Canada: Soharwardy Doubles Down, Claims "Misunderstanding"

If its not ‘misunderstanding’ its ‘out of context’.

“Muslims are going through that situation right now where the Jews faced before the Holocaust,” Soharwardy told CTV earlier this week.   (Syed Soharwardy.)

Imam who linked veil rule to Nazi Germany claims `misunderstanding.’

Calgary imam apologizes for Holocaust comparison— sort of, but not really…..

Judy Shapiro, community relations director with the Calgary Jewish Community Council, said she understood that Soharwardy was disagreeing with federal government policy.

“But there is no comparison between what Canadian Muslims are facing today and what the Jews faced in Germany before the Holocaust,” Shapiro said.

“Not only is such a statement factually wrong, but it’s insensitive, at the very least, not only to the Jewish community, but to all Canadians. To equate Canadians to Nazis is totally unwarranted.”

Shapiro said no meeting has been set up, but if it does happen, it will be private.

I like Scaramouche’s take on this:

Time to Rename Him “Shoah” Soharwardy?

Since Syed Soharwardy, imam of the grandiosely-named Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, is apparently in the grip of a terrible case of Holocaust envy (his website posits a whole bunch of Muslim “holocausts” here, and the other day he claimed, incredibly, that because a woman will have to show her face to take the Oath of Citizenship, Muslims in Canada are being treated like Jews were in Nazi Germany) I think the new nic is well-earned, don’t you?

  1. “…the current situation of Muslims that we are facing is trending to a situation that will be very very horrible.”
I don’t know about you, but I read that statement as being a veiled threat to be perpetrated by HIS side onto us Kuffars.

  2. Flashback:

Soharwardy writes an Open Letter to Mr. Geert Wilders

    Dear Mr. Geert Wilders,

Unfortunately I know very little about you. The little that I do know has come to me through the media, and this information is very negative. You have been portrayed as a hatemonger, Islamophobe and racist. However, since the source of my information about you has mostly come to me through “revenue and profit driven” media outlets or rumors, I doubt its authenticity and truthfulness.

Similarly, your information about the Qur’an and Islam seems to be based upon “propaganda and rumors”. A person like you should not rely only on personal judgments or rumors when commenting on a religion which is fourteen centuries old and followed by more than 1.5 billion people.

Therefore, on behalf of three local organizations in Canada: the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, Muslims Against Terrorism and the Multi-Faith Walk Against Violence, I would like to invite you to visit our Al Madinah Calgary Islamic Centre, 5700 Falsbridge Drive, NE Calgary, Canada, at your earliest convenience. We will be happy to pay all your travel and lodging expenses for the Calgary visit.

We are making this gesture because we believe if you visit our centre and have a dialogue with me on all the issues / concerns that you have regarding the Qur’an and Islam, you will be able to find the truth about them.

Neither the Qur’an nor Islam teaches what you appear to understand about them. Muslims are normal people and can not follow any thing that seems to be inhuman or abnormal.

We want to know you better. You should also try to know our religion better. You should not rely on your own personal interpretation of the Qur’an and Islam OR the interpretation of whatever fanatics and extremists you may have encountered.

I assure you Mr. Wilders if you meet with me and discuss your concerns about the Qur’an and Islam, I will be able to answer any questions you may have to your satisfaction.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope for your positive response.

    Best Regards,

    (Imam) Syed B. Soharwardy
