslim and Coptic Egyptian communities is caused primarily by the issue of Christian places of worship….

Too small? Click here This is a satirical website. None of what you read here has anything to do with Islam, because Islam is a Religion of Peace. Everybody knows that good Muslims never do the things they do, (because Allah does it for them, Quran 8:12) and we know that only our misperceptions, ignorance and stereotyping of Islam makes Muslims chop off heads, kill and rape women and children, bomb subways, buses, nightclubs and fly jets into buildings. If it wasn't for the media and da Jooozzz, we wouldn't even know its happening. We welcome open, honest, thoughtful, and vigorous discussion in the comments threads, so do yourself a favour and don't accuse us of being 'haters' because we are loving, tolerant people. Don't curse us, don't threaten us with death or hellfire, and don't accuse us of being "just like the terrorists" because we don't do to Muslims what they do to us or to themselves. Yes, we know that only idiots oppose Islam and sensible people submit, but  you should know that we are ignorant bigots, hypocrites and Islamophobes, and we prefer to remain that way... But since you are forcing yourselves (and your abhorrent belief-system on us) we will defend ourselves, because we must. Avoid tu quoque and ad hominem attacks. Don't bother with circular reasoning either, we been there, done it.  If you annoy us, you will be banned and your posts summarily deleted. Try to add to the discussion, don't try to sell snake oil, don't try to cover us with Islamic shrouds of kitman and taqiyya, don't bother with da'awa, (we've heard it before) don't spam us with long pieces of cut & paste, write in English, try to tell the truth, (we know that's hard for you because you are all pathological liars) but the truth will set you free, try it! One more thing: don't think you can post here under multiple monikers. You will quickly be disappeared! The same goes for trufers and conspiracy kooks: you get one chance, one time. Blow it out of your ass if you must; put your stupidity on display. But you won't be back, trust me on that. Take a deep breath before you post, try to make some sense, do not just vent, do not make a fool of yourself and if you prove us wrong you can earn 10 Islamic dollars for your piggy bank. Deal?

It actually a combination of radicals making troubles by targetting Copts but actually it has a lot more to do with money.

Copts, having been the longest term residents of modern Egypt and during times of foreign occupation were given wealth and some privilage, own in the most expensive part of towns, such as the old-district of central Cairo.

So they are being targetted to move them out so that commercial development takes over. It is an old scam, well known and has taken on a dimension common – against minorities. Brazillians do it against Indians for wood, Indonesians do it for wood, Israelis do it in Al Qods/Jerusalem to “own the old city” and Egyptians are doing it against the Cops to get that central city land.

They did it in fact over the Swine Flu with the obviously stupid claim that they need to cull the pigs in Cairo and so the Government decided to move them to an outside city district and the land was confiscated and now a Five Star Hotel is being built in the area that was bulldozed overnight.

Nothing really to do with religion, just pick on the minority for commercial purposes – common but of course unjust and ugly.

Never is with Solkhar / DHH, but why do the Moroccan authorities
pick on Moroccan Christians, if it is nothing to do with religion?

Spin it, Solkhar!!

Nothing really to do with religion, just the good old Islamic way to expropriate the dhimmies completely…
