Criticizing Islam taboo in academia

by sheikyermami on October 2, 2012

Apart from the “radical” puffery, this is dead-on. “Criticizing Islam taboo in academia: ex-Yale expert says,” by Janice Arnold for Canadian Jewish News, October 2 (thanks to JW):

MONTREAL — Academics who study Islamic antisemitism are risking career advancement and younger scholars are shying away from the subject as a result, said Montreal native Charles A. Small, who headed a Yale University program in antisemitism until it was shut down last year amid controversy.  (Continued below the fold)

The situation is no better in Australia:

Islam & Academics – Mervyn Bendle

A retiring Queensland academic has fired a broadside at Australian universities for failing to have anything useful to say about Islam and it’s effects in Australia.  James Cook senior lecturer in History and Communication, a man who specialises in comparative religion, Mervyn Bendle says universities have little useful to reveal about the factors leading up to the Sydney Islamic protests last weekend or the planned anti-Islamaphobia planned in Melbourne this weekend.  Another rally is planned, police havve warned protestors to keep a lid on it, but Meryn Bendle says the problem here in actually the academie is failing in it’s key role.—Listen to the audio, here

Update:

This is  the kind of wakademic leftards and their Muselmanic masters love:

Melbourne based academic, Dr Gideon Polya, last week issued an impassioned call to African heads of state encouraging them to block Australia’s bid for a United Nations Security Council seat based on what he terms “Australia’s blind support for the Zionist-backed US War on Muslims”.

In his letter, Dr Polya, argues that Australia has a record of supporting apartheid and genocide.

Polya is certifiably insane, but that’s okay…..

The Oxford-educated Small is currently the Koret Distinguished Scholar at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution in California and director of the New York-based Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy, which he founded.

While in Montreal to visit family for the holidays, Small gave a talk at the Canadian Institute for Jewish Research. The title summed up the dire situation that Small believes faces Israel, the Jewish community and anyone concerned with the preservation of democracy and human rights: “Incitement to Genocidal Antisemitism: Radical Islam and the Acquiescence of the Western Intellectuals and Policy Makers.”

“If you are critical of a reactionary social movement, somehow you are a racist, a neo-con fascist,” said Small. “The academy in the West is permeated [with this attitude.]”

Regrettably, he added, that view is also found among some Jewish intellectuals.

“Those scholars who have the courage to deal with this issue fear that they will not get jobs, or get promoted, or get published in the right journals… If you go against the grain, you’re out.”

Small blamed a prevailing “liberal, post-colonial” mindset among those running universities, and in some cases, because of funding from Muslim countries, such as the Gulf States.

Small portrayed himself as one of the few western intellectuals today who are saying clearly and publicly that radical Islam – and he includes the Muslim Brotherhood in that term – espouses an antisemitism that ultimately seeks to kill Jews.

“Pernicious antisemitism is at the core of radical Islam… It’s fueling the movement… whether its Sunni or Shiite,” he said. “The Iranian regime is theologically obligated to destroy Israel. The Muslim Brotherhood wants to obliterate Israel.”

The hatred is not only directed at a state – calls for the death of Jews can be heard in the mosques, he added.

Small believes that it was his outspokenness that cost him his post last year as director of the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Antisemitism, which he founded five years earlier.

He recalled an associate provost at Yale telling him “we have to engage with Islam,” and appearing offended when Small replied that scholars must “scientifically and dispassionately” study any social movement and describe it as they find it.

Small deplored that U.S. President Barack Obama would meet with the new Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsi, a Muslim Brotherhood leader, and that the Obama administration has been supporting them in Egypt on the grounds that it is moderate.

Nothing could be further from the truth, as far as Small is concerned. Not only is the movement antisemitic, but it’s “diametrically” opposed to democratic principles, such as equality.

“The Obama administration invited and aided the Muslim Brotherhood to take power in Egypt,” he said. “If you are going to support such a movement, at least draw a red line [on what’s acceptable.]”

Small also lamented the inaction by Jewish leaders on the threat of radical Islam. “We are asleep. We have to educate our students, our community, speak to our governments, march in the streets like we did for Soviet Jewry.”

Yep.

Too small? Click here This is a satirical website. None of what you read here has anything to do with Islam, because Islam is a Religion of Peace. Everybody knows that good Muslims never do the things they do, (because Allah does it for them, Quran 8:12) and we know that only our misperceptions, ignorance and stereotyping of Islam makes Muslims chop off heads, kill and rape women and children, bomb subways, buses, nightclubs and fly jets into buildings. If it wasn't for the media and da Jooozzz, we wouldn't even know its happening. We welcome open, honest, thoughtful, and vigorous discussion in the comments threads, so do yourself a favour and don't accuse us of being 'haters' because we are loving, tolerant people. Don't curse us, don't threaten us with death or hellfire, and don't accuse us of being "just like the terrorists" because we don't do to Muslims what they do to us or to themselves. Yes, we know that only idiots oppose Islam and sensible people submit, but  you should know that we are ignorant bigots, hypocrites and Islamophobes, and we prefer to remain that way... But since you are forcing yourselves (and your abhorrent belief-system on us) we will defend ourselves, because we must. Avoid tu quoque and ad hominem attacks. Don't bother with circular reasoning either, we been there, done it.  If you annoy us, you will be banned and your posts summarily deleted. Try to add to the discussion, don't try to sell snake oil, don't try to cover us with Islamic shrouds of kitman and taqiyya, don't bother with da'awa, (we've heard it before) don't spam us with long pieces of cut & paste, write in English, try to tell the truth, (we know that's hard for you because you are all pathological liars) but the truth will set you free, try it! One more thing: don't think you can post here under multiple monikers. You will quickly be disappeared! The same goes for trufers and conspiracy kooks: you get one chance, one time. Blow it out of your ass if you must; put your stupidity on display. But you won't be back, trust me on that. Take a deep breath before you post, try to make some sense, do not just vent, do not make a fool of yourself and if you prove us wrong you can earn 10 Islamic dollars for your piggy bank. Deal?

They need to grow some balls. They have the ‘tools’, the resources, and unfortunately lack the gonads, to be able to criticize islam.

If they get bashed then shame on them for thinking that is not the real world – they are the ones who have taught that making personal bashing is the way to argue, criticize and discuss a subject if they are losing the argument.

Actually I’m with Polya on this – I hope an pray that Australia does not gain a (temporary) seat on the Unholy Nations inSecurity Council. The UN is a modern day Tower of Babel and it is no surprise that it has degenerated into the cesspool that it is and that Rudd, Gillard and what’s his name, now I remember, Carr, are pursuing it is indicative of their nature. The thought of their disappointment and frustration at being given the thumbs down by tin pot third world tyrants is worth savouring.

Absolutely! Isn’t it amazing that a wakademic crackpot like Polya who is just about wrong on everything is on ‘our side’ when it comes to not wanting to be part of a muselmanic crime syndicate like the UN?
