Iraq: ISIL orders female genital mutilation in Mosul

Nothing to do with Islam, as always:

“Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) (by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the bazr ‘clitoris’ [this is called khufaadh‘female circumcision’]).” — ‘Umdat al-Salik e4.3, translated by Mark Durie, The Third Choice, p. 64

FGMThe “fatwa” issued by the Sunni Muslim fighters would potentially affect 4 million women and girls, U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator in Iraq Jacqueline Badcock told reporters in Geneva by videolink from Arbil. “This is something very new for Iraq, particularly in this area, and is of grave concern and does need to be addressed,” she said. “This is not the will of Iraqi people, or the women of Iraq in these vulnerable areas covered by the terrorists,” she added. No one was immediately available for comment from Islamic State which has led an offensive through northern and western Iraq.

  1. Hello,

Unfortunately, the quote above is incomplete/misleading. Below is the actual quote from the authoritative English translate of Umdat As Salik printed in the US:-

e4.3 Circumcision is obligatory (0: for both men and women. For men it consists of removing the prepuce from the penis, and for women, removing the prepuce (Ar. bazr) of the clitoris (n: not the clitoris itself, as some mistakenly assert). (A: Hanbalis hold that circumcision of women is not obligatory but sunna, whileHanafis consider it a mere courtesy to the husband.)

    Thank you.

    1. No, you are misleading, Dany.

Reliance of the Traveller, a classical manual of Islamic sacred law in Arabic with facing English text, commentary and appendices edited and translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller (1994) re ‘circumcision’ we find the Arabic actually says –

“Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the clitoris (this is called HufaaD). “ (p59) (Shafi’I jurisprudence)

(“Circumcision” is the wrong word for it anyway, it is genital mutilation because if applied to a male, it would equal the removal of the penis’ head.)

(Note the English version is falsely translated as ‘prepuce ‘ of the clitoris!!)

      http://sheikyermami.com/female-genital-mutilation-is-part-of-the-sunna-of-the-prophet/

The Arabic word bazr does not mean “prepuce of the clitoris”, it means the clitoris itself (cf. the entry in the Arabic-English Dictionary). The deceptive translation by Nuh Hah Mim Keller, made for Western consumption, obscures the Shafi’i law, given by ’Umdat al-Salik, that circumcision of girls by excision of the clitoris is mandatory. This particular form of female circumcision is widely practiced in Egypt, where the Shafi’i school of Sunni law is followed. Note a comment by Sheikh ‘Abd al-Wakil Durubi in the English ‘version’ notes “Hanbalis hold that circumcision of women is not obligatory but sunna, while Hanafis consider it a mere courtesy to the husband.” (answering-Islam.org)

  2. Terrible. Poor women. Stomach-turning for sure.
Wonder who will be carrying out these orders? If its the jihadis roaming the streets imagine the rates of infection, deaths, and future pregnancy complications. Will they sew them up afterwards as is done in many countries? How will the jihadis exercise their right to rape their sex-slave war booty then? How will sharia loving women have sex whenever their masters want it, so as to keep the angels from cursing them all night, if there is pain and high chance of infection. Also, the HIV and STD rates will sky rocket.
Lets face it, Allah wants humans to suffer and die.

  3. I’ve gone back to the Arabic text after reading your reply. Actually, it was not a false translation. The translated version added the word ‘prepuce’ when translating the part about female circumcision. In the original Arabic text, I believe the word ‘prepuce’ corresponds to the Arabic word ‘jaldah’ or ‘jildah’ and is present when describing male circumcision but not when describing female circumcision.

I have no idea why this text is written like this. But I do know that in Shafii practice (as it is practiced where I am in South East Asia, where the majority of Muslims follow Shafii), the whole clitoris is not cut. The following is a first hand account, which might provide some insight:-

    1. I don’t know why I even bother to refute your lies. But here is what is done and how its done:

Do you get it now? It means clit off, regardless how many Mohammedan liars come here on this blog and lie their asses off and deny it.

  4. Wow! Graphic image!

What follows is just info on female anatomy. Not especially graphic. Do not scroll down, if you prefer not to read it.

That picture looks like the removal of the inner labia was underway. These are also called the “labia minora”, though they are not necessarily “minor” in size; their size varies greatly between women.

I assume that the procedure pictured included amputation of the tip of the clitoris, as well. Fortunately, much of the clitoris (female equivalent of the penis, including large inflatable “bulbs” that engorge on arousal, just as a penis does) is actually buried, running inward and parallel to the birth canal, which is the vagina. Part of it acts as the “G Spot” or “G Crest” during arousal. The protruding tip (which they try to amputate) is equivalent to the glans penis. There is much more, inside. Note that the “vagina” is just the birth canal. The whole complex structure “down there” should be called the “vulva”.

For those wanting a better understanding of the relevant anatomy, there is a very good NON PORNOGRAPHIC rather-diagrammatic set of images at: http://www.3dvulva.com/

The diagrammatic representations of various subsets of these “bits” can be rotated in 3D, to let your brain grasp their arrangement in the female body.

As I mentioned, the main part of the clitoris is internal, so women may be able to experience orgasms after FGM but, if the procedures inflicted on them were very traumatic, if they were left frightened about the rightness of female pleasure and/or if the injuries result in chronic pain, I do not like their chances of reaching orgasm through intercourse.
