ABC commies and Fairfax hacks circle the wagons for Bob Carr. Lets all hate Jews now and be merry:
Zion of the times as Carr gets clapped for belling the cat on those meddlesome Israelites
INSTEAD of wondering why just one lobby group was singled out, Aunty and Fairfax cheer.
Bob Carr on Lateline on Thursday:
WHAT I’ve done is to spell out how the extremely conservative instincts of the pro-Israel lobby in Melbourne was exercised through the then PM’s office. Certainly they enjoyed extraordinary influence. I had to resist it and my book tells the story of that resistance coming to a climax when there was a dispute on the floor of caucus.
Onya, Bob. The panel on ABC1’s ÂInsiders yesterday:
RECORDING of Australia-Israel and Jewish Affairs Council chairman Mark Leibler on Lateline on Thursday: If there’s a difference of opinion, the PM has to be controlled or influenced by someone. So the PM has to be wrong because she’s controlled by the Jewish lobby. How does the Jewish lobby control the PM? Through donations to the ALP and sending people to Israel. I mean, give me a break. I mean, would anyone sort of seriously accept that?
Host Barrie Cassidy: Mm, to a point. (Laughter) … Of course they’re an influential lobby group.
And supercilious snobbery that puts Whitlam’s egomania to shame. Are any of his vainglorious snippets tongue-in-cheek? Hardly. Condescending contemptuousness for peers has always been Bob Carr’s calling card. Larry Pickering–COMMENTS
Chris Uhlmann: They were trying to influence the PM and failed. If they’re as powerful as people said they’re a failure at what was very important to them. What it showed was Labor has shifted behind the pro-Palestinian lobby and it’s quite strong inside caucus at the moment.
Cassidy: Bob Carr’s position is mainstream when compared with the UK and the US …
Laura Tingle: The Israel lobby is as entitled as any other lobby to aggressively assert its opinion. It is also true that Labor has traditionally been exceptionally determined to appease that lobby without a doubt. …
Malcolm Farr: (For Carr) to be called a bigot after this particular process, it was just outrageous.
The Bolt Report yesterday:
JANET Albrechtsen: I doubt it is in the public interest at all (for Carr) to be suggesting, for example, that Jewish money is somehow corrupting Australian democracy. I think that is reckless.
Andrew Bolt: I think his argument on the Jewish lobby is dangerous. I think it’s a bit vile, to tell the truth. Isn’t the truth the opposite in fact, that if we’re going to talk about lobbies, ethnic or religious lobbies, that it is the Muslim lobby now, within Labor at least, that is more influential by far than the Jewish lobby?
Cassandra Wilkinson: The Labor Party is full of a lot of ethnic groups … traditionally any recent immigrant community has been a source of Âactivism for the Labor Party. The Jewish lobby in Labor is almost invisible. I worked on and off for Labor for 15 years, the Jewish lobby is polite, largely quiet. It has some friendships. It is certainly not powerful in the way it’s been misunderstood through some of these comments.
Albrechtsen: As you mentioned, the Grand Mufti of Australia wrote a letter through his political adviser wanting the Senate election of Paul Howes kiboshed. That’s influence. I don’t recall the Jewish lobby ever putting pressure on either side of politics to do that.
Bolt: That’s the point, you see. Because it’s so selective. Bob Carr mentions one lobby but not the other … He uses the word “unhealthy” and he says it’s the Jewish one.
Albrechtsen: I think it plays into really sinister stereotypes. Bob Carr, who wants to come across as sophisticated, as thoughtful, I don’t think his analysis here is sophisticated, I don’t think it’s thoughtful. He should have realised that someone, for example, like David Duke, the infamous anti-Semite in America, the former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, is now prominently featuring Bob Carr’s Âargument on his website. Bob Carr is not responsible for that but he should have known, he should have realised that what he was saying was reckless enough to be picked up by the anti-Semites.
