'Global support' for sharia in Oz

Tiny minority of excremists update: Go Global, Think Local

Junaid Thorne, the ‘sheik’,  is one of  two brothers  with a mother of aboriginal descent and a Paki father who lives in Saudi Arabia. The mother has been demanding Australian government help to get her little jailbird out. In more ways than one we are reminded of Hussein Obama, and how he was groomed and planted in the U.S. to spread Islam.

While his brother is in jail in Saudi Arabia (because he wanted to overthrow the ruling princelings for not being Islamic enough) Junaid calls the believers to fight to overthrow the government of Australia and to establish sharia downunder.

MEMBERS of the Salafist Millatu Ibrahim group in Perth have received support from people in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Germany in their bid to establish sharia in Western Australia, according to its “sheik”. A Twitter account, believed to have been created by Perth man Junaid Thorne just months before his brother was convicted of terrorism-related offences in Saudi Arabia last year, also states that ASIO and the “infidel” government were “harassing” the group as early as last August.

It comes after Mr Thorne, who has given lectures in support of “mujaheddin” that were organised by Millatu Ibrahim, claimed the Perth group that counts him as its “sheik” had no links to overseas groups, including a banned German organisation of the same name. He did not return calls yesterday.

Nearly all of the posts on the page, followed by more than 800 people, are in Arabic. It features first-person accounts of Mr Thorne’s deportation from Saudi Arabia after his brother’s conviction and his return to Perth.

Translations reveal plans to establish sharia and an “institute” to educate people about the texts of extremist Salafist figures such as jailed Saudi sheik Suliman al-Elwan, who was the brother-in-law of an al-Qa’ida leader and whose work inspired jihadists around the world.

“This step came after I was deported from … Saudi Arabia and stayed here in Western Australia for some time, so I saw there was a pressing need for someone to spread the true faith,” a post dated August 22 reads.

“Co-ordination is also taking place with the Brothers branch in eastern Australia (Sydney-Melbourne) and also co-ordination is taking place with the rest of the world.”

It went on: “This work, thanks be to Allah, is in co-ordination with some brothers from … Saudi Arabia and the land of Syria … and Germany too.”

Mr Thorne’s name does not appear on the Twitter page. Its description says it is managed by pupils of “the sheik”, under his direct supervision. It provides links to the now-suspended Millatu Ibrahim Perth website.

Millatu Ibrahim Perth, which has more than 400 “likes” on its Facebook page, advertises lectures by Sheik Muhammed Sunni – as Mr Thorne is also known – following Friday prayers, usually delivered by another imam, Salmaan Parkar.

Mr Parkar told The Australian yesterday he was not involved, but had met some of the group’s members and did not believe they were connected to Millatu Ibrahim in Germany. It has been linked to terror plots and its followers have fought in Syria.

Anne Aly, a terrorism researcher at Perth’s Curtin University, believed the group had a small membership that was likely to grow due to Mr Thorne’s major “selling points”: he is of Aboriginal descent, he has been arrested by Saudi authorities and he has extensive knowledge of Salifism.
