Once again, the Muslims can’t lie straight in bed:
“We are Americans. We support this society,” he said. “We’re Muslims also, but … from an Islamic perspective, any intent to do any harm to anyone–man, woman or child– is against the Koran.”
Just hours before a thwarted bombing attempt at Portland’s annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony, leaders of the Portland Rizwan Mosque handed out pro-peace fliers blocks away.
Not to worry, the FBI is onto it:
FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele said it’s standard for the agency to become involved in attacks on religious groups, but that the possible connection between the fire and the arrest of Mohamud makes their involvement even more important.
“The FBI would not tolerate any retaliation on the Muslim community as a result of that arrest,” Steele said. “We have an ongoing relationship with the Muslim leaders in Corvallis. This is of high concern to them.”…
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the fire….
“We have made it quite clear that the FBI will not tolerate any kind of retribution or attack on the Muslim community,” Balizan said. “We are working very closely with the leadership at the mosque. We will find the person responsible for this attack and bring the full force of the federal justice system to bear. In the meantime, the FBI remains absolutely committed to protecting each and every American’s right to live, work and worship in a free and safe society.”… (under Islam of course, you dumb shmuck…!)
Later the same night, mosque leaders were taking calls from the FBI. Mohamed Osman Mohamud, a 19-year-old Somali immigrant, had just been arrested on accusations that he was responsible for the attempted bombing.
“They feared some reprisal would be possible. Obviously, that’s what we saw in Corvallis,” said Richard Reno, president of the Rizwan Mosque. “They wanted to give us as much of a heads-up as possible.”
In Corvallis, an arsonist set fire to the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center, where Mohamud occasionally attended services. No one was hurt, but 80 percent of the center’s office was burned.
