Great Idea: Let's Do Clit-Cutting Over Here so They Don't Have to Do it Over There…..

Female Genital Mutilation in the US of A? But of course! Its their culture, after all. Right? Who are we to judge…..!?

American Academy of Pediatrics new policy statement. “How much blood will parents be satisfied with?”

Oh, it’s a custom from the old country?! Why didn’t you say so!

Barenaked presents:

Hey, it’s just a little nick “down there.” Oh, and so much better than the total genital mutilation Muslim cultures perform on little girls, usually by the neighborhood clit cutter, lacking medical training or sanitary instruments. What’s important is that it would “build trust” with Muslim immigrant families.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has suggested a new way to fight female genital mutilation in the United States: Allow doctors to give girls a “nick” down there. In a policy statement titled “Ritual Genital Cutting of Female Minors,” the Academy suggests that allowing such a ritual could serve as a way to “build trust” with immigrant families and prevent parents from sending their girls overseas for far more extensive, and potentially life-threatening, procedures. It’s a “possible compromise to avoid greater harm,” the statement says.

AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS APPROVAL OF CLITORECTOMIES

As you might imagine, the Academy’s endorsement of a ritualistic “nick” has not gone over well. PZ Myers of Pharyngula mockingly wrote: “We’ll just mutilate baby girls a little bit, to make the misogynist patriarchal assholes happy.” Taking a similar tack, Shakesville’s Melissa McEwanturned up the snark real loud: “Girls get only a little heinous physical and psychological trauma, and their guardians get to practice their violent misogyny, just in a slightly less violent way.

The position statement seemed so ambiguous to me that I had to give the Academy a call to ask just what it meant by a “nick.” Are we talking about the sort of shallow cut that might result from the slip of a razor or full-on female circumcision, where the clitoral hood is removed? Neither, it turns out. Dr. Lainie Friedman Ross, one of the statement’s authors, compared it to an ear piercing. It wouldn’t involve the removal of skin, instead it would be more like ”a pin prick, a drop of blood.” As she described it, the “nick” would be ritualistic and symbolic.” SALON

BUT HOW MUCH BLOOD will parents be satisfied with, asks Georganne Chapin, executive director of an advocacy group called Intact America. She was “astonished that a group of intelligent people did not see the utter slippery slope that we put physicians on” with the new policy statement. She added: “There are countries in the world that allow wife beating, slavery and child abuse, but we don’t allow people to practice those customs in this country. We don’t let people have slavery a little bit because they’re going to do it anyway, or beat their wives a little bit because they’re going to do it anyway.”

Currently, more than 130 million women and girls worldwide have undergone female genital cutting, according to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. It is mostly performed on girls much younger than 15 in mostly Muslim countries including Egypt, Ethiopia, Sudan and Somalia. Consequences can include severe complications withpregnancy, childbirth and sexual dysfunction. NY TIMES

(As you will see if you view the videos below, FGM is barbaric as well as unhygienic. For the Academy to think there is any compromise is to completely misunderstand why the mutilations occur in the first place. FGM is a misogynous practice with serious intentional consequences. It is a violation of a female’s human rights. The Academy is either naive or culturally patronizing to think a centuries old practice will be abandoned because Western medicine gives its approval to a substitute. The Academy is wrong in suggesting there is a benign form of FGM.)

  1. There can be no possible motivation beyond the petty desires of a misogynistic society willing for others to pay any price to protect their dubious manhood and lack of sexual prowess. Of course it might just be that they prefer a little boys rectum and dont want their women discovering there is a world of pleasure outside the Muslim world.
Because should their women decide to look elsewhere who then would they have to beat, kill, burn, mutilate and throw acid on.
A sick ,pathetic culture that has made no progress in 1400 years and about time it was to be found only in the history books!

  2. Agreed mutation – the suggestion from the Ped. Association comes because this association has been infiltrated by muslims – time to demote them.

  3. Beema,
We have to lobby to remove these people from these positions. If you know enough women who are fed up with these islamic creeps then get them together and get them focused to get into the media with their message.

  4. Again another stupidity from western men. I hope that no western doctor dare to this practice. He might be in for a big surprise from western women, who will go after him. ( let him wonder in what kind of a way ), you have parts who can be cut off too.

  5. Dr.Friedman-Ross should make aliah….work at an Israeli hospital and witness first hand the quaint “traditions” of our enemies.

  6. Hey Mutation

Now the USA has a health care program, this will become the norm. Let the taxpayers pay for it. I worked at the Children’s Hospital and we had so many little girls admitted only because there was a risk of death and they may have to pay the consequences. And the mental health problems will manifest itself in due course. Obama knew what he was doing. You bet your boot straps he did.

    Hey Maria,

Hate to remind you, there are thousands of Islamic doctors in Australia and they do this hidous mutilation. In fact, an adult woman had a clitorectomy performed on her by a soldier of Allah very recently under anaesthetic. It is before the courts now.

And we have monsters like Patel who are responsible for the death of several people and permanent damage to others.

And Kaw, As stated yesterday in an academic essay from Denmark,
THE PEOPLE MOST ADVERSELY EFFECTED BY ISLAM ARE MUSLIMS. Their mental capacity is much less than a Westerner and they cannot be educted and interestingly only 8 muslims has ever won a Noble Prize and that was for Peace (ho ho ho). They have never been educated to be able to write anything, and as for Medicine or Science –
forget it as Allah takes care of all of this. And, another interesting fact, only 10% of Turks have ever read a book. I know this is true because a muslim man tore up copies of my Horodotus, Plato, Cato, and Euripides because he said they were evil books and they were filthy. He had quite a sense of humour considering where he is coming from.

  7. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the US has passed its expiration date…we have risen way above our level of competency (imagine!). I can guarantee, however, that the American Academy of Pediatricians did not come up with this brain child on their own. I’m sure they had some prodding from a US muslim group somewhere whom would find it oh so expedient to create a new expressway to legitimize yet another barbaric muslim practice here in the US. We need to start seeing the forest through the trees people!

  8. Indonesia: Ministry of health approves “guidelines” for female genital mutilation

Under pressure from Muslim organizations, which must be under the spell of greasy Islamophobes — after all, everyone knows that this practice has nothing to do with Islam, right? Right? The smooth deceivers just keep forgetting to tell Muslims that. “Fears Indonesian Female Circumcision Guidelines Could Increase Practice,” from the Jakarta Globe, September 2 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

West Java. Guidelines on how to perform female genital mutilation/cutting issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health could cause an increase in the practice, medical experts and rights groups fear.
“This will give doctors a new motivation to circumcise [girls] because now they can say the Ministry of Health approves of this, and the Indonesian Council of Ulema [MUI] approves of it,” said Jurnalis Uddin, a doctor and lecturer at Yarsi University in Jakarta.

Though FGM/C was banned in 2006, two of Indonesia’s Muslim organizations, including the largest and mostly moderate, Nahdlatul Ulama, ultimately condone the practice advising “not to cut too much,” and, as a result, many continue to perform the procedure. […]

Experts say there has been increasing support for the practice from Muslim groups since the downfall of authoritarian leader Suharto in 1998, resulting in greater religious and political freedom, known as “Reformasi”.

“Before Reformasi [FGM/C] was mostly done on an individual basis, but since Reformasi, it has been done in mass events,” said Siti Musda Mulia, an academic specializing in Islamic studies, who initially conducted research on the process during the Suharto era, and has conducted follow-up research since 1998.

Uddin found Indonesia-wide FGM/C had not increased dramatically since the Suharto era; however in some areas, such as Bandung, West Java, there was an increasing tendency to perform it, even among moderate Muslims.

Across Indonesia approximately 12 percent of female babies born in hospitals, birthing centres or assisted by government midwives have been circumcised, a figure that excludes FGM/C procedures done outside such facilities, Uddin said.

FGM/C remains a controversial practice, with debated origins. Religious experts say it is a foreign cultural practice not sanctioned in any of Islam’s religious texts….

Actually Muhammad took for granted that it would be done, and condoned it: “A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said to her: Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.” – Sunan Abu Dawud 41.5251
