AMNESTY International has learned that the Danish government has invited Sudanese President Omar al Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, to attend a meeting in Copenhagen on climate change in December. “Denmark needs to make it clear that it will arrest President al Bashir if he travels to Copenhagen,” said Christopher Keith Hall, senior legal adviser at Amnesty International.

This article probably by Ari Shavit could not have been written in the United States, certainly not in the New York Times to which Haaretz is often compared. But it’s dead on.
Today a grotesque ceremony will be held in Oslo. An American president who has not yet managed to make peace anywhere in the world will be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He will be awarded the prize even though he is personally responsible for scores of targeted killings and much slaughter of civilians in aerial bombardments. He will be awarded the prize even though he has just decided to escalate one of the two ineffectual wars he is conducting. He will be awarded the prize only because he is a Democrat, a liberal and a black man who defeated the Republicans and cast George W. Bush out of the White House.

Happer served as the director of energy research at the U.S. Department of Energy from 1990 to 1993. In that capacity, he supervised all of DOE’s work on climate change. Happer said he quickly realized the climate scientists were different from typical scientists. “They were a strange group of people, very politicized,” he said. “They would look at you and you could see them thinking, ‘What sort of answer does he want?’”
Happer says it the loudest. He terms the IPCC crowd a “religious cult” and says, “Disagreeing with them is like going to Saudi Arabia and criticizing Muhammad.” As for the media, we’ve been guilty of putting our faith in the carbon cult as well, he said. “In spite of what you read in the papers, there has been no warming for 10 years,” said Happer.
