Andrew Bolt:
Isn’t this racism – and the kind of intellectual ghettoisation that creates division, not peace?
Hebrew University of Jerusalem academic Dan Avnon is credited with developing and implementing the only state program in civics written for joint Jewish-Arab high schools.
He approached the head of the Sydney University centre, Jake Lynch, for assistance with studying civics education in Australia under a fellowship agreement between the two institutions.
But Associate Professor Lynch rebuffed the request, citing the centre’s support for the anti-Israeli Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.
(Lynch is one of those “Peace and Conflict Studies” creatures, and a Jew-hatin’ conspiracy theorist)
Shameful. Utterly shameful. And that’s leaving aside the sheer stupidity of the political analysis.
Thank heavens someone at the university believes in dealing with people as individuals and not as members of an ethnic or religious collective:
University of Sydney vice-chancellor Michael Spence rejected a call from Associate Professor Lynch in 2009 to cut links with the Hebrew University and a second Israeli institution, the Technion, in the city of Haifa. “I do not consider it appropriate for the university to boycott academic institutions in a country with which Australia has diplomatic relations,” he wrote in response at the time.
A spokesman for Dr Spence said … Associate Professor Lynch was “entitled to express a public opinion where it falls under his area of expertise”, but added, “on this particular matter he does not speak for the school, the faculty or for the university”.
I am not surprised – yet still appalled – that Lynch holds such an important position in academia. I wonder how many Jewish students feel at all welcome in his classes, given his astonishing attitude to Israel?
UPDATE
Bob Carr is being a genuine worry for those who value democracy and those allies which practice it:
BOB Carr on Radio National’s Breakfast yesterday:FROM my visit to Israel in the middle of the year I can confirm that there are senior figures in the government of Israel who think deeply about these matters. They know that if Israel, five years from now, 10 years from now, is governing a burgeoning Arab population the world will not stand idly by.
Er Bob, the Palestinian Territories are already self-governing. CIA World Fact Book, November 13:THE September 1993 Israel-PLO Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements provided for a transitional period of Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip … Mahmoud Abbas was elected PA president in January 2005 … In September 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew (from) the Gaza Strip … In January 2006, the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, won control of the Palestinian Legislative Council. Hamas took control of the PA government in March 2006 …
Carr again yesterday:I HOPE, I pray, that the decision about the E1 area in East Jerusalem is about the freeing up of planning approvals alone and not the next step, which would be the development approvals being conferred. If that development were to go ahead … it would destroy the contiguity of the territory the world hopes and that Israelis see as being a future Palestinian state.
Jonathan Tobin, Commentary Magazine, December 2:EVEN if the E1 area is developed, there will be no obstacle to peace talks that could produce a Palestinian state in almost all of the West Bank except for the major settlement blocs that no one expects Israel to give up … If the Palestinians truly wanted to live in peace in their own independent state next to Israel they could go back to the negotiating table and get it.

Hey australia !!! Fire that bozo named Bob Carr. He needs to get into the unemployment line where he will meet many of his own IQ level.
Agreed Grego – the problem is that his corrupt union mates have fixed the system – albeit for a short while.
I’m not surprised by the gutter anti-Semitism of Sydney Uni (whose prestige for academic achievement is a far way from what it once was. I would like to see a statistic how many “re”-versions to islam are happening there. They are certainly full-on into advertising the “religion of peace” and there are times, when one feels quite underdressed not wearing an islamic head-hiding-rug if one is female.
As a mere “conservative” you are persona non grata at Sydney University (remember the disgraceful persecution of Dame Leonie Kramer?), but if you are Jewish AND conservative (or “extreeeeeme right wing” as the left-populists call conservatives) I wish you “good luck” you will need it.
As to the anti-Semitic BDS this supposed custodian of intellectual freedom is indulging in: it’s nothing short of Book-Burning. I highly recommend “The World Turned Upside Down” by Melanie Phillips.
PS: dont include that university in your will.
PPS: in fact dont financially support their so-called “charities” in any way, send warm clothing to the brave soldiers of the IDF instead.
PPPS: Bob Carr is a Jew-Hater and PR – man for HAMAS.
@Rita,
You said, “As a mere “conservative” you are persona non grata at Sydney University”.
If you are a conservative at any western university, unless you can bring in the big money, like Nial Ferguson and a few others. If you have aspirations of working in academia and do not want to be black balled it would be prudent and in your best interest to keep your views to your self and your mouth shut.
You are correct, despite all the posing of the left and their claims of being open and accepting to pluralistic viewpoints. Conservatism or as the left see all conservatism as being “extreeeeeme right wing” is not tolerable.
But, they are more then happy to tolerate and defend Islam that advocates the murder of gays, hates women, believes in slavery. Is aracist group that is hateful and murderous to other cultures and religions.
The Left’s support and defense of Islam shows that they have no moral code or integrity. They are nothing more then irrational, petulant (dangerous) children. Who out of a self righteous rebelliousness will happily undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded.
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Liberals are criminals.
The muslim ideology is all about hate, revenge, intolerance, violence and lying to gain advantage over your enemy – it’s all about might-makes-right extortion, aka CRIME.
Rape, war and poverty were all endorsed by Muhammad, who called them “holy duties!” Naturally, the poverty bit didn’t apply to him personally.
Islamic “beliefs” include the belief that their god cannot be understood nor reasoned with, (so it might as well not exist at all) only feared and obeyed. They also include the criminal notion that, since Muhammad got away with committing his crimes, (and he tried them all, enthusiastically, many times and, far from ever feeling remorse or apologizing for them, instead encouraged everyone else to join him in committing them, too) then “god” must have wanted him to get away with committing those crimes! So obviously islam is only an ancient yet ongoing extortion-racket CRIME syndicate, and the only “religious” part in it, is where they say:
“God told us to commit these crimes!”
(Capisce?)!
;-)
So why does it now always seem to be “illegal” to accuse these moslem criminals of their crimes, if doing so might hurt their feelings (and so “make” them commit even more crimes!)? Simply because:
Liberals are racists – they always assume that ONLY White, Western people (including, of course, the Jews in Israel,) are INTELLIGENT enough to be judged guilty of being truly evil, while all their pet “People Of Colour” (including, of course, the “swarthy palestinians,”) just can’t help being violent animals, the poor oppressed little dears, so they’ll always indulge their crimes, much as one ignores the new puppy as it pees on the rugs.
Liberals are idolaters who pretend to believe in group rights, never in individual responsibilities! Idols are only excuses, alibis for crimes.
And their real problem is that liberals hate personal responsibility, so they avoid it by selling endless group-rights victimology scenarios instead. That way the cowards can pretend to be champions without risking accusing any real individual human criminals of their crimes!
Their group-rights victimology sales are based on a critical-thinking logical fallacy (which is really only a slanderous evasion of the fact that he has no facts): aka the Post Hoc: because one thing follows another, it is held to cause the other, which in this specific case advocates for the false notion that, if a perceived minority exists, then it’s minority status “must be” the fault (and have been caused by) a nearby group which currently enjoys a relative majority status, in comparison. Generalized and abstracted, it only means:
“All minorities were decimated into that status by oppressive majorities! Always!”
As if a “minority” of criminals couldn’t terrorize a majority of their victims! In always endorsing group-might-made-rights, liberal gangsters only engage in criminal extortion.

“…. If you have aspirations of working in academia and do not want to be black balled it would be prudent and in your best interest to keep your views to your self and your mouth shut….”
You have actually to do worse and sing loudly from the same songsheet – and this starts already at undergraduate level. This is the bully way by which they increase the like-minded idiots.
“…The Left’s support and defense of Islam shows that they have no moral code or integrity…”
I think they are birds of the same feather. Left = Islam without god
Sheik Yermami described the left once like this:
“Leftism today is devoid of honor, it is devoid of integrity, it is devoid of patriotism, it is devoid of loyalty, it is devoid of logic, it is devoid of principle, it is devoid of truth, it is devoid of soul. Ah yes, its also devoid of morals and ethics.
It is small, it is petty, it is divisive and it is ugly.”
@ Hill
Hi, I just answered but the post didn’t get through….:(
No worries.
I am sure the Sheik will get is sorted, but will keep an eye out for it.
And will look forward to your reply.
“…And will look forward to your reply….”
it’s not all that interesting….but you know…like the fish that got away is always the biggest…;) Basically I agreed with you.
@Rita,
You said, “You have actually to do worse and sing loudly from the same songsheet – and this starts already at undergraduate level. This is the bully way by which they increase the like-minded idiots.”
Agree. Sadly, this is the worst aspects of of contemporary academia. Undergrads are no longer going into universities that support the expression of free thought, but to have students reiterate the lecturer’s or professor’s opinion.
Sometimes, It is much of the same if you are doing graduate work; depending on the class or who your adviser is they can go a long way to burning you and you still may have to parrot their views.
Still, if you want to move up/funding/support, etc…as an employee prudence requires silence or that you learn to be astute enough to recognize the ‘type’ of the person who sits on your panel or controls the department. If leftist ideology is too militant and it is blatant…life is too darn short. Go somewhere else.
“I think they are birds of the same feather. Left = Islam without god”
Although, I have never saw it in the manner that you articlulated it, I can see point and the commonality of being “without god”. I have always thought the left to be soulless posers.
I always considered the lefts support of Islam as a form of petulant rebellion, further supported by the duel aspects of being contrarians and exhibiting phoney self-righteous compassion for the ‘other’. This season, it just happens to be Islam. Ha. Poor “Free Tibet” got shafted and kicked to the curb for the more provocative and dangerous Islam.
After the Berlin wall came down and Nelson Mandela was freed, the Left was sent reeling for a cause célèbre! Save the Whales and Tibet was just not exotic enough to fit the need for anarchist defiance against the ‘adults’. Thank Goodness 9/11 and Global Warming happened. Phew! Now they can embrace communism again, albeit subversively.
The Sheik is not wrong they are soulless and empty people.
@Rita,
I have been thinking over our discussion a bit more about the point you made about the shared commonality between the left and Islam.
There is one more shared aspect, that I think we both missed.
That the left and Muslims are both in a perpetual state of arrested development and it is demonstrated in childish actions of both groups. IMHO.
All universities in the West are the same. Gone are the days of the academe, a place for freedom of expression of ideas. Now, there is only a single ideology thats acceptable and anyone or anything that counters this left-wing/communist thinking is removed as quickly as as possible. Try going to ANY university in the West and stating the truth that Islam is a dangerous, subversive, archaic, intolerant, violent political ideology hell bent on world domination. You would probably have to fend off a few fists…
@Infidel
….and a couple of death threats too.
Sadly, everything you said is true and we all suffer for it.
It demonstrates that intellectualism is dead (for the time being?) and the success of Cultural Marxism.
