European court upholds French ban on face veils
France was the first European country to pass a law banning burqa and niqab garments that conceal the face in public. Belgium later followed suit. (The Local runs the story too, here.)
It is the third time that the Strasbourg-based court has said that the ban does not violate their human rights.
The Strasbourg-based court ruled the general ban imposed by the government wasn’t justified on public-safety grounds, or to protect women’s rights. But it said France’s aim of improving social cohesion through the ban was legitimate.
“The court was…able to accept that the barrier raised against others by a veil concealing the face was perceived by the respondent state as breaching the right of others to live in a space of socialization which made living together easier,” it said.(Bolt)

The big soccer World Cup has stirred up diverse immigrants around the world to cheer on their home country’s team. In southern California last Monday for example,Â five Mexicans were arrested in Huntington ParkÂ for rioting after a soccer win.
But in France, theÂ violence expertsÂ of Islam went ballistic after the Algerian team beat South Korea. In fact, a kickball win threw them into a supremacist frenzy,Â repeating shoutsÂ of, “France is ours, France is ours!” as shown in the video below:
