Today's Fatwa: Female Genital Mutilation is 'commendable' (Allah knows best).

Ask the Imam Online Q & A with Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Look out for Muhammad worshippers who will pop up to tell us its a “cultural thing”-  and that many other religions and African tribes do it too…. nothing to do with Islam etc etc….

What does Islam (Holy Quran, Shariah, Hadith) say , if at all, about the female circumcision or FGM – Female Genital Mutilation? Is it permissible or not permissible?

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu

1. Circumcision for males is Waajib (compulsory) according to Imaam Abu
Hanifa. If circumcision will hinder a person from accepting Islam then
accepting Islam should be given preference over circumcision.
2. It is Mustahabb (commendable) for females to circumcise. It is narrated
in an authentic Hadith quoted from Abu Dawood Shareef that during the
Prophet (Sallallaahu ?layhi Wasallam)’s time there was a woman in Madinah
who used to perform circumsicion for women (Fathul Bari vol. 16 p. 353)

  1. Female Circumcision Prevents HIV/AIDS

Stallings et al. (2009) reported that, in Tanzanian women, the risk of HIV among women who had undergone Female Circumcision was roughly half that of women who had not; the association remained significant after adjusting for region, household wealth, age, lifetime partners, and union status.

Kanki et al. reported that, in Senegalese prostitutes, women who had undergone Female Circumcision had a significantly decreased risk of HIV-2 infection when compared to those who had not.

  2. Ameena,
I suspect that you have misunderstood the statistics and thus made an extemely simplistic and incorrect assertion. I will check this out because what you claim makes no sense what so ever. Female circumcision cannot defeat the mechansims by which the AIDS virus is transferred from person to person, so if such a statistical weighting actually does exist then the reason lies elsewhere.

  3. Come on please. Statements like this, saying that genital cutting is commendable and mandatory… is going to end this religion. I am happy there exists movements like muslims against circumcision. Genital cutting is nothing but cutting. And it happens because boys and girls can’t defend themselves. And Allah knows best, so don’t mess with animals and human’s bodies. It would make lots of sense to say that genital cutting is illegal, and keeping body integrity… commendable. Those who which to change their bodies may do so. And Ameena made a funny joke, I for one get it.

  4. Human …..

Ameena was either being sarcastic or making an idiotic statement. Given her previous posts the second seems more likely. I would say that the daily behaviour of islamists suggests that shutting down islam is a good idea!!
