"Honor Killing Nothing To Do With Islam" Update

* Because Christians and Jews do it all the time, Buddhists do it too and Hindus and Methodists suttee their wives and daughters, right? That’s why nobody mentions a word about Islam in this article from AFC

Tim Blair

A delicate report on a brutal subject, from Agence France-Presse:

British police will offer new identities to victims of so-called “honour” violence in a bid to combat the crime that kills one person a month.

Sara & Amina Said

London’s Metropolitan Police said up to a dozen people were murdered annually in honour violence – defined by the police as crimes committed in a bid to protect family or communal honour.

Officers estimate a further 500 are forcibly married and then raped, attacked or falsely imprisoned.

Do tell us, Agence France-Presse; who is responsible for these terrible acts?

Typically, women are the victims of honour violence, which has been linked to certain interpretations of religious and cultural norms.

* Speaking of modern, moderate Jordan, here is yet another honor killing.

Muslim sets girl alight for wearing lipstick

* Nothing to do with Islam, of course! Ask Irfan Yusuf, ‘White Ribbon Ambassador’- our very own indefatigable champion of human rights and equality for women, right Yusuf?  Your comment would be most appreciated!

With thanx to Darrin:

An 11-year-old girl has been set on fire by a relative in India’s northern city of Jaipur for wearing lipstick and being inappropriately dressed.

Police say the girl suffered burns over 90 per cent of her body and her chances of survival are bleak.

* Al-Qaeda and child porn

* Teenage Afghan girl enslaved and sexually abused… in the U.S.

They’ve arrested her great uncle who allegedly poured kerosene on the girl and set her alight yesterday.

Investigators say the 55-year-old man, a conservative Muslim, told the police he was enraged at the girl wearing lipstick and being scantily dressed.

Honor Killing Updates

Nothing to do with Islam, of course! Islam ‘elevates’ women:

*  Son strangles mother and later chops her body in pieces on suspicion of “bad character”

*  Jordan: father repeatedly stabs daughter, crushes her head with rock

*  Pakistan: 90 honor killings reported in first quarter of 2008

*  Afghanistan: Self-immolation on the rise among women/because of the ‘glass ceiling’, no doubt!

* ‘Man’ cuts off wife’s foot in Pakistan

*  Teacher’s ears cut off as ‘punishment’

*  Pregnant girl burnt alive by husband

Pakistani lawmaker on honor killing: "These are centuries-old traditions, and I will continue to defend them"

* Just when they  Yusuf almost got us to believe that honor killing is a pre-Islamic practice that has nothing to do with Islam and, anyway: Christians do it, Hindus do it, Buddhists do it, even the Babboons do it…! some creepy ‘lawmaker’ crawles out from under his rock and gives the whole game away!

With thanks to DW

More on this story. And as I noted there, these are more than just tribal traditions. A manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).

* Pakistan: five women buried alive in name of honour

* Women ‘vow to raise kids for holy war’

In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

Why does this stipulation appear in a manual of Islamic law if this has nothing to do with Islam? I’m glad that some Pakistani lawmakers in this AP story expressed horror at what Israr Ullah Zehri said, but they will need to confront the tolerance for this practice in Islamic law if they ever hope to end it.

'Honor killing has nothing to do with Islam'- right?

Remember Amina and Sarah

A manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).

In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.

*  Furthermore, if you kill your father, mother, sister or brother for leaving Islam, you are carrying out the will of Allah.

Fox discovers honor killings

* UN discovers honor killings also, assigns task to Dr.YakinErturk, UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against women. A bit like trusting Mohammed ElBaradei with keeping an eye on nuclear proliferation in Islamic countries…

Here’s Part 1 of 6:

* The credit for getting this horrific (Islamic) murder-practice out and into the mainstream media goes to Pamela Geller, who has done fabulous work to expose the killers and makes sure the victims are not forgotten.

*   Btw: its not ‘tribal’ as Fox claims. Just like FGM it is a practice that  is very Islamic, because women are property.

Brazil: Mohammed kills and chops up his British girlfriend, takes pictures:

The boyfriend of the 17-year-old British girl whose body was found in a suitcase has reportedly told a Brazilian newspaper that chopping up the teenager was ‘just like cutting beef.’
