Iraq: female suicide bomber kills 41 in attack on Shia pilgrims


A female suicide bomber killed at least 41 people when she blew herself up among Shia pilgrims in the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Police said more than 100 people were also injured in the attack in northern Baghdad. Women and children were among the dead.  More>>

The pilgrims were making their way to the southern holy city of Karbala to mark a revered day on the Shia calendar. It raised fears of an escalation of attacks when the pilgrimage culminates on Friday.
