The documented evidence cited in the BBC clearly shows that unlike US military “chaplains”, Rabbis are now trained with weapons and are embedded with the front line troops since Gaza. These are confirmed with direct interviews with serving soldiers and a retired General, all whom considered it wrong, it affected the actions of the soldiers and it encouraged brutality. That also is confirmed by the accussations and evidence that is mounting about the handling of that event.

In addition, the increased presence of theologically based efforts within the IDF will only encourage a religious zeal that has been in the forfront of the criticism of Muslim terrorists and insurgents.

But mostly, it puts into doubt and to question the impartiality and level of obedience of the IDF in matters dealing with the Occupied Palestinian Territories as ultr-orthodox rabbis will appose the eventual evacuation and dismantling of settlements and will treat the Arab/Muslim residents as being invaders on what they believe to be goly Israeli land.

The rise of the percentage of “religious” Jews in the IDF, whether from the settlements or not, is due to the growing number of left wingers dodging IDF service. The odds are there’s probably something similar going on in a lot of militaries, including in the US. If the left has a problem with this, perhaps their kids should serve instead of going backpacking in India.

In July of this year, the Guardian Newspaper in the UK, wrote a serious item of concern called:

Today, the BBC has shown in full the very disturbing study that was even at times blocked by IDF personnel but still made with effort.

The study, in two parts, the first one “The rise of Israel’s military rabbis” and the second part “God’s army? – Military rabbis are changing the face of the Israeli army. ” (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/2).

I just watched the programme and it is very disturbing. There has obviously been a concerted effort to put settler youth into the Army and many of the officer corp are also from this community. Rabbis are no longer available at base but are imbedded with the soldiers and as they are considered “officers” and have weapons training, they are able to lead units in battle.

Examples of written material that was distributed to soldiers was also shown, claiming the soldiers are the same holy warriors of ancient Israel and that the Palestinians are the evil Philistines and killing them is not a sin.

A former general was interviewed and he condemned the move as the strength of the IDF’s morale superiority has always been its secularism and stated the one factor that must not be forgotten. If you put religion into the IDF then they automatically become “jihadists”.

What is clear is this, the blog-owner believes that the Occupied West Bank Palestinian authorities are really God’s given land for the Jews and yet he condemns constantly the “jihad” concept and the claims that God gives these islamists the right to fight and kill and yet the same concept exists within elements of the IDF of which the blog-owner supports.
