Gash does not dispute that the cartoon is Islamophobic; but he believes that it is justified because it is based upon a speech made in 1998 by the current President of Turkey, Recap Tayyip Erdogan, in which he repeated lines from an Islamic poem that said “The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and Muslims our soldiers…”

In vain I tried to register with Paritha’s paper because there are some questions that only her vast experience as a non-muslim Indian can answer.I appreciate that in Hindu dominated India Muslims and Hindus live in relative peace with the occasional flare-up of inter-ethnic violence.
It is on the condition of minority Hindus in Indian controlled Kashmir that I am looking for answers. Why on earth should 300,000 of them fled the country of their birth to go and live in refugee camps. Perhaps she could also answer why at partition in 1947 the Hindu population of
Bangladesh was 30%, reduced to 22% because of emigration back to India at independence, but now is only 10% of the population. She could also answer why a million Hindus living in Bangladesh at the time of the break-up with Pakistan (1971) chose to give all their land and possessions to their Muslim neighbours and club themselves, their wives and children to death. She could perhaps answer why the Hindu population of Pakistan has gone from 10% at partition the the 1.6% it is now. The only thing she has been able to explain is why in Indian controlled West Bengal the Muslim population has gone from 12% at partition to the 25% it is today
