Pro-Israel rally in Melbourne

More than 1000 pro-Israel demonstrators waved flags and held ‘Stop The Rockets’ signs at a rally in South Caulfield this morning.

Air raid sirens blared from speakers as young and old protesters, dressed head to toe in red, gathered at Princes Park to show their support for Israel during the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Federal Labor MP Mark Dreyfus told the crowd that Israel was defending itself as any country would.

“Imagine if any part of Australia was under attack in the way Israel has been under constant attack from Gaza now for years and years and years and years. Of course Australia would respond. So too, must Israel respond.”

The peaceful rally comes as Israeli airstrikes killed at least 14 Palestinians in Gaza overnight in retaliation to ongoing rocket attacks by Hamas.

Mr Dreyfus read a statement released by Prime Minister Julia Gillard on Friday, saying he was pleased to be part of a government who brought “such clarity to the need to support Israel”.

Zionist Federation of Australia president Philip Chester said Israel had been subjected to more than 12,000 rockets in 12 years.

“Such attacks on Israel’s population are utterly unacceptable.”

Victorian Liberal Senator Scott Ryan and state Liberal MP David Southwick also addressed the crowd, defending Israel’s decision to retaliate against ongoing rocket attacks by Hamas.

“Every citizen has a right to expect that they can live in peace and every government has a duty to defend that,” Mr Ryan said.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators held a “snap protest” in Melbourne’s CBD on Saturday, adding they would hold a larger protest next Friday.

Don't bother with circular reasoning either, we been there, done it. If you annoy us, you will be banned and your posts summarily deleted. Try to add to the discussion, don't try to sell snake oil, don't try to cover us with Islamic shrouds of kitman and taqiyya, don't bother with da'awa, (we've heard it before) don't spam us with long pieces of cut & paste, write in English, try to tell the truth, (we know that's hard for you because you are all pathological liars) but the truth will set you free, try it! …..I will take this chance to say the turn out at a recent Max Brenner counter protest was abysmal. With over 100 attending to say DOWN WITH ISRAEL there were oh, I will say about 20 pro Israeli people, I for one will not be going anywhere near a rally for the Israeli people if they themselves cannot be bothered.
No wonder this country, and state in particular is *$@&ed.

If there is a large counter protest the media will lap it up and plaster BDS all over the papers and screens. It’s a bit like not paying attention to little Jamie when he’s having a tantrum. Let them do their yelling and screaming and stomping with feet, and when they see nobody pays any attention they roll up their banner and troll off and the media will ignore it. No blood, no fistycuffs, boooring. At least so is the theory.

They had less boat arrivals, but in fact took the overall numbers to new massive heights, allowed the scam hairdresser and cookery classes to count towards PR visas, opened up the avenue from uni student to PR visas and watered down the 457 provisions to the joke they are today. In Johnnies better years we had nearly half a million inbound non-tourists. He has stopped the boats, yes, but he opened the other doors high and wide. Not wanting to excuse for Labor and this rotten govt, just to avoid disappointment. both Libs and Labs love multicult and a biiig Australia for different reasons.

I firmly blame immigration and multiculturalism for the decline in the quality of life in Australia. The only parties that talk about ending it is the Stable Population Party or the Australian Protectionist Party.
