Just who is intolerant, anyway?

No question. We’re surrendering to religious intolerance. Just not the imaginary religious intolerance many would have us believe.

After 9/11, we stressed the distinction between Muslims and extremist Muslims who were driven by an ideological strain of orthodoxy that prioritizes atomizing the infidel. But we all conceded that those terrorists were Muslims, nonetheless. It’s a fact.

Today, even broaching the topic of religious affiliation can send (almost all) the dolts on “The View” scattering for cover. To some folks, any whiff of critical discussion on the religious angle is tantamount to narrow-mindedness. And now, apparently, religious bigotry includes the dissemination of truth.

Surely by now you’ve heard the tale of liberal commentator Juan Williams, fired by National Public Radio after conceding to Bill O’Reilly that Muslims dressed in traditional garb on a airplane make him kind of “nervous” and “worried.”

“Now, I remember also that when the Times Square bomber was at court, I think this was just last week,” as Williams went on to assert during a broader conversation about more tolerance. “He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts.”

Of course there is. Ask some of the “tolerance” — pimping left-wing groups like Think Progress for their instruction manual. Just throw around the word bigotry. Chill conversation. Watch NPR capitulate and  then watch journalists who value their careers become increasingly uneasy about covering or discussing Islamic radicalism, peaceful Islam — any Islam.

This isn’t exactly new. There are many books — a genre actually — that expound on the profound stupidity of religion and its followers. Though I enjoy some of these works, I can’t help but marvel at how the most severe accusations are reserved for modern Catholicism or Evangelicalism while, if we’re lucky, some tepid criticism will gently fall on the faith featuring the most fundamentalism in the world.

I get it. We pride ourselves as being an open society. And we can stay that way by greeting fundamentalism with modernity not allowing radicalism to influence our enlightenment.

Or so you’d think.

If you can ever find the Seattle cartoonist Molly Norris ask her about religion tolerance. Norris has reportedly gone “ghost” after finding herself on an Islamic terror hit list for her insulting cartoon. (Let me know when a journalist makes an atheist, Mormon or papal hit list.)

Free speech didn’t exactly work out that well for Molly. There was only a faint outcry about her predicament. The tolerance crowd was busy smearing anyone who didn’t like idea of a mosque near ground zero a bigot.

That’s OK, most cartoonists understand that nearly every topic is open to them. Nearly.

And since most of us still enjoy nearly unlimited free expression, perhaps NPR will explain its reverence to open dialogue at some point during the next 600 hours of shilling for charity.

Perhaps NPR can even take a few moments to explain to American Muslims why they’re thought of as children who can’t handle the slightest perceived politically incorrect comment.

And maybe they can carve out a few minutes for groups that instigated and rationalize shutting down journalists. Perhaps they can explain how they perceive themselves “liberal.” It seems to be a misnomer for the ages.

Barack Obama’s father figure and mentor Rev. Jeremiah Wright has a history of bashing Jews and whitey.

It’s not just his sermons that are offensive. Wright also told reporters last year,“Them Jews aren’t going to let him talk to me.”

Last week in a class he teaches at the University of Chicago, Wright was out bashing whitey and Jews some more…
And, the students even earned college credits for attending his racist rant!
The New York Post reported:

He’s been keeping such a low profile since nearly derailing Barack Obama’s campaign for president in 2008 — is it possible that the controversial Rev. Jeremiah Wright has mellowed?

Hardly.

During a five-day seminar Wright taught last week at the University of Chicago, he was back at it, claiming that whites and Jews are controlling the flow of worldwide information and oppressing blacks in Israel and America.

“White folk done took this country,” Wright said. “You’re in their home, and they’re gonna let you know it.”

The course, advertised as focusing on politics and public policy in South Africa and America, was taught in a small, ground-floor room at the Chicago Theological Seminary on the university campus, where Wright’s voice echoed out an open window. The class was composed of about 15 to 20 students, mainly older African-American women who would arrive early and giddily linger during lunch breaks and after class, looking for the reverend’s attention. (The course cost a little over $1,000 if taken for college credit and $300 if taken without.)

“Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect,” Obama said.

Yet during this course — which was described as asking, “What is the response and public witness of persons of faith to ongoing developments in both countries?” — Wright made many statements about what he believes are the true aims of whites and Jews.

“You are not now, nor have you ever been, nor will you ever be a brother to white folk,” he said. “And if you do not realize that, you are in serious trouble.”

He cited the writings of Bill Jones — author of the book “Is God a White Racist?” — as proof that white people cannot be trusted. “Bill said, ‘They just killed four of their own at Kent State. They’ll step on you like a cockroach and keep on movin’, cause you not a brother to them.’ ”

Wright referred to Italians as “Mamma Luigi” and “pizzeria.” He said the educational system in America is designed by whites to miseducate blacks “not by benign neglect but by malignant intent.”

Yemen’s Jewish minority has demanded government protection, or the means to leave the country after a religious extremist killed one of them last Thursday.

The plight of the “protected people” (dhimmi) under Islam:

If dhimmis complained about their inferior status, institutionalized humiliation, or poverty, their masters voided their contract and regarded them as enemies of Islam, fair game as objects of violence. Consequently, dhimmis were generally cowed into silence and worse. It was almost unheard-of to find dhimmis speaking out against their oppressors; to do so would have been suicide. For centuries dhimmi communities in the Islamic world learned to live in peace with their Muslim overlords by acquiescing to their subservience. Some even actively identified with the dominant class, and became strenuous advocates for it.

“If the State is unable to protect us and secure us in our homeland, the only alternative should be for the state to buy our houses and properties and grant us the money to leave the country,” said Rabbi Yahya bin Yaish, brother of the murdered Mousa Yaish.

The Rabbi has revealed abuses and assaults over the past few months against the country’s Jewish community, which totals less than 500 people out of Yemen’s population of 22 million.

“Over the past months we have been suffering from repeated assaults and threats, and we have been reporting these to the official bodies and tribal chiefs without success,” he said.

He accused “some local people, including bodyguards of some influential officials” of committing such repeated “assaults, abuses, harassments” against the Jews in Raida and Kharef in Amran province, where about 400 Yemeni Jews live.

The Ministry of Interior said Saturday they had arrested eight people accused of abusing the Jews.  “The assaults and threats turned to murder, my brother was killed in cold blood in the market,” The rabbi said.

“They search us when we come and go, they search our visitors, and investigate our guests, they sometimes attack our houses, beat us, and threaten our women with guns, and nobody rescues us from them, it seems that everybody is helpless to protect us from those assailants, or maybe it is organized assaults,” he added.

Former pilot Abdul Azeez Hamoud Al Abdi confessed to killing the Jew Mousa Yaish, and showed no repentance for the crime, according to sources familiar to the investigations.

Official sources said the perpetrator claimed he carried out these actions to “get closer to Allah”, and he warned the Jews in writing one month prior. In his alleged letter he told the Jews: convert to Islam, leave the country, or face the sword.

However, Rabbi Yahya bin Yaish denied that they had received a letter from the perpetrator or anyone else before the murder.

The sources also said the investigations had shown that the perpetrator traveled to Saudi Arabia and Lebanon during 2008 but gave no further information about the reasons behind the visits.

The perpetrator was fired from his work about four years ago for his extremism in dealing with others, the sources said.

Deputy Director for security in Amran province Ahmed Al Suraihi confirmed that investigations were complete, and the case will be referred to the prosecution in the coming two days.

Relatives of the victim have arrived in Yemen from Israel, the US, and Britain to participate in the funeral which will be held this week.  In a separate incident, two of the victim’s sisters were injured, one seriously, in a car accident on their way from Raida to Amran on Friday after they arrived from Israel.

“Now, they are in a hospital in Sana’a, and the funeral may be delayed until his sisters have recovered,” said one of the relatives who accompanied the two sisters to the hospital.

AS the shock departure of Mahmoud Abbas sinks in for Palestinians, Ahmad Aweidah is rising fast in the new generation of leaders.

Palestinians, he said, should focus on a single state in which Palestinians were the majority.

It would be a federal system under which the Israel Defence Forces would retain responsibility for defence.

“Under one state, Jews and Arabs would share power at a local level for things like education and health, while things like water would be decided at a national level,” he said.

“The Jews would have their own canton and the Arabs would have their own canton. It would be a federal structure. The Palestinian canton would not be responsible for the defence of the country. I am happy for the Jewish canton to remain in charge of defence through the IDF. Not a single Palestinian would serve in the IDF. Jerusalem would be everybody’s. Jews would be able to live in Hebron not as settlers but as full citizens.

“The Irish and the English resolved their conflict. The English and the Scots. There have been many other conflicts that have seemed as intractable as this one. It’s better than continued conflict, is it not?”

In two recent interviews – one with foreign journalists and one with The Weekend Australian – Mr Aweidah argued that the possibility of a Palestinian state passed with the growth of Jewish settlements.

Palestinian politician Mustafa Bargouti said this week that international pressure had encouraged Palestinians to seek a two-state solution – an independent Palestine alongside Israel – but that this was no longer realistic. Mr Aweidah agreed: “The two-state solution is no longer viable,” he said.

“I think the only solution now is one state where the Palestinians are the majority and the Jews are a protected minority, just like the whites are now in South Africa.

“Time and demographics are on our side. In 15 years’ time, Palestinians will be the majority.”

Mr Aweidah claims the Palestinians have a birth rate of 4.3 per cent. As with everything in this conflict, this is disputed. Israeli analyst Yoram Ettinger described it as “a fairytale”.

“We have come up with documented data, mostly Palestinian material, which determines that the trend is exactly the opposite,” Mr Ettinger, head of research group Second Thought, told The Weekend Australian.

He found the number of Arabs in Judea and Samaria had been inflated by 66 per cent, and the number of Arabs in Judea, Samaria and Gaza had been overestimated by 43 per cent. “The demographic tailwind is Jewish – the Arab birth rate is coming down in a free dive,” he said. However, prominent Israelis such as opposition leader Tzipi Livni continue to sound the demographic alarm for the Jewish population.

As Washington’s push to resume peace talks sinks, Palestinians more frequently are speaking about a unitary state. “What have we got from 15 years of negotiating since Oslo?” Mr Aweidah said. “Today we’re sitting behind a wall with 500,000 Jewish settlers. So what will we get from another 15 years of negotiations – one million settlers? The Jews say `never again’ about the Shoah. We say `never again’ about losing more years negotiating for nothing.”

Asked of Israelis who would resist his vision out of fear for the end of the Jewish state, he said: “But it would be the birth of the Jewish canton. Don’t worry, we will be good to them. They will be treated as a protected minority. We are not interested in oppressing them. Historically, we don’t have a problem with Jews. Anti-semitism is not an Arab or Muslim thing, it’s primarily been a Christian thing.” Mr Aweidah says his views are typical today.

The question is, if the moderates are speaking like this in public, how are the hardliners speaking in private?

The erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem is integral to Palestinian ideology. Accordingly, Israel and Jews are said to have “no rights” to Jerusalem, and any contemporary manifestation of Jewish life and development there is labeled by the Palestinian Authority as “Judaization.” Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard for historical reality. Beyond this historical revisionism, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting to expel Arabs from Jerusalem in order to further “Judaize” the city. Fabrications include PA accusations of Israeli destruction of Islamic and Christian sites, and repeated use of PA hate language, including references to a “criminal cultural massacre”  to chase Arab inhabitants away. The Jerusalem libel is designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as the enemy of, and threat to, Arabs and Islam.

2. Hate libels: Israel plans destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Judaization of Jerusalem; PA alarmist campaign to promote fear and hate.

Since Jews are said to have no connection to Jerusalem, nor any right to live in the city, any Israeli action in Jerusalem is defined as “Judaization” and an attempt to erase the city’s supposedly authentic Islamic Arab character. The PA has launched an incendiary libel campaign which presents as fact the lie that Israel is working to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to expel Arabs from the city.

The claim that Israel is pursuing a policy of ridding Jerusalem of its Arab inhabitants is blatantly untrue. In fact, according to May 2009 statistics released by the Jerusalem Center for Israel Studies, since the liberation of east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War, Jerusalem’s population has increased by 186%, with the Arab population of east Jerusalem growing by 291%, almost twice the growth rate of the Jewish population.

Palestinian Authority Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Hussein:

 3. Jerusalem and all of Israel are defined as land of “Ribat”

A Palestinian Authority schoolbook defines Ribat:

    ”The Ribat for Allah is one of the actions related to Jihad …The persistence of Palestine’s people on their land in these days [i.e., Israel], and their persistence against the damage and the aggression they endure – is one of the greatest of the Ribat [fighting for Islamic land], and they are worthy of a great reward from Allah…. they are found in Ribat until Resurrection. ”

In recent months, Palestinian leaders have frequently defined all of Israel, and particularly Jerusalem, as land of “Ribat” – i.e., areas which Muslims have a religious obligation to defend and liberate for Islam. In the past, it was specifically Hamas that defined the conflict with Israel as a religious war. Now, the PA – Fatah leadership likewise openly presents its war against Israel as a religious battle for Islam.

     “Ribat unites us as Muslims and as Palestinian Arabs with Jerusalem, and with its holy [places] and with the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is ongoing Ribat which cannot be halted even for a second.”

Under it there is an empty space, and above it an empty space, and a voice is heard there – the voice of the Murabitin [Ribat people] who hold onto it day and night, to protect it.”

A new fatwa published in Egypt determines that the source of all the existing pigs in the world is Jews, who were cursed by Allah. The new edict was issued by Sheikh Ali Osman from the Egyptian Waqf ministry.

The Ministry of Awqaf is in charge of religious endowments — that is, land and buildings designated for Islamic religious activities. And look who’s minding the store in Egypt.

Due to their Jewish roots, Sheikh Osman says, it is permissible to slaughter all the pigs. The religious scholar was quoted as saying by a Jordanian newspaper that he personally believes the source of the pigs is Jews and thus the consumption of pork meat is banned in Islam.
