Conroy’s “unfettered powers” and the red undies we will all be wearing if he gets his way

Village idiot with ministerial powers morphs into megalomaniac:

“You’ll be wearing red underwear on your head. I have unfettered legal power.”

Thank heavens there are Ministers in the Gillard Government prepared to defend press freedom from the dangerously authoritarian ambitions of a Senator Steve Conroy:

CABINET ministers have failed to agree on landmark media reforms, including new powers to oversee the press, forcing another delay to controversial plans that could trigger a political fight before next year’s election.

The divisions in a cabinet meeting on Monday night fuelled speculation the government would have to postpone the full package of changes until ministers settled their differences over press regulation and ownership controls…

One option in Senator Conroy’s plan would give the minister the power to set the criteria to judge the performance of independent regulators such as the Australian Press Council. The minister would also decide if the regulator met the criteria. Industry executives have described Senator Conroy’s plan as a “first-time incursion by government into print media” that cannot be accepted.

Some Labor ministers still believe in a free press  (Andrew Bolt)

Is there anything more offensive than Conroy?

Mark Steyn said:

It’s a good basic axiom that if you take a quart of ice-cream and a quart of dog feces and mix ‘em together the result will taste more like the latter than the former.

That’s the problem with the  current  political cesspool in Canberra.  If you allow  a bunch of commie apparatchiks and Fabian redistributors to usurp government,  the danger is not only that they poison the wells, but that they will ruin the country for future generations.

Among JooLiar Gillard’s  bunch of looters and moochers  there are many like  the perfidious Stephen Conroy,  hardwired into the system of this corrupt, incompetent  joke of a government that sinks to new lows daily:

Conroy: Facebook hate page is ‘offensive’

There’s Roxon, who is shameless:

Roxon shames herself with a dog whistle

What a disgraceful attempt to dismiss an argument and to smear a man who has done more voluntary work for Aboriginal communities than any single member of the Gillard Government:

ATTORNEY-GENERAL Nicola Roxon has accused Tony Abbott of ‘’dog whistling’’ by pledging to repeal Australia’s racial vilification law.

Roxon should be ashamed of herself. How is it that someone who joins Labor to fight injustice ends up suppressing free speech and sliming good people as racists?

Vile stuff.

Here’s hope:

Censorship hides behind the great Conroy firewall

Piers Akerman

BIZARRE but true, Australia and China are allied in their determination to censor internet content. In totalitarian China, the plan is known as Green Dam. In Australia it should be called “freedom-be-damned”.    Continue reading ‘Censorship hides behind the great Conroy firewall’

Victoria sets loose its discrimination witchhunters

Andrew Bolt

Victoria’s equal opportunity police were just not getting enough complaints to work with. So this foolish Labor Government this week unleashed them to go invent some more, passing even more oppressive Equal Opportunity laws:

Deputy Premier and Attorney-General Rob Hulls welcomed the passage of the new reforms, saying they ensured Victorians benefited from equal opportunity laws fit for the 21st century…

He said the new laws would help stamp out entrenched and systemic discrimination against minority groups by giving the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission the ability to investigate persistent and systemic discrimination without first requiring a complaint to be made.

Let me show you what kind of divisive thing you may now get, using as an example a case from the commission’s own files:

(The Equal Opportunity Commission) hired May Helou, head of the Islamic Council of Victoria’s women’s support group. Her job, the EOC said, was to ensure “Arabic and Muslim communities are aware of their rights under anti-discrimination laws” and give “support to people wishing to make a complaint”.

The hounds had been set loose… In March 2002, Helou told Muslim converts at the ICV headquarters of a seminar on jihad to be run by Catch the Fire and asked them to go.

Said one later, she didn’t want the meeting to be held “without any Muslims present”. So when (pastors) Nalliah and Scot got up to speak at their seminar about jihad, they had in front of them 250 born-again Christians – and three people they did not know were Muslims.

Stephen Conroy, “Internet Villain of the Year”

Australia on internet watchlist with Iran, North Korea

SMH

Socialism is all about total control:

Now Conroy wants Google to filter YouTube in Australia

Coming to rule and to regulate…YOU!

A top media rights watchdog has listed Australia along with Iran and North Korea in a report on countries that pose a threat of internet censorship.

Paris-based media rights group Reporters Without Borders on Thursday put Australia and South Korea on its list of countries “under surveillance” in its “Internet Enemies” report.

But its not all bad news:

Big move by Google: GOOGLE Inc. executives are “99.9 percent” sure they will pull the plug on their Chinese search engine after talks with Chinese officials over censorship concerns have broken down. More here>>

The ‘dirty’ excuses:

Australia was listed for the government’s plan to block access to websites featuring material such as rape, drug use, bestiality and child sex abuse.

Critics say the plan is a misguided measure that will harm civil liberties by blocking a broader range of content than just nasty material.

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy has said he plans to introduce legislation by the end of next week that would require ISPs to block a blacklist of “refused classification” websites for all Australians.

The Conroy Con

These  people want to censor the internet for a reason:

Andrew Bolt:

COMMUNICATIONS Minister Stephen Conroy and the billionaire boss of the Seven Network, Kerry Stokes, went skiing together in Vail, Colorado – a month before the Senator handed a $250 million gift to the television industry…

and that’s not all:

Ugly is as Ugly Does

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd stayed with billionaire media mogul Kerry Stokes at his lavish mansion in Broome last weekend.

Mr Rudd and his wife Therese Rein spent the night of October 2 at the Channel Seven owner’s Cable Beach compound as part of a three-day trip to Western Australia…

Mr Rudd flew to Perth the following day for a Channel Seven charity telethon, where he donated $1.5million on behalf of the federal Government …

“C” like Carland and “Con” like Conroy

Yesterday’s laughable, ridiculous ABC -Q & A talkfest showed KRudds minister for censorship, Stephen Con-roy,  giggling like a schoolboy. No one was satisfied with Conroy dodging the questions, and his repeatedly mentioned nonsense about the “Russian mob” was met with laughter. From the  ABC transcript:  “I don’t actually know what’s on the list but I’m told by (indistinct) at ACMA it appears to be closer to the actual, legitimate list.”  But that is the intention behind this drive for internet censorship: Big Brother ueber alles. Be worried, be very, very worried.

“Many, many Muslim friends” he has, this Conroy, and Waleed Aly’s tilt, the hijabbed ‘Sociologist’ Susan Carland, denied that the Taliban practice the “real Islam”- while using the forum to bash Israel, the same old dissonant howler for every far left ABC-tard to sing along to, especially the sputtering Louise Adler who raved about “occupation”. Andrew Bolt was quickly sidelined when he mentioned the fake stories about Israeli’s bombing schools, shooting up ambulances etc. and is left wondering why we collectively engage in denial that jihad is the real Islam and that some infidel politicians like Conroy know their Islam better than practicing Muslims. Louise Adler couldn’t be more wrong…

In case you missed it or if you want to see it again, here it is…

*  STOP INTERNET CENSORSHIP IN AUSTRALIA

Meanwhile, at the UN cesspool:

GENEVA (AP) — The U.N.’s top human-rights body approved a proposal backed by Muslims nations Thursday urging the passage of laws around the world protecting religion from criticism.
The proposal by Pakistan had drawn strong criticism from free-speech campaigners and liberal democracies.

thought-police1

This isn’t really about criticizing religion. It’s about criticizing Islam.
Muslim nations have argued that religions, in particular Islam, must be shielded from criticism in the media and other areas of public life. They cited cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad as an example of unacceptable free speech.

“Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism,” the resolution said.
Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all (or nearly all) terrorists are Muslims.
