AN investigation will be held into a brawl involving about 50 unaccompanied Afghan asylum-seeker boys at a Melbourne immigration detention centre.

Department of Immigration spokesman Sandi Logan said the boys were unaccompanied minors and were yesterday involved in “a number of separate scuffles in the dining room” of the Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation centre in Broadmeadows, in Melbourne’s west.

The brawl erupted after 98 unaccompanied minors were transferred from Australia’s Christmas Island detention centre to the Melbourne centre over the weekend.

Seven of the boys, aged about 15-18, were taken to hospital, most with cuts and bruises and one with a possibly fractured nose.

One boy remains in hospital, with the rest having been returned to the detention centre.

Mr Logan said furniture and windows in the dining room were also damaged during the brawl, which broke out before 8pm, but no staff were injured.

“Victoria Police were called and assisted to restore order in about 30 minutes, with the individuals returned to their rooms,” Mr Logan said.

“The centre is now calm and has been since last night.”

A department spokesman said there were currently 136 people being held at the centre.

Mr Logan said detention services providers would investigate the incident and provide a full report.

At first blush, Julia Gillard’s volte-face over immigration would seem to be as unlikely as Osama bin Laden singing the Star Spangled Banner or Richard Dawkins taking holy orders.

Here is a politician with a solid pedigree on the ‘anti-racist’ Left rejecting former prime minister Kevin Rudd’s call for a ‘Big Australia’ formed by continuing large-scale immigration.

Instead, Gillard has said she understands the anxieties of folk in western Sydney, western Melbourne or the Gold Coast growth corridor in Queensland.

As for the boats of asylum-seekers, Gillard has made clear she wants to be even more effective in stopping them in order to protect ‘our sanctuary’ and ‘the Australian way’.

In other words, Gillard is signalling that she sympathises with the concern that large-scale immigration and multiculturalism are threatening Australia’s core values and identity, a position the Left denounces as bigotry.

Consequently, Gillard’s remarks have produced predictable cries of ‘racism’ and ‘dog-whistling’. So why has the new Labor leader ventured into this particular cultural minefield?

The explanation is that something tumultuous is happening, not just in Australia but in Britain too, something so unusual that people are stumbling around in a state of stunned disorientation.

It is that politicians are at last actually taking seriously what their electorates are saying to them about immigration and multiculturalism. This is that they will no longer put up with a policy which threatens to destroy their country’s values and way of life, and will vote accordingly.

In Britain even more than in Australia — where at least John Howard or Tony Abbott have tackled such issues — race and culture have long been totally taboo. No debate has been possible about whether mass immigration might be a bad thing for communities or the country as a whole.

Even to question this has been to invite instant denunciation as a racist from the dominant left-wing intelligentsia, for whom anti-racism has long been their signature creed.

The Conservative leader and now Prime Minister, David Cameron, who is driven by the need to bury the label of “the nasty party” that was hung round the Tories’ neck, was accordingly too nervous even to mention immigration during the recent election campaign, even though it was at the very top of the list of voters’ concerns.

But Cameron didn’t win the election, and is now forced to govern in a coalition with the left-wing LibDems. His failure to talk about immigration is said to be the reason why he failed to win an election that was thought impossible for him to lose.

Nothing concentrates the political mind so well as the spectre of defeat. And so now in both Britain and Australia a political sea change is taking place.

In both countries, voters are stating unequivocally that they have seen through all the spin about multiculturalism, all the false arguments about the alleged economic advantages of mass immigration, all the bullying and name-calling about racism.

They look at their neighbourhoods and realise that their culture and national identity are being replaced by something entirely new. No one has ever asked them for their consent to this. And they are simply not going to take it any more.

In Britain, the public services are buckling under the sheer weight of the numbers coming into the country.

More explosive is the cultural transformation, particularly by the large influx and expansion of Muslims who, rather than accommodating themselves to British society, expect it to accommodate itself to them.

So Britain is being steadily Islamised, with more than 1700 mosques, the development of a parallel jurisdiction of sharia law in Muslim enclaves, banks offering sharia financing, extremists given free rein on campuses and relentless pressure to suppress and censor any criticism of Islam or the Muslim community.

In parts of Australia too there are similar worries about the growth of the Muslim community, the pressure not to criticise any aggression it may display and the simultaneous onslaught upon Australian values by the likes of [Muslim cleric] Sheik Hilaly.

Listening to such concerns pays electoral dividends, as shown by Abbott, who has made such headway by defending the traditional values and national integrity of Australia as an entirely justifiable and moral position.

So Gillard is now humming the same tune, saying she sympathises with voters’ desire for strong management of Australia’s borders, and pledging ’sustainable population’ increase with the ‘right kind of immigrant’.

A similar political convulsion is occurring in Britain. The Conservative Home Secretary, Theresa May, has promised to put a cap on immigration, a pledge that was in the Conservative manifesto but rarely mentioned during the election campaign.

Even more striking is the abrupt change of tune among several contenders for the leadership of the defeated British Labour Party. While front-runner David Miliband is sticking with its open-door immigration policy, his younger brother Ed has said ‘we never had an answer for the people who were worried about it’.

Former Labour health secretary Andy Burnham claims the party has been ‘in denial’ about the issue, which was ‘the biggest doorstep issue in constituencies where Labour lost’.

Most jaw-dropping of all, former education secretary and hard man of the Left Ed Balls has said high levels of immigration under Labour had affected the pay and conditions of ‘too many people’, and has called for better protection for British workers if the European Union expands any further.

Such death-bed conversions are of course driven by cynical political considerations. Nevertheless, they are levering open an ideological fixation which has not just sunk democratic politics into disrepute but driven culture and morality in both Britain and Australia off the rails altogether.

For the doctrines of anti-racism and multiculturalism have not ended intolerance, prejudice or discrimination. They have instead institutionalised reverse discrimination and up-ended truth, morality and justice.

Following the Marxist doctrine that prejudice is restricted to those with power, they have given Third-World ethnic minorities special protection from rules or conventions that apply to everyone else.

They have also served to falsify the history of both Britain and Australia in the minds of countless thousands of young people, who are taught propaganda based on a false or distorted story of national oppression and shame.

Multiculturalism threatens to undermine societies, by removing the cultural glue that binds all citizens together and balkanising the country into interest groups fighting for supremacy.

Once upon a time, the need to have strong borders and endorse a historic cultural identity were axiomatic elements of citizenship and national survival.

But mass immigration and multiculturalism are predicated on what is called ‘transnationalism’, the belief that the nation is the source of all the ills of the world and must be replaced by supranational institutions and cultural identities.

This is precisely what — at a visceral level — the people of both Australia and Britain understand and are refusing to accept.

And at last, in both Australia and Britain, politicians are being forced to listen.

Authorities have intercepted a suspected asylum seeker boat in waters off Australia’s northwest coast… Initial indications suggest there are 39 asylum seekers and two crew aboard the boat.

I still hear excuses (as on ABC 774 yesterday) that the sudden influx is due largely to the war in Sri Lanka – a war that actually started in 1983 and ended a year ago.  I’d suggest the graph shows that Rudd’s policies are in fact the more important explanation. not least because most asylum seekers are not Sri Lankan at all.

A boat carrying asylum seekers has been intercepted in Australian waters – the second in the past 24 hours. The Federal Government says 22 people and four crew were on board.

The Tamil boat people have won:

After a month of careful negotiations, about 16 of 78 Sri Lankan asylum seekers have left the Oceanic Viking and are now being transported by ferry to a port in Tanjung Pinang.

They’ve got a great deal:

The Federal Government has promised them their asylum claims will take no longer than three months to be processed. After that, they could expect to be resettled in Australia if their asylum claims are supported by the UNHCR… The Government offered quick resettlement and other benefits such as English language classes and financial assistance if the asylum seekers left the Oceanic Viking and go to the detention centre on the Indonesian Island of Bintan.

I doubt this is all they were offered, if my witness heard right.

Which makes a liar of Kevin Rudd:

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has denied that the 78 asylum seekers refusing to leave the Oceanic Viking are receiving special treatment from the Government….

Speaking from India, Mr Rudd denied the deal meant the group would be processed quicker than those being held at Christmas Island. “This is consistent with the overall approach we adopt to processing of individuals at any centre around the world,” he told Fairfax Radio…

“Any assumption that any individual so processed will automatically end up in Australia is wrong,” he said.

And a fool of Immigration Minister Chris Evans, as he tries desperately to avoid exposing Rudd’s lies – only to fail. You need extended excerpts to appreciate just how ludicrous and humiliating are Evans’ attempt to cover for Rudd’s lies:

(Sky News’ DAVID) SPEERS: Alright, but the offer that has been made to them by the Australian Government as the Prime Minister confirmed today is that they will be resettled within six to twelve weeks. Now that’s not just processed but resettled were Kevin Rudd’s words, so have you, has the Government discussed with other countries where they might be resettled or is the reality that Australia will take the bulk?

EVANS: Look the reality is that we’ve got the normal UNHCR resettlement processes. They will be assessed as to whether or not they’re refugees. Once that happens the UNHCR then if you like recommends them or refers them to settlement countries. We have traditionally taken the bulk out of Indonesia …

SPEERS: But people who are found to be refugees in Indonesia aren’t often resettled in a twelve-week, so to make this guarantee, to make this offer, there must be some sort of surety that either Australia or other countries are going to take them that quickly.

EVANS: Sure, look we’ve had discussions with other countries but we’ve been negotiating with the UNHCR and Indonesia. What we did is we put in writing, we codified what we think the arrangements that we could deliver on were…

SPEERS: So if Canada or New Zealand or other countries can’t be found within twelve weeks, if they come off the boat, Australia presumably will take them to meet that guarantee?

EVANS: Well as I say to you it will depend in part on who the UNHCR wants to refer people to… All we’ve done is lay out for them what the timeframes will be.

SPEERS: But you say the normal processes are applying here and you’re obviously keen to play down suggestions this is a special deal, but you know that people in detention in Indonesia don’t get processed usually that fast, and people who are found to be refugees aren’t resettled that fast. This is special treatment isn’t it?

EVANS: No, what we’ve done is since we came into government we’ve actually been working with the Indonesians to deal with their protracted caseload….

SPEERS: Are you extending this offer to other asylum seekers in Indonesia? There’s another sixty or seventy-odd in the Tanjung Pinang detention centre. Are they being told they’ve got the same process here or is this just for those on board the Oceanic Viking?

EVANS: No they’ve been going through the UNHCR processes and assessment of those people inside that detention centre, and the UNHCR may or may not refer them to us or other countries depending on those assessments. The timelines are not firm in any of this…

SPEERS: Clearly the key here is enticing them to get off the boat with the offer of resettling them within 12 weeks and that is not something…that is not a timeframe you’re offering others in detention in Indonesia.

EVANS:

Well we have 90 day timeframe for processing on Christmas Island.  We don’t always meet it…

So so sum up Evans’ admissions: the People on the Oceanic Viking are getting a deal of just six to 12 weeks resettlement that is not being offered to other asylum seekers in Indonesia, and which beats the 90-day timeframe for simply processing the asylum applications of those in Christmas Island. And he and Rudd have the sheer effrontery to calim this is no “special deal”.

These people can’t even lie competently.

If we’re saving their lives, that’s most of the argument right there. No question. But let’s not pretend there’s no cost in bringing in people who are often from very different cultures and educational standards:

Refugees are creating a soaring welfare headache for taxpayers with the total annual cost of Centrelink benefits up nearly 40 per cent to an estimated $628 million in just two years.

The hypocrisy is astonishing. What Kevin Rudd promised two years ago:

The Pacific Solution is just wrong. It’s a waste of taxpayers’ money. It’s not the right way to in fact handle asylum seekers or others and therefore we think the best way ahead is to use Christmas Island instead. It’s a facility which is part of the Commonwealth of Australia….There will be no continuation of the Pacific Solution under a Federal Labor government.

What the Rudd Government still jeered as of yesterday:

On the resumption of parliament yesterday, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith challenged the Coalition to nominate which of Labor’s policy changes it would overturn… ”Would you reintroduce the Pacific solution, where processing is done on Manus Island and Nauru?

What Rudd now copies from John Howard, substituting only “Indonesia” for “Nauru”:

SEVENTY-EIGHT asylum seekers who were picked up by an Australian customs ship at the weekend are likely to end up in detention in Indonesia after a diplomatic impasse over their fate was broken late yesterday.

It’s the hypocrisy and spin which is most revolting.

No. It doesn’t end there.

KRudd’s sucking up to Indonesia makes everything worse, much worse. And way more more expensive. Remember: infidels are expected to pay the jiziya with willing submission and KRudd is there today and tomorrow to pay up. It will be years before we even know how much KRudd is paying to bribe Indonesia while occupying the Australian public with the so called oil for food scandal. The Rudd Government lets in 42 more asylum seekers, rewarding the one or more of them who blew up their own boat, killing five people:

ALL surviving asylum-seekers from the boat that exploded near Ashmore Reef in April will begranted permanent residency in Australia, ahead of a coronial inquest into the cause of the blaze that killed five of their fellow passengers.

The 42 Afghan men from the boat that was set alight on April 16 will be released into the community this week.

Police believe the fire was deliberately lit by one or more of the asylum-seekers, but do not have enough evidence to lay any charges.

Is this really behaviour we should encourage? Is the asylum seeker with the match really someone to welcome here?

The word on this nice new government sure has got out:

So what happens when you allow Muslims to invade your country:

There is another aspect to this military aspect of Islam, it is the immediate mobilisation of young Muslim men at the drop of a hat.

Fjordman writes, that in Europe, any altercation on the street involving Muslims and other people, or the police, leads to hundreds of Muslims gathering at the spot in a matter of minutes. This can only happen if the there is a communication, command/control and conveyance system to facilitate such a rapid response.

1. Communication – the mobile phone does that

2. Command centre – the mosque or its affiliates

3. Conveyance – in most European cities the taxi service is operated by Muslims. This provides a quick and reliable service to take Muslim units to the confrontation zone.

4. Combat ready young men.

The result of this integrated system is that in any confrontation, Muslims, though a minority, are able to have local superiority in numbers at the confrontation zone. This system allowed them to gain superiority even over the London MET, as apparent in demonstrations.

What Muslims have done is something quite unique for a group of people who have come as immigrants. They have set-up Rapid Response units in all the major cities of Europe. From these locations they can mount effective responses in smaller towns, even when they do not have any presence there.

All these aspects confirm that all ABLE Muslims are members of an Islamic militia. This militia can also call on international support, both civilian and state.

It is truly frightening what we have let in to our societies.

Second Thoughts on Immigration

“If Europe is getting more immigrants than its voters want,” Caldwell contends, “this is a good indication its democracy is malfunctioning.”

Every official prediction about Muslim immigrants proved false. Caldwell lays them out in detail:

Immigrants would be few in number. Since they were coming to fill short-term gaps in the labor force, most would stay in Europe only temporarily. Some might stay longer. No one assumed they would ever be eligible for welfare. That they would retain the habits and cultures of Muslim villages, clans, market-places and mosques was a thought too bizarre to entertain.

Their families and villages followed until the Muslim population swelled from tiny numbers in 1950 to as many as 17 million by 2000. There are now at least 5 million Muslims in France, 4 million in Germany, and 2 million in Great Britain. This is becoming very, very expensive:

BORDER protection authorities have intercepted yet another boatload of asylum-seekers off Australia’s northwest coast, the 31st vessel to be detected this year…On board were 52 passengers and three crew…

So far this year, 1649 passengers have arrived by boat, ferried by a total of 64 crew members.

Former Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews makes a contrast with the number of boat people in the last five years of the Howard Government:

Since 2002, there were less than 250 illegal boat arrivals.

Is the Rudd Government absolutely sure it didn’t send out the wrong signal last year in softening our laws against this kind of thing? One small mercy, I guess: “only” 25 people have since drowned in trying to get here.

But the cost to taxpayers is enormous, to judge by figures released in May by the Government:

When calculated over the October-February period, the numbers show authorities spent more than $5.3 million on the 141 people who were in detention as of February 28 – or $38,000 a detainee.

That suggests the boat arrivals just this year alone have cost us around $65 million. And that’s just for starters…

Five dodgy Norwegians give an encouragement prize to Barack Obama. According to French President Nicolas Sarkozy, this “confirms, finally, America’s return to the hearts of the people of the world.” The whole world? And here’s the Prez himself:

That Nobel Peace Prize: Bashes Bush, Handcuffs Obama

My prediction: The absurdity of the prize decision will harm Obama politically in the United States, contrasting his role as international celebrity with his record devoid of accomplishments. Michael Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee, notes that Obama “won’t be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.” Expert to hear much more along those lines.
