John Robert Walsh March 7, 2010 at 12:12 pm: Of course I agree with you but I dont think that attacking the burka is anymore than just skirting around the issue like a prize fighter weighing up an unknown opponent to find his weaknesses, the whole sorry concept of Islam and pakinstani immigration and intergration which is where the bulk of this ugly religion and its politcal belief system stems , has in my view ( if any peaceful solution is to be found which looks increasingly unlikely) to be legistlated against as a matter of western goverment policy
Which outlaws Islam altogether as a terrorist creed and a political organisation ,it does not matter that it is also a religion it has proved to the world on countless occassions that it is a more of a politcal movement than the former and as such should be treated like any other organisation that is decidcated to the overtrow of the existing political system.
Trying to accomodate this creed and indeed even change it is impossible the British were in india for over 130 years and has a presence in the middle east for almost as long but exposing western culture and values on these people did not change thier views “one Bit” india had to be partitioned due to islamic protests that they would be outnumbered in any future indian goverment.
Islam is not compatable with any current western liberal democracy and should therefore be outlawed its imans deported, its moques closed, radical muslims deported immediatly.
I fear that the only way in the end to counter these insane islamics will end up being insane Right Wing policies.
Im afraid it is now too late for any milder measures the infection of this backward creed has inbedded itself to deep in our society and will only be extracted by th most extensive surgery

While I can understand the rationale for banning Qutb inspired separatist attire, such overt salafist symbols can work to our advantage as they do in Singapore and even Djakarta, where such Taliban desert attire alerts the police immediately. But clearly, Asian politicians have a better understanding of the political significance of Salafi trappings, as we in the West clearly don’t. Even our institutionalized “academics” have not taken the time to learn about the political significance of Islam and Islamism. I suspect that this is because legitimizing Islam and ridiculing Western civilization (as inherently racist and unjust) have become a favorite academic pastimes and thereby, a scholarly vacuum now exists where Islam is concerned. I am sure that Said’s “Orientalism” helped produce this vacuum, as well as a generation (or two) of boorish academics (and students) who astutely recognized the shallowness of the old saying ” sticks and stones may break my bones but names…” Yes – in the academic lexicon, “Orientalism” is indeed racism by another name.
It is therefore no surprise that much of Western “academia” knows so little about what it sympathetically opines. Hence, is it any wonder that feminist “academics” can hail the taliban as a “utopian movement” and the burkha it’s symbol “female empowerment?” When anthropology and history lecturers at universities have never heard of “salafism” or “wahhabism” and discussion of such is derided as neo -Nazism? When institutions of higher learning promote this void of inquiry, is it then any surprise that the burkah, salafi beards and white robes are passed off as enriching, multicultural contributions – rather like unleavened bread and hommus?
On the subject of feminism and Islam – Germaine Greer was questioned about the burkha – she worried about peripheral vision when driving a car.

There is nothing more to say. Having lived for 2 years in a Muslim country. I am sick and tired of how these women of how these women have to live.
Bringing there way of live to Western cultures just does not work.
I just do not understand why they want to live in the West and do not like our way of life. Than go and live in your oqwn country with your own way of life and your own religion.
These death threats against people in the West, just make me sick and tired of these people.

for this culture is so unique,for a Eastern Culture and that is were in should remain.
And should never be aloud to plaque are Towns,Cities &Villages. That has defiled a the whole of kingdom, by the back door. For we our now foreigners in our Own Lands.
Ingrid Vass May 30, 2011 at 8:45 am: Pat Condell always hits the nail on the head albeit tongue in cheek. Not only does he ram the truth into people, but he does it in such a clever, witty way. If he ran for Office, I would definitely vote him in although I admit he would need protection from the apologists and the Muslims who would like to see him dead. What he says in his videos is so true. He does not mince words and he does not care who he offends. He is his own person, a leader of men. What he says, is just plain “common sense”, but then again, “common sense” is not really that common that is why we have such weak Western leaders at the moment bending over backwards to placate Islam and allowing Islamists to do and say and threaten whenever they want, holding our democratic, free speech as an insult to their cock-eyed way of life. A life where there is no free speech or democracy, only hatred for the West. Islam is a huge threat to the Western World as we know it and if we don’t stand up to this threat, we will be literally consumed by it. Where are the leaders that will have the guts to stand up to this threat? Where are the voices of the people and the press? How much will people tolerate before taking up arms themselves? Have we lost our “freedom of speech? Apparently so, when it comes to criticising anything to do with Islam. Our politicians have double standards and that is so evident. Unfortunately we have seen a momentum of Islam throughout the world and if we don’t watch out and do something about this wave of terror in our midst, then we will all pay the price for our ignorant, weak stupidity. Well, those who practice Catholicism are called Catholics. Those who practice Judaism are referred to as being Jewish. Followers of Hinduism and Buddhism are called, respectively, Hindus and Buddhist. So why do we called people (for lack of an appropriate word) who follow Islam Muslims? Well, I don’t!

If you follow Islam you are Islamist and should be treated accordingly.

I’m a bleeding heart, San Francisco-residing liberal, and believe the Burka is an abomination. However, I also believe in the U.S. First Amendment. Muslim women should be permitted to wear the Burka in public, but non-muslims should not hesitate to politely and respectfully let them know that, by wearing this garmet, they’re offending us.

We should apply constant social pressure to encourage these women from donning such garments.

Could it be that you believe the lies of Muslims that they wear the burqa voluntarily to please allah or some such?

I would urge you to consider that many have already been murdered for not wearing it, so its not what you would call the ‘freedom to choose’.

You can choose to wear it or being killed for not following the divine commands.

From that perspective the freedom sack doesn’t look so exotic anymore.
