TheÂ ring-leader of the Rochdale grooming gangÂ has failed in a bid to overturn his conviction.Â Shabir Ahmed was jailed for 19 years in May 2012 after being found guilty of aÂ string of child sex offences. . . continues to deny his guilt and on Wednesday took his case to the Court of Appeal in a bid to overturn his convictions.
Sir Brian Leveson , who considered Ahmed’s application with Mr Justice Keith and Mrs Justice Lang, rejected the arguments and upheld the convictions. He said he would give detailed reasons for the refusing permission to appeal in writing at a later date.
The failed appeal bid did not relate to Ahmed’s other sex offences – for which he is serving a concurrent 22-year sentence.
