Sydney: Tiny Minority of Extremists Found Guilty

Yet another reason to worry that violent extremism is too compatible with Islam – as is preached by one strand of the Muslim community:

FIVE Sydney men have been found guilty of terrorism offences after one of the longest criminal trials in Australian history.
Mohamed Ali Elomar, 44, Khaled Cheikho, 36, his nephew Moustafa Cheikho, 32, Abdul Rakib Hasan, 40, and Mohammed Omar Jamal, 25, were today convicted of doing an act in preparation for a terrorist act…
And it can now be revealed that Mirshad Mulahalilovic, 33, and Khaled Sharrouf, 28, pleaded guilty last year to various terrorism offences before they were due to stand trial with their five co-accused and were sentenced to jail terms…

Crown prosecutor Richard Maidment SC admitted it was a circumstantial case in his closing address to the jury… But the jury was convinced that there was sufficient evidence that the men were involved in a conspiracy to prepare for a terrorist act that according to authorities, was intended to create “maximum damage”.
The group were, according to the Crown, motivated by “a perception that the participation of Australia in the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan … were acts of aggression against the wider Muslim community”…
It was alleged that the men had sought to obtain, in significant amounts, chemicals for the purpose of making explosive devices. It was also alleged that they had attended paramilitary training camps together, and were in possession of extremist material including a document titled “The Terrorist Handbook”.
It’s all very well for us all to keep stressing that this kind of thing is just the work of a minority of Muslims. But this minority, which seems rather too numerous, can cause all Muslims dreadful harm with just one single bomb, and more needs to be done not just to repudiate this fringe, but to whip them out of every mosque in the land.
Given recent controversies I should add what should not need saying: that any comments by readers below express no one’s opinions but their own.

This is a satirical website. None of what you read here has anything to do with Islam, because Islam is a Religion of Peace. Everybody knows that good Muslims never do the things they do, (because Allah does it for them, Quran 8:12) and we know that only our misperceptions, ignorance and stereotyping of Islam makes Muslims chop off heads, kill and rape women and children, bomb subways, buses, nightclubs and fly jets into buildings. If it wasn't for the media and da Jooozzz, we wouldn't even know its happening.
We welcome open, honest, thoughtful, and vigorous discussion in the comments threads, so do yourself a favour and don't accuse us of being 'haters' because we are loving, tolerant people. Don't curse us, don't threaten us with death or hellfire, and don't accuse us of being "just like the terrorists" because we don't do to Muslims what they do to us or to themselves. Yes, we know that only idiots oppose Islam and sensible people submit, but you should know that we are ignorant bigots, hypocrites and Islamophobes, and we prefer to remain that way...
But since you are forcing yourselves (and your abhorrent belief-system on us) we will defend ourselves, because we must. Avoid tu quoque and ad hominem attacks. Don't bother with circular reasoning either, we been there, done it. If you annoy us, you will be banned and your posts summarily deleted.
Try to add to the discussion, don't try to sell snake oil, don't try to cover us with Islamic shrouds of kitman and taqiyya, don't bother with da'awa, (we've heard it before) don't spam us with long pieces of cut & paste, write in English, try to tell the truth,
(we know that's hard for you because you are all pathological liars) but the truth will set you free, try it!
One more thing: don't think you can post here under multiple monikers. You will quickly be disappeared! The same goes for
trufers and conspiracy kooks: you get one chance, one time. Blow it out of your ass if you must; put your stupidity on display.
But you won't be back, trust me on that.
Take a deep breath before you post, try to make some sense, do not just vent, do not make a fool of yourself and if you prove us wrong you can earn 10 Islamic dollars for your piggy bank. Deal?

The “moderate majority” must start speaking out against the political islamists before they become the enemy.
I heard on the radio a relative of one of these Jihadist vermin threatening even more terrorism because of this trial. Bring it on scum, bring it on and see what kind of response you’ll get.
The brother of one of the convicted men said the verdicts would spell trouble for Australia.
“If you really go through the case and the words in the brief, you’ll know it’s bullshit,” he said.
“If they think this will stop terrorism, imprisoning these people, I don’t think it will stop terrorism.
“I think it will increase the threat on Australia.”
He indicated he expected a reaction when “the people overseas, when they see this”.>

A classic feedback loop – any attempt to combat muslim terrorism
is met with an implied threat of more mulsim terrorism, while any
muslim terror act provokes “fears of a backlash” against the very
muslims that imply that anti-terror cases will resul in terrorism.

A true classic: “fighting crime will cause more crime”…

Extremist literature and “instructional DVDs” about building homemade bombs and suicide bomber’s belts found in their homes showed the men had violent intent, crown prosecutor Richard Maidment SC said.

After a 10-month trial in a purpose-built court in Parramatta and following four-and-a-half weeks of deliberations, a jury returned with its unanimous verdicts on Friday.
The men, aged 44 to 25, were each found guilty of a charge of conspiring to commit an act, or acts, in preparation for a terrorist act between July 2004 and November 2005.

I’m sure the instructions to the jury would have included nonsense along the lines of … don’t allow negative perceptions of islam in the media to influence your decision – this is nothing to do with islam …

I look forward to seeing thousands of moderate muslims marching through Sydney protesting against the actions of these misunderstanders of the RoP.
It is only a matter of time before there is an attack on Australian soil. A former muslim said in the media recently that there are muslim training camps happening in the NZ bush…the officials rubbished this idea.
