More of the same:
Any money thrown at ’community organisations’ to help ‘community organisations’ of Muslims to make more excuses for the barbaric practice are nothing but an insult to Australia’s much maligned taxpayers, who are forced to foot the bill for this folly. FGM will not go away by throwing money at Islamic ‘communities’. FGM will go away by removing ‘Islamic communities’ from Australian soil.
Gillard targets female genital mutilation in Australia
JULIA Gillard has vowed to eradicate female genital mutilation in Australia, announcing a review of the legal framework in an effort to stop the “barbaric” practice.
The Prime Minister also pledged a national summit on the issue and to boost community awareness and education campaigns.
The intervention will push the issue into a national health priority.
Ms Gillard said the government would provide $500,000 in grants to fund organisations to run education and awareness activities and support change in communities.
We said pissing in the wind would be better.
New research and data collection on female genital mutilation will be undertaken as a priority. “This will help us build the evidence needed to support women and girls affected by female genital mutilation,” Ms Gillard said.
Health Minister Tanya Plibersek will hold a national summit on the subject early next year.
She said the Attorney-General, Nicola Roxon, would review the legal framework in Australia and advise whether changes were required to ensure full protection against female genital mutilation.
“Female genital mutilation intentionally alters and causes harm to the female genital organs for no medical reason,” Ms Gillard said in a statement last night.
“The UN World Health Organisation estimates 140 million girls and women worldwide are living with the consequences of female genital mutilation. It is often performed on girls under the age of 10.
“It is a violation of the human rights of women and girls and there is no place for it here in Australia. Its occurrence in this country cannot be excused by culture.”
She said the measures would be led by Ms Plibersek, who would co-ordinate efforts across the government.
The government would be talking with states and territories to seek their co-operation.
All states and territories have enacted legislation making female genital mutilation a criminal offence, with penalties in some states up to 20 years in jail.
Last month, the UN approved a draft resolution urging member states to take the necessary measures to protect women and girls from the practice and to end impunity.
This resolution is expected to be acted on by the UN General Assembly later this month.

Instead of discouraging it, shes going to end up promoting it for fear of being labelled islamophobic and losing those “marginal seats” full of imported welfare voters.
She will spend enough taxpayers money to fool the chattering female mildly concerned.
If we didn’t have an “islamic community” we would not need to spend 1 cent of tax payers money on this barbaric, misogynistic crime because civilised people know that only savages would have it in their culture. Gillard dares to call Tony Abbot a misogynist while welcoming, with open arms, males who believe that women have no more value than a farm animal. SHAME SHAME on all the pc mc lefty moral & cultural relativists who have forced the hard working Australian tax payer to go without to pay barbarians not to be barbarians
Sincw when do we need “data” before making something a crime?
Did we need “data” before making murder a crime?
Did we need “data” before making theft a crime?
So why do we need “data” about FGM?
It’s a crime, and that’s that.
Unless this is just an excuse to throw more money at Muslims…
Gilliard is just paying the jiyza, she will put the same pedophile muslims in charge of this phoney program.
Typical government criminal negligence! “There’s no money in solutions!”

OBVIOUSLY IT’S AGAINST THE ALREADY-EXISTING LAWS! THIS IS JUST AN EXCUSE TO AVOID HAVING TO APPLY THOSE LAWS!
