Kenan Malik: I despise him (Wilders), but that's no reason to ban him

The Independent:

A Marxist Muslim in Defense of Free Speech?

When he was banned from Britain last year, the then Home Secretary Jacqui Smith claimed that his “statements about Muslims … would threaten community harmony and therefore public security in the UK”.

Update:  Geert Wilders and Nigel Farage test the limits of free speech

Daniel Hannan has just lost my respect:

Nigel Farage was extremely rude to the President of the European Council last week. But rudeness is not against the law. Geert Wilders has some asinine opinions; but being asinine is not a criminal offence. Yet Nigel Farage has been fined by the European Parliament for insulting the dignity of Herman Van Rompuy, and Geert Wilders finds himself facing a possible prison sentence of 16 months for saying unpleasant things about Muslims. More from the Telegraph/UK Grow a pair, Daniel!

Kenan Malik:

Wilders on his victory tour to the UK

Wilders is a threat to public security only insofar as some of his critics may be provoked to respond with violence. But then they, not Wilders, should be held responsible. What of the threat to “community harmony”? Wilder’s ideas have caused controversy because there is a real debate in Western societies about Islam and about the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims. That is why his party, the PVV, made gains in Dutch elections last week. However deplorable we might find Wilders’ arguments we cannot wish them away. They have to be engaged with, openly and robustly. Go ahead make my day,  Malik! Engage him, now!

“Islam is not so much a religion, but more an ideology” – Geert Wilders

Far-right Dutch politician Geert Wilders told RT that Islam wants to rule and dominate not only all aspects of one’s life, but all aspects of society.

Islam should not be compared to other religions, like Christianity, Judaism or Buddhism, Wilders added. The highly controversial politician also said he wants to halt the immigration of Muslims, despite the fact he agrees that the majority of Muslims are peace-loving and law-abiding.

  1. Free speech without fear for – Kenan Malik, Ahmed, Ali, Jacqui Smith, EU president and everybody . But not for Geert Wilders who cannot go shopping or do the ordinary things of life with his family, without an armed escort.

Kenan Malik is for open doors immigration. It never occurred to him, that with open doors, Muslims will soon be a majority, and that will be the end of liberal democracy.

Kenan Malik sounds to me as if he was born a Muslim, though he may be a trendy liberal now.

    1. “Kenan Malik is for open doors immigration. It never occurred to him, that with open doors, Muslims will soon be a majority…”

How do you know it never occurred to him? Perhaps he believes that open doors will solve the problem naturally, before the cursed infidels wake up.

We must never underestimate the adherents of an ideology for whom “war is deceit”….

  2. I find it rather odd that Europe has given rise to only ONE Geert Wilders. Are the other politicians afraid of a backlash?

These are interesting time we are living in – as the world prepares for the appearing of the Anti-Christ and the subsequent, triumphant return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  3. A new experience in surreal irony has surfaced on YouTube in the form of “Dutch Capitulation in Afganistan -De Val van Balkenende” – maybe the best adaptation of Hitler Bunker scene yet.
One of the leading candidates for President of Europe last year, the Dutch PM Balkenende saw his Government collapse over his insistance to extend the Dutch troops stay in Afganistan.
In an eerily similar storyline to the original 3rd Reich version, watch how effortlessly actual Balkenende quotes flow from Hitler’s mouth “What is needed is strength, not the easy way out’…not to mention an uncanny physical resemblence (when Hitler wears glasses).
It is also interesting to watch “Hitler’s” enthusiasm for utilising ‘anti-hate’ laws to persecute those who in his eyes have caused ‘offence’.

Quite right sheikh. But I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. You know- fair and all that.

  5. Gadaffi, the Libyan buffoon said, there’s no need for jihad or violence in any form. At the rate our people are flooding western countries and the way our people are populating, within 20 years we will have the majority and take control of the west. This speech of his is common knowledge. What are the politicians doing to safe guard their own people against this threat which is so real? Have they lost all sense of reason in their blind desire to kiss the filthy arses of these muslim dogs?
