Here we go again. Look out for Mohammedans popping up complaining that Westerners beat their wives too, the translation is incorrect, the beating has to be done “lightly” and “only if absolutely necessary” and with no more than a “toothbrush…”

The proposal to introduce prison terms for men who beat their wives goes against the Koran and the teachings of the prophet Mohamed, according to the head of Algeriàs Superior Islamic Council.
Qaher Sharif fiercely criticised the bill presented to the head of state Abdelaziz Bouteflikàs by the head of the Consultative Council on Human Rights Farouk Qustantiti. “This man’s aim is to violate a law of the Koran and of the Sunnah, and he meddles in subjects that are beyond his competence”, Sharif said in an interview with the Arab-language edition of the daily newspaper El Khabar. “Hés done it before with the death penalty, and now with beatings,” he added, asking “what difference can it make to him what goes on between a man and his wife?” The President of the Islamic Council said that he was stunned by Qustantinìs proposal, because “God has already pointed out precisely the way that a husband must behave towards his wife”.
He quoted verses 34 and 35 of the Surah on women, in which men are advised to “admonish women, confine them to their bed and beat them” should they commit “nushooz”, a term signifying both infidelity and a refusal of sexual intercourse. Sharif pointed out that the text is so precise that it indicates the method of punishment to be used against the wife, and that this should be neither “too insistent, nor provoke disfigurement”.

nope you got it right in literal terms..and do you how the beating is to be administered(if it is to follow the allowances in islam that is) with a knotted hankerchief or its like and on the legs and you cannot hit higher than the bum.there can be no marks left except slight redness that disappears within the same day.anymore and you have been unjust must bear the your failure and husband until you make amends.oh and you will find no forgiveness from god before you seek it from the injured party herself.i know this from practice so that’s the condensed version.compare that edict 1400 years ago with the ‘rule of thumb’ in england which indicates that a husband should beat his wife with a stick no wider than his thumb (i dont have info on the length) and this edict was issued out of mercy for the english ladies.
my point being men hit women throughout the ages and cultures and they should get dragged to court if said wife cant return the favour herself (preferably lorena bobbit style) but it aint exclusive to one religion and just because a whole bunch of perverted asses hang on to whatever interpretations to serve their own barbaric beliefs isnt the faith’s fault…that’s like still blaming christians for what they did to women in the middle ages( and some still do now)
and believe me these cultural crap is so ingrained in them it doesnt matter whether the religion is islam hinduism or what have you..they’ll still do it and claim it’s their god given right.it’s a vicious cycle where they dont allow women to be educated because if the did then women would know what is actually provided for them by God and these pathetic males (dont deserve to be called men) wouldnt be able to thunder out threats of hell for every little demand they make of their wives and daughters.

“but it aint exclusive to one religion “- yes it is. I don’t know of any other religious scriptures that mandate wife beating. Its certainly not in the Jewish or Christian bible. (I have not heard of any edict that mandates beating English ladies with sticks, but even if you can find one, its unlikely to be a religious decree. We don’t do fartwas either, so I don’t know why you mentioned it….)
In our culture, its against the law. That’s the law you want to replace with sharia. In our culture, we have women shelters that protect women from abusive husbands, and men who beat women are penalized.
In our culture we are trying to eliminate it.
Your religion mandates it, and on top of that you have a culture of abuse, that’s quite different. And the Koran can’t be changed, so you are stuck.

Noticeably, you are again applying the “other people do it too, so it cannot be wrong” logic. It is always wrong. Just that in some countries there is still no recourse.
Note to all Muslim women in Britain:
The suffragettes suffered imprisonment and torture to free English women from the “rule of the thumb” (yes it was real), from male ownership of all of a women’s property, from the virtual slavery of male guardianship and female inferiority.
They fought and suffered and were beaten and ostracised. Now you can get an education, work and actually keep your own wages (unlike in the UAE, were it is still handed to the male guardian).
Turning your back on these courageous women, spitting in their faces and demanding that your “submission” to misogyny is “respected”, is treason against your gender, your daughters and all brave women who fought that you may have the freedom to accept responsibility for your own lives.
Shame on you all.
Refuse to accept a 7th. century legal system and demand that Britain applies the civil laws we fought for, refuse to accept shariah courts.
