Muslims reject French Names?

What’s so difficult about that? Might be a good thing! If they don’t want to be French put ‘em on a bus back to Algeria:

For identification (or rather deportation purposes) it would be a lot easier to call them Muhammad and Abdullah.  Pierre or Marie do sound a bit too close for comfort. It helps to identify the enemy…

They are born in France and called Louis, Laurent or Marie but they want to become Abdel, Said or Rachida. Such requests from immigrants’ children for name changes are mounting in the French courts and worrying a state that lays store on melding a single national culture.

In a sign of a new assertiveness, children with families from Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco are reversing the old custom in which immigrants from the old colonies gave French names to their children.

Driven by a feeling that they do not belong to their Gallic Christian names, the applicants are meeting resistance from judges who are reluctant to endorse what they see as a rejection of France.

France has now joined the US and UK as pivotal points in the scheme of international jihad. Terrorist cells are active in the French Republic as recruitment increases.

France’s war with the jihadis is more intense than most Americans or even most Europeans would imagine.

With French troops engaging the Taliban in Afghanistan often coming under attack, jihadist cells have started targeting France as well as French presence in the Sahel, the north African Sahara. Now active jihadist cells are indeed deploying inside France just as they are inside many other Western European countries.

* Because the burqa is a symbol of “female submission that goes beyond its religious meaning”  it is “not unreasonable, for public security requirements … or the protection of civil liberties” to bar it from the publicly funded language classrooms.

PARIS — In secular France, it is illegal for hotel owners to turn away women wearing Muslim headscarves but OK to ban those wearing head-to-toe burqas from state-sponsored French language classes.

Two recent decisions have demonstrated how tough and touchy it is to legislate religious expression in a country that has a long-standing separation between church and state — and an increasingly multicultural society with a growing Muslim population.

A French schoolgirl is accompanied by her veiled mother at the gate of a school in the Paris suburb Aubervillers in September 2004. Such a headscarf would be acceptable under a new French rule because it is not a burqa covering the body and face.

A French police officer was shot and wounded during clashes with youths that broke out after a teenager died while fleeing police, authorities said Tuesday.

The officer appeared to have been shot in the leg with a hunting rifle, said the police prefecture in Romans-sur-Isere, a southeastern town located 60 miles from Lyon in the Rhone Valley on the edge of the Alps. The officer’s life was not in danger. Dents from bullets and buckshot were also found in police vehicles nearby.

The following statement was received by Islamophobie.net from a woman who tried to enter a BNP bank branch and was refused on account of her headscarf. Together with the story below they sees it as a sign of Islamophobia in France. 

The woman says that she came to the BNP branch at the Paris suburb of Fontenay-aux-Roses on Sept. 23rd, 2008 at 9:15am to perform operations in her bank account. She wore a scarf on her head which covered her hair but left her face visible. She entered the door by pressing the green button, and then pressed the button to open the second door in order to enter. Here, one of the employees told her via loudspeaker that for security reasons she must remove her veil to enter.”

Ten French soldiers killed by Taliban fighters last month in Afghanistan were woefully ill-equipped, according to a report citing a classified Nato document.

There are nearly 7,000 French and German troops in Afghanistan [EPA]

The “secret” file quoted by a Canadian newspaper said that the French troops ambushed on Aug 18 in a valley east of Kabul did not have enough bullets, radios and other equipment to sustain them through two days of fighting.

A picture of a Taleban fighter in the uniform of a dead French soldier drew anger in France yesterday as the army came under new fire over its conduct in an ambush that killed ten paratroopers in Afghanistan last month.

Twenty-three soldiers were injured in the Taleban attack that killed ten of their colleagues and has fuelled calls for French forces to leave Afghanistan

Paris Match magazine was condemned by politicians, the military and soldiers’ families for publishing a spread of Taleban posing with their French trophies from the battle, east of Kabul, on August 18. These included Famas assault rifles, helmets, body armour, walkie-talkies and a wristwatch that the Taleban asked the magazine to return to the family of the soldier who had owned it.
