Muslim students at Arkansas State University tried to prevent a critic of Islamic sharia law from speaking as part of a campus lecture series.

Nonie Darwish, Egyptian-born author of Now They Call Me Infidel, spoke Wednesday at the university in Jonesboro, Arkansas, but only after the chairman of the student Lecture-Concert Series read a protest statement by the president of the ASU Muslim Student Association (MSA). In the decade since the 9/11 terror attacks, Darwish has gained international prominence as an outspoken critic of Islamic culture. She is director of Former Muslims United.

More than 100 Musliim students attended Darwish’s lecture, according to Emily Alexander of the ASU Herald, and walked out en masse midway through, following the example of MSA president Saddique Abobucker.

In a letter sent to university administrators Monday, Abobucker and other MSA officers called Darwish a “hate monger,” warned that her lecture would lead to “bullying of Muslim students on campus,” and said that her lecture would be tantamount to “inciting to riot.” The MSA letter “urged the administration and legal department of ASU to stop Darwish from speaking here.”

Islamic extremism has made headlines in Arkansas the past two years after Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, a 26-year-old American-born Muslim convert, shot two soldiers at a military recruiting office in Little Rock in May 2009. Muhammad, who reportedly told police he shot the soldiers to protest what the U.S. military “had done to Muslims in the past,” wassentenced to life in prison July 25 this year.

This simply can’t be allowed to happen. This Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) cannot be allowed to exert its influence or control of ICANN. Every freedom loving patriot no matter what country you hail from or political persuasion you belong to, should be worried over this development. The OIC has already been highly successful in subverting the UN General Assembly, and is vigorously pursuing an agenda to get criticism of Islam criminalized the world over, now its got its sights on this innocuous sounding organization that’s soon to become under the auspices of international, multilateral control.

Here is what the law fare project has to say about it:

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the entity responsible for assigning domain names on the Internet, and was established as a non-profit corporation based in California during the Clinton administration so that the Internet’s development would be coordinated by a single entity.

ICANN works “in particular to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Internet’s unique identifier systems.”[1] As part of this mission, ICANN approves Domain Name Registrars, which are organizations that register specific domain names, and assigns IP addresses, the numerical codes by which computers actually connect to each other via the Internet.

From November 25, 1998 until September 30, 2009, ICANN was overseen by the U.S. Commerce Department. The Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Commerce and ICANN was allowed to expire, to be replaced by international, multilateral control.

The Lawfare Project report goes on further to note that the OIC’s Secretary-General, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu is aggressively working to ensure that this entity will work closely with the OIC’s Islamophobia Observatory, in order to combat anti-Islamic content on the net.

14) OIC-CERT’s Steering Committee consists of the following countries: Tunisia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.[8]

15) On October 28, 2010, at OIC-CERT’s Second Annual General Meeting, OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu noted the following as a core mission of OIC-CERT: “In view of the phenomena of discrimination, stereotyping and defamation targeting Muslims and their religion known as ‘Islamophobia,’ we invite the OIC-CERT to use its available professional and technical resources (in line with its objectives stated in terms of reference) in order to cooperate with the ‘OIC Islamophobia Observatory’ to identify the best ways and means including technical, administrative and legal tools to combat anti-Islamic contents on the internet.“[9] This issue bears more directly on the ongoing debate regarding ‘public morality’ objections and will be considered more fully in Point 2 below.

On thing has to be said about the OIC, they are relentless, and they have to be stopped. The very issue of free speech is at stake here, which means the freedom to criticize religion and any ideology, that includes Islam. The gauntlet has been thrown. KGS

Obama’s Department of Justice is still trying to bring the 911 mastermind to New York City for a civilian trial. And these examples are just the tip of the iceberg. The prosecution of Sobolevskiy is by far the worst, and Judge David G. Bernthal, referring to the defendant’s crime as “an act of terror,” is in need of immediate removal. Nuts.

I do not advocate for violence or ugly email missives, but a year in jail for them? This is something altogether different. The Department of Justice is enforcing sharia and abandoning rule of law.

Elisabeth’s Voice: An Appeal To Save Free Speech

A Call to Mobilize the  Blogosphere in Support of Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff

We, the undersigned — consisting of four European blogs, one Canadian blog, and one American blog — have written this post jointly as a public call for our American colleagues to take up the cause of the Austrian feminist and anti-jihad activist Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff.

Geert Wilders is well-known to most American conservative and libertarian bloggers, but Elisabeth’s case is not so prominent. Like Mr. Wilders, she faces trial for reporting factual information about Islam. Her “crime” was to conduct public seminars in which she described Islamic doctrine, quoted from the Koran, and explained to her listeners what she considers the dangers of Islam.

Like Mr. Wilders, Elisabeth has been charged with “hate speech” for her words. Unlike Mr. Wilders, however, Elisabeth is a private citizen, a wife, and the mother of a small child. She lacks the major resources necessary to defend herself against the well-funded organs of the state which seek to persecute her.

Elisabeth will go on trial in Vienna on November 23rd, in what is clearly a political action intended to silence anyone who dissents against the prevailing multicultural orthodoxy.

We, her European and North American supporters, have formedElisabeth’s Voice to ensure that she is not silenced. By appealing for financial aid, we hope to ensure that her defense is well-funded. By appealing for publicity, we hope to ensure that her case is well-known, not just in Austria and the rest of Europe, but across the entire Western world.

Americans may think that Elisabeth’s is a uniquely European plight, and has nothing to do with them. But make no mistake about it: the same repression is on its way to the United States of America. As the recent cases of Molly Norris, Juan Williams, and Derek Fenton demonstrate, free speech may already be taken away by non-juridical means. Dissent is even now being silenced in schools and on college campuses, and politically incorrect expression is cause for dismissal from both public and private employment.

The same types of “hate speech” laws that were used against Elisabeth in Austria are being prepared for the United States through the work of the United Nations. At the initiative of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the UN is on the verge of requiring all member states to pass laws criminalizing “the defamation of religions, including Islam.”

Your president, Barack Hussein Obama, has indicated his support for the UN’s proposed resolution. Time is running out for all of us. If we don’t stand up now for people like Geert Wilders, Ezra Levant, Mark Steyn, and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, there will be no one to stand up for us later, when our turn comes.

The European Union, which includes Austria, is a corrupt and undemocratic superstate with totalitarian aspirations. The oligarchy running it has determined that the millions of Muslim immigrants now living in Europe — and the millions more the EU plans to bring in — are necessary to secure the power base for the unaccountable bureaucrats who now oversee what passes for European governance.

Hence their need to silence people like Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff who speak out against mass immigration and the dangers of Islamization. To help maintain the population in a state of sheep-like passivity, Elisabeth must be silenced.

But Elisabeth will not be silenced.

The Austrian court may take away Elisabeth’s voice, but while we yet have our own, we will speak for her.

Centre refuses to host Steyn lecture on free speech

A man who talks about free speech and Islam gets banned from talking at a civic auditorium out of fear of angering muslims. You can’t make this stuff up, I wonder if the irony is lost on the managers of the auditorium or on muslims?

The Guardian (of Muslims) weighs in: University under fire for plans to honour New Republic’s Martin Peretz who wrote that ‘Muslim life is cheap’

Peretz has made two apologies, saying he was wrong to say Muslims should be stripped of their free speech rights, but defended his assertion that Muslim life is cheap. “This is a statement of fact, not value,” he said

Among the critics is Stephen Walt, a professor of international affairs at Harvard, who described Peretz’s views as hateful. (Sitting in a glass house, one should not….Walt is of course one of the two anti-Semites of Mearsheimer & Walt notoriety, who smeared “The Israel Lobby”  beyond recognition in their infamous report back in 2006)

“If you had said this about blacks, Jews or Catholics, it would be a scandal,” he told the Boston Globe. (Muslims say worse things about blacks, Jews and Catholics, and its never a scandal…)

Some of Peretz’s critics say he has a history of expressing views that would draw stinging criticism from the mainstream press if they were not about Muslims. In March, Peretz admitted to a prejudice against Arabs.

“Frankly, I couldn’t quite imagine any venture requiring trust with Arabs turning out especially well. This is, you will say, my prejudice. But some prejudices are built on real facts, and history generally proves me right,” he wrote in the New Republic.

Peretz, who is a strident supporter of Israel, has said in conversation that he believes Palestinians are unfit to have their own country and suggested that Arabs are genetically violent.

Although Peretz was criticised in a New York Times column after his recent comments, critics have contrasted the reticence of the American media over his views with the barrage of condemnation for the journalist Helen Thomas, after she said Israel’s Jewish population should “go home” to Germany, Poland or the US.

Peretz was among her severest critics, calling Thomas wicked and a Jew-hater.

As its annual “defamation of religion” resolution loses ground at the United Nations after a decade of successes, the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is urging its members to close ranks on an issue, which it calls vital for the defense of Islam.

Foreign ministers from the 56 mostly Muslim-majority countries that make up the OIC plan to discuss the issue when they hold their 2010 session in the Tajikistan capital of Dushanbe next month.

In the Saudi city of Jeddah this week, the Islamic bloc’s powerful secretary-general, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, told senior officials preparing for the Dushanbe meeting that he hoped OIC member states would “lend particular attention” to the religious defamation issue.

He voiced dismay about the declining support for the resolutions, and the fact that some countries, which he did not identify, were “thinking of reconsidering the subject.”

“I wish to affirm that the member states’ commitment to support the OIC’s stand vis-a-vis this vote is of vital weight and should not be downplayed,” Ihsanoglu said. “For any laxity in this connection would mean the loss of a political and legal mainstay in the defense of our faith, our values and our sanctities.”

Ihsanoglu’s comments came after the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva late last month once again passed the OIC-drafted resolution on “combating defamation of religions,” but by a relatively slim margin.

Only 20 members of the 47-nation HRC voted in favor, while 17 opposed the measure and eight abstained. (Two were absent.)

It was the worst showing for the annual resolution since the OIC first introduced it at the HRC’s predecessor, the U.N. Commission on Human Rights, in 1999.

Apart from the first two years, when the measure was adopted without a vote, the resolution has always passed easily, in a vote that showed a clear split between the Islamic bloc and its allies in the developing world on one hand, and mostly Western democracies on the other (see graphshowing annual vote results since 2001).

Since the HRC began operating in 2006, its composition has also been a factor – more than half the 47 seats are reserved for African and Asian nations, and OIC members have held around one-third of the total. Supported by perennial allies like China, Russia, Cuba and South Africa, the OIC has therefore had no difficulty getting the measures passed.

A religious defamation resolution has also been adopted by the full membership of the world body, the U.N. General Assembly in New York, each year since 2005.

In both Geneva and New York, however, the OIC has seen its sizeable majority decline in recent years, coinciding with stepped-up opposition by Western governments and energetic lobbying by legal, religious freedom, freedom of expression and humanist advocacy groups.

The most visible trend has been countries in Latin America, Africa and the Pacific moving from supporting the resolutions to abstaining, and in some cases – mostly in Latin America – moving from abstaining to opposing the measures.

Of particular interest has been a small number of African OIC members – Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Benin – which have gone against their own organization’s initiative, abstaining rather than voting for the resolution.

Also noteworthy was Zambia’s decision to vote against the resolution at the HRC last month. It is believed to be the first time an African country has done so.

‘Deep concern over future of relations with West’

Opponents argue that the concept of defamation applies to individuals, not the religions to which they may adhere. They claim the resolutions, although non-binding, are designed to shield Islam from criticism, with the effect of undermining freedom of expression and jeopardizing the rights of religious minorities and of Muslims wishing to convert to other faiths.

The OIC asserts that the resolutions are needed to combat “Islamophobia,” a phenomenon it says has worsened since Islamic terrorists attacked the U.S. in 2001.

Defamation of religion resolutions typically cite counter-terrorism policies such as the profiling of Muslims, media allegations of links between Islam and terrorism, and the targeting of religious symbols – a reference, inter alia, to a Danish newspaper’s publication in 2005 of cartoons satirizing Mohammed.

The OIC has also highlighted last November’s Swiss referendum banning the building of minarets in that country as a fresh manifestation of the Islamophobia underlining the need for the resolutions.

In his address to the OIC officials in Jeddah, Ihsanoglu said the Swiss decision showed that Islamophobia has “now moved up from the level of individual practice or articles in the press to that of legislations and constitutions.”

As such, it prompted “deep concern over the future of Islamic relations with the West,” he added.

The OIC draws together 56 countries, most but not all with Muslim majorities, predominantly in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Although 40 years old, the bloc has become more visible and active at the U.N. in recent years. A 1995 “ten-year program of action” called on member states to coordinate positions, and accordingly they invariably vote as a bloc. Members also generally support each other in votes for leadership positions in international bodies.

The draft proposed that signatories ‘use culturally sensitive language,’ educate readers to think ‘interculturally’ and devote news attention to ‘the challenges of integration.’ She suggested leading editors meet in August to publicly sign the charter.

When Aygül Özkan was appointed by former Prime Minister Christian Wulff to become the first Muslim minister in Germany, there was doubt whether the contradiction between Islamic teachings and our Basic Law could always be regulated in the secular sense. For the first time in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany this minister would like to shake down the freedom of the press granted in the Basic Law. Media are to commit themselves officially to only report to certain topics in a sense specified first and with arranged language. Guess  which topics this could be….?
