Muslim scholar Bassam Tibi in “War and Peace in Islam”:
At its core, Islam is a religious mission to all humanity. Muslims are religiously obliged to disseminate the Islamic faith throughout the world. “We have sent you forth to all mankind” (Q. 34:28).
If non-Muslims submit to conversion or subjugation, this call (da’wa) can be pursued peacefully. If they do not, Muslims are obliged to wage war against them. In Islam, peace requires that non-Muslims submit to the call of Islam, either by converting or by accepting the status of a religious minority (dhimmi) and paying the imposed poll tax, jizya. World peace, the final stage of the da’wa, is reached only with the conversion or submission of all mankind to Islam…Muslims believe that expansion through war is not aggression but a fulfillment of the Qur’anic command to spread Islam as a way to peace. The resort to force to disseminate Islam is not war (harb), a word that is used only to describe the use of force by non-Muslims. Islamic wars are not hurub (the plural of harb) but rather futuhat, acts of “opening” the world to Islam and expressing Islamic jihad. Relations between dar al-Islam, the home of peace, and dar al-harb, the world of unbelievers, nevertheless take place in a state of war, according to the Qur’an and to the authoritative commentaries of Islamic jurists. Unbelievers who stand in the way, creating obstacles for the da’wa, are blamed for this state of war, for the da’wa can be pursued peacefully if others submit to it.
In other words, those who resist Islam cause wars and are responsible for them. Only when Muslim power is weak is ‘temporary truce’ (hudna) allowed (Islamic jurists differ on the definition of ‘temporary’).
“The Qur’anic Concept of War”, by Pakistani Brigadier S.K. Malik, it says
(in the preface):
“But in Islam war is waged to establish supremacy of Allah only when every other argument has failed to convince those who reject His Will and work against the very purpose of the creation of mankind.”
Update: Tariq Ramadan springs into action, blames “fear”
from the Guardian (of Islamic terrorists)
The Swiss have voted not against towers, but Muslims. Across Europe, we must stand up to the flame-fanning populists. (Frere Tariq finds them “scary”) There are only four minarets in Switzerland, so why is it that it is there that this initiative has been launched?
Simple: Mohammedan’s don’t allow churches or synagogues or temples in their countries. Why should we? from the Guardian (of Islamic terrorists)
The enlightened progressives at Harry’s Place find this great news “depressing” and call on their readers to “defend-religious-freedom-in-switzerland”- me thinks they should start with once great Britain…..

A Mohammedan demonstrator wears a minaret made from paper on his head to protest against the results of a vote in Switzerland at the Helvetiaplatz square in Zurich November 29, 2009.

“Opposing Islam Causes Terrorism”
For the soldiers of Allah take their religion seriously. These people are not in Switzerland to become Swiss, they came to make Switzerland Islamic. They follow their religious commands, like ” fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. (8:39)
“Unbelief is worse than slaughter”
Qur’an 2:191: “And slay them wherever you catch them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out; for persecution is worse than slaughter…” and cites various scholars as explaining the verse to mean that “the state of Kufr [unbelief] or Shirk [idolatry] is worse than the act of killing and worse for the believer than being killed. Therefore, preserving life, or any of the other four essentials at the expense of losing the Deen [religion], is a violation of Allah’s Sharia’ah.” In other words, unbelief is worse than killing, thus Muslims should not hesitate to kill unbelieving noncombatants. THE WEST IS READY.
Great news. At last a backlash against the growing Muslim population despite threats of economic boycotts.
Lets hope the rest of Europe is watching and now see that it can be done.
It seems to have struck a nerve in Langenthal, a small town near Bern where Muslims plan to put up a minaret next to their prayer room in a bleak former paint factory.
“If we give them a minaret, they’ll have us all wearing burqas,” said Julia Werner, a local housewife. “Before you know it, we’ll have sharia law and women being stoned to death in our streets. We won’t be Swiss any more.”
Politicians will not let the people have a say on the EU, or on the Lisbon treaty.
Politicians will not let us have a say on AGWCC, but are intent on taxing the hell out of us.
Politicians will not let us have a say on the Islamisation of Europe.
Politicians have become an enemy of the people.
If Switzerland had become a part of the EU, they would not have the freedom to have such a referendum. The EU would dictate what they could do, or even what they were allowed to think.
The Swiss need to remember the freedoms they have, are the freedoms that brave Swiss fought for. They are the custodians of that freedom, to pass on to their descendents, and not its owners.
A poster by the name of Adrian had enough of the multicultural befuddlement that drives “Harry’s Place”
Sorry, even though this may be construed by some as an attack upon religious freedom it is, after all, a ban on only the construction of minarets. If 57% of the vote was for the ban, it was democratic.
It was not a ban forbidding the construction of mosques, nor was it a ban on Muslims being able to conduct their religion.
It was a ban on minarets – which would change the skyline of many cantons. I am sure in the future another vote could be held.
But we do have a problem in Britain and other European countries, where funding for large mosques often does not come from Muslim communities but from donations from places like Saudi Arabia.
And remember that Saudi Arabia not only has NO churches or synagogues, it bans the import of bibles, it imprisons people for holding Christian services and sentences people to death for the impossible crime of witchcraft.
This minaret ban, compared to the plans by Saudi Arabia to build ever larger and ever-more impressive mosques beyond its territory is chicken feed compared to many Muslim countries’ behaviour.
Saudi Arabia is run by a tribe of fanatical retrogressive despots who practice a form of Islam that caused its founder to be driven out of Medina for his fanaticism.
But a so-called “moderate” Muslim nation like Malaysia has for the past few years engaging in a policy of destroying Hindu temples, some of which are more than 100 years old as well as Christian churches.
In Malaysia, the main excuses given to deatroy such tmeples is that the bildings did not have planning permission. When you deal with temples that were built more than 40 years before Malaysia had its merdeka (independence), such claims are spurious.
The demolition of such temples is a real example of an attack upon religious freedom, along with the refusal of the Malaysian sharia courts to allow Muslims to leave Islam.
Prince Charles pressured the Qatari* royal family to stop building a building complex “visually” ruining the area of Chelsea Barracks. What is the difference?
Minarets existed to call the faithful to prayer, and thus for many people they do not just represent the scar upon a skyline (as Oriana Fallaci saw them) but potentially a “right” to have calls to prayer made by loudspeakers from these towers. That is their sole practical purpose.
And as has been shown from Oxford and also Sofia in Bulgaria, calls to prayer cause great resentments to non-Muslims who feel that they really have had their neighbourhoods colonised.
This is up to the Swiss, not us.
If they were advocating stopping Muslims from worshipping, or stopping them from building new places of worship, I would join you in condemnation.
As far as I can see, this may irritate Swiss Muslims, and I am sure the most active condemnation will come from Tariq Ramadan’s truly fanatical brother, Hani. Hani Ramadan, who supports the notion of Muslim Brotherhood infiltration by a vanguard followed by a colonisation, openly argues for sharia punishments, including the stoning of women.
Hani Ramadan’s demands for an uncompromising interpretation of Islam has probably, more than any other factor, pushed the Swiss people into fearing the spread of Islam. Hani Ramadan’s open stridency makes Hizb ut-Tahrir seem tolerant.
* Qatar only gave permission in 2006 for the first church to be built in more than a century within its borders.

So now we wait for the fatwa that makes cuckoo clocks haraam (unless the cuckoo has been properly slaughtered, I guess).
Spot on Sheil yer Mami
It is the height of hypocrisy fom the Islamists that they bleat and wail about not being able to build a minaret, but dont say anything about us anyone not being to build even a church in Saudi Arabia, or many other despotic Islamic dump that abound across this earth.
If the Saudis want to threaten economic sanctions, then call their bluff and tell them to stick their money.
Meanwhile that odious creep Ekmeledi Ishanoglu funded bythe Saudis is mounting another challenge to our freedoms in the UN where his venal and backward organisation called the OIC holds a voting block sway of 57.
The Malaysians are still knocking down Hindu temples and curbing the freedoms of other religions. The Egyptians are killing the Copts and the Turks are mounting a new campaign against the Christians…etc etc
…and these ignorant mongrels complain about feeling threatened because they cant build a minaret
Give me abreak
It is sad that Malaysia – a truly multi racial community – about 30 years ago is today in the depths of depravity. It ranks highly in the World Corruption Index; the World Transparency Report and now takes its place in the halls of religious injustice. It is said that thousands of intellectuals have migrated out of the country and that children who go overseas to study do not return home. They have found sanity and a better way of life in the country that gave them the opportunity for Higher Education without Questions for Exams not being given out in advance to the ‘Boers’ of Malaysia and replies to questions being marked with a 20% margin as a very high pass mark. Thus hundreds of Graduates churned out by dubious Colleges and Universities with Dubious Lecturers holdings Msc and Phd from dubious Universities unheard of by other intellectuals – are not walking the strets as no one wants to employ them. It looks as though even the Government does not want to employ these ‘Boer’ descendants.
It is obvious that the action taken by Switzerland and lately by France will reverberate throughout Europe as more and more non Muslims are brutalised in other parts of the World.
Yes. If you cannot build a church or temple in Muslim lands why should special rights be given for Muslims in other lands of the ‘Free’. Perhaps the dayshave come for the Muslims to return to their lands of origin where they could enjoy a fruitful and happy Islamic way of life without burdening their religion on others.
exactly! hey – it’s abig planet!
Exactly Diaspora, like deserves like.
