France: journalist Ivan Rioufol prosecuted under a 19th century press law for questioning Islam during a radio debate…

“The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam,” said Hussein Obama, and judging by how those who tell the truth about Islam and jihad are smeared, demonized and marginalized in the U.S. today, it won’t be much longer before trials of this kind come to the U.S. as well. (Robert Spencer)

Sharia in action in France:

  • Ivan Rioufol was summoned to court under France’s strict press laws
  • Objected to Collective Against Islamophobia In France poster campaign
  • Says law has been used to ‘penalise criticism and intimidate journalists’

Journalist faces criminal trial for questioning Islam during radio debate

France, under the imbecile mullah Hollande, is prosecuting a French journalist  under a 19th century press law for questioning Islam during a radio debate.

France’s 1881 Press Law was being used to ‘penalise criticism, intimidate journalists, censor the media’ and even ‘to reintroduce the offence of blasphemy’.  Now the imbecile Hollande is using it to prosecute those who question Islam:

The 1881 law was nominally meant to guarantee the ‘freedom of the press’ but in fact criminalised a range of journalistic behaviour.

So called ‘press offenses’ ranged from insulting the President of France, to defaming private citizens through comment.

Mr Rioufol said about the case’s first hearing: ‘The judge reminded me that he himself had no opportunity to verify the existence of the alleged offense, the procedure – Press Law 1881 -  leading automatically to court, where the case will be considered on its merits.’

Mr Rioufol said the law was ‘easily manipulated’ by those who wanted to persecute journalists.

A spokesman for CCIF said it had a duty to challenge ‘Islamophobia’ and the press laws were a logical way of challenging journalism it objected to.

‘Mr Rioufol will in court seek to prove that his words were true – one of the defences against defamation.’

  1. Let’s see. Now, how long did it take them find this law? It must of taken a few years of pouring over old French law to find such a statute that could be used as a hammer to silence opposition if they are reaching back to the 1800’s to find a law that fits their needs.

Ahh. It was not the ‘state’ at all but a private activist group called, called the Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF), who are clearly demanding that the French government punish critics.

I wonder if it was Qatari money that paid for the research to find this law?

It is such a dated and uncommon law that even the presiding judge has no working knowledge of this law being used against the journalist.

  2. Good thing this old law has the defense of Truth. So they dared us to prove islam is a crime-syndicate in public court, did they? This will soon backfire on them! Lets hope all the other journos will cover the trial!

Yes, how things can backfire on you.

Muslims in India have often sought shelter under Sections 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code (I.P.C.) for preventing every public discussion of their creed in general and of their prophet in particular.

1 Quite a few publications which examine critically the sayings and doings of the Prophet or other idolized personalities of Islam, have been proscribed (that is banned) under Section 95 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.P.C.) as a result of pressure exerted by vociferous, very often violent Muslim protests.

Little did they suspect that the same provisions of the law could be invoked for seeking a ban on their holy book, the Quran. (why cant that be tried in the West?)

The real issue raised by the Petition was not what Muslims believe about the Quran but what behaviour pattern the Quran inculcates in its votaries vis-à-vis the unbelievers.

Now here is the summary of the petition-but read the whole thing:

    2. The respondent (Government) is a public authority having in terms of Section 95 Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, read with Sections 153A and 295A Indian Penal Code, a public duty to forfeit to the Government every copy of a book

which incites violence, disturbs public tranquility, promotes, on ground of religion, feelings of enmity, hatred and ill-will between different religious communities and insults other religions or religious beliefs of other communities in India.

4 For example, (see the many examples given -Robert Spencer has pointed out many of these)

5 The book promotes religious enmity, hatred and ill-will between different religious communities in India.

For example, (see the many examples given- Robert Spencer has pointed out many of these)

6 The book insults other religions or religious beliefs of other communities in India.

For example, (see the many examples given -Robert Spencer has pointed out many of these)

7 While the Koran abounds with saying which incite violence, insult the religious beliefs of other communities and even exhort the Muslims to kill and murder non-Muslims, the problem is aggravated by yet another fact which has been true in the past and is universally true in our own times that unlike other communities Muslims are, and even fresh converts tend to become, highly orthodox people and follow the sayings of the book with a fanatical zeal with the result that whichever country has their sizable number amongst its population can never have peace on its soil.

(This was said in 1985 and it is still true today 2013!)

    8. The offending expressions contained in the Koran and quoted in paragraphs 4, 5 and 6 above are not so offensive in their translation in which they are so quoted as they are in the original verses in Arabic or in Urdu, the very sound of whose inimitable symphony not only sends the Muslims to tears and ecstasy but arouses in them the worst communal passions and religious fanaticism which have manifested themselves in murder, slaughter, loot, arson, rape and destruction or desecration of holy places in historical times as also in contemporary period not only in India but almost all over the world.

Yes the defense of truth is there in the Koran.I hope Ivan Rioufol uses this case for his own defense.
