Moscow: Arrested Zebiba Boyz Well Read

The following video shows a raid by Russian police on the residence of a suspected Islamic terrorist. The footage is notable, among other reasons, because it includes a clear view of some of the titles on the suspects bookshelves.

Among them you will note Imam Nawawi, a classic Shafi’ite jurist whose writings have great standing. Nuh Ha Mim Keller — the commentator and translator of ’Umdat al-salik wa ’uddat al-nasik, or The reliance of the traveller and tools of the worshipper, the authoritative source on Sunni Islamic law commonly referred to as Reliance of the Traveller when cited in English — relies on him extensively.

Abd ar-Rahman ibn Nasir as-Sa’di is a modern tafsir commentator, so his works lack status. Tafsirs that go back centuries, like those of Ibn Kathir and others, have more weight.
