Of course, any good Muslim will tell you that “hostage taking is un-Islamic…” and western politicians will assure you that they will not  ”negotiate with terrorists”.  In light of recent releases however, an absurd claim….

An Al Qaeda website is in effect calling for the taking of Dutch hostages so that they can be exchanged for Mohammed Bouyeri, the Islamic terrorist who ritually slaughtered Theo van Gogh in 2004 and is serving a life sentence for it.

Mohammed Bouyeri, the murderer of Theo van Gogh, must be exchanged with western hostages. Jihadists have made that call to al-Qaeda in North Africa.

This is stated in the document “Terrorist Threat Assessment Netherlands”, which was presented yesterday to Dutch Parliament by the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism (NCTb) Erik Akerboom.

“In North Africa outside Algeria, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) tries to strengthen its position and influence in the entire region,” the NCTb writes. “AQIM is particularly active outside Algeria in Mauritania, Mali, and Niger. Kidnappings of Westerners seems, besides committing attacks, to be increasingly the default modus operandi of AQIM. It is striking in this context that a call on a jihadist website to AQIM for an exchange of hostages for Mohammed Bouyeri, the murderer of Theo van Gogh who is detained in the Vught prison in the Netherlands. The call does not directly result in a heightened threat of kidnappings of Dutch in particular, but the release could be used as a demand once Dutch citizens have been kidnapped.

A remarkably different point in the report is that Afghanistan is in a stalemate, says the NCTb: “Afghanistan looks increasingly to be in a stalemate: the Afghan Taliban can not be defeated, but they are also unable to conquer the entire country.”   Read further…

Seven Israeli Arabs affiliated with al-Qaida and Global Jihad have been arrested for allegedly murdering a taxi driver last year, and carrying out a series of terrorist attacks, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) revealed on Monday.In a joint police-Shin Bet operation, Ahmed Ahmed, 21, Jalib Janam, 26, Wassim Allam, 23, Khidar Ziddana, 22, Ahbed Abu-Salim, 19, Adi Azzam, 23, and Oman Kakhibi, 22, all Nazareth residents, were arrested between May 11 and June 21. All seven were indicted Monday at the Haifa district court.

Dep.-Cmdr. Avi Elgrisi, Head of Amakim Police’s Central Unit told The Jerusalem Post that “this is one of the most dangerous cells we have uncovered.” The investigation was initially focused on two suspects, before being widened to include seven other suspects, he said, adding that police are expected to make more arrests in connection with the investigation.

The seven said that they founded a group called Aljahabiyya and claim to follow Salafism, an extremist Sunni Islamic movement. Aljahabiyya was formed two years ago, and inspired by and affiliated with al-Qaida and Global Jihad. The group underwent a process of radicalization, using material found on the Internet, including pictures of weaponry and instructions to prepare explosives and perpetrate terrorist attacks. The seven downloaded al-Qaida propaganda movies and speeches by Osama Bin Laden.

“They accessed the Internet for jihadi ideology and indoctrination, and used it as an information source to listen to extremist clerics,” Elgrisi said.

Aljahabiyya admit to murderring [sic] taxi driver

The group allegedly carried out attacks to avenge the murder of Arabs by Jews in Israel, and confessed to plotting to kidnap IDF soldiers and taking their weapons.

Ahmed, Janam and Zidanna were involved involved in the murder of taxi driver Yafim Weinstein, who was killed on November 30, 2009, as well as other attacks. In their interrogation, the three confessed to ordering Weinstein to a kibbutz near Nazareth, where one shot the taxi driver, and others assisted in destroying evidence. They reenacted the murder and led investigators to the place they hid the murder weapon used to kill Weinstein.

Weinstein, 54, a Nazareth Illit resident, was found murdered in his cab outside Kfar Hahoresh in November, leaving behind a wife, children and a grandchild. Details of the investigation were under a gag order until Monday morning.

The Shin Bet also found that after the murder, Ahmed and Janam attempted to travel to an al-Qaida training camp in Somalia to join the fighting against the Christian “heretics” as well as against the US, but were barred from entering Somalia at the Kenyan border.

The family was seized by gunmen on June 12, 2009 while on an excursion with two female German Bible school students, who had worked as assistant nurses, a British engineer and a female South Korean teacher. The badly mutilated dead bodies of the German Bible school students and the Korean teacher were found three days later. What happened to the Brit is unknown.

The brutality and length of this hostage taking may be explained by the fact that the girls father had been trying to convert Muslims to the Christian faith. German authorities believe that the Germans were regarded as Christian missionaries in Sa’ada and missionary writings were found in the belongings of the Bible students who have been murdered.

France and Italy have a long tradition of caving in to the demands of terrorists over hostages. While this may save the lives of today’s hostages, it also leads to more hostage taking. Such a strategy leads to more hostage taking and deaths.

We demand the hostages be set free without any conditions or any quid pro quo. Hostage taking is barbaric and exposes al Qaeda as the murderous thugs that they are. If you support this, you too are a barbarian.

Unfortunately for Muslims, the taking of slaves and hostages in battle was a practice endorsed by Muhammad. The practice is clearly evil. Either Muhammad wasn’t a prophet, or his example (sunnah) in many cases should not be followed.

More Than Half of Turks in Austria Want Sharia…

More than half of the approx. 220,000 Turkish immigrants – 2.65% of the 8.3 million people in Austria – want Islamic law introduced into the Austrian legal system.  Asked whether some parts of Islamic law (e.g. marriage, family and inheritance laws) should be incorporated into Austrian law, 50% agreed, 16% said it depended on which elements were incorporated and 22% were against it.  Responses varied by education level and German language skills, but religion was the most decisive factor.  Close to 62% of religious-political Muslims agreed Sharia should be incorporated, compared to 41% of secular Muslims.  In both groups, an additional 16% said it depends on what elements were to be incorporated.

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday stated that forced conversions, termed as Love Jihad or Romeo Jihad, and efforts for that were a reality in the State despite the arguments by the Kerala Director General of Police, and Union Home Department to the contrary.

Stating that the State Government had the responsibility to check forced conversions, the court asked it to formulate legislation on the lines of the other States.

Rejecting a petition for anticipatory bail in a Love Jihad case filed by Shehenshah, a Muslim youth, who had allegedly forced a non-Muslim MBA girl student of a Pathanamthitta college in the name of love, the court said that campuses should not be turned into venues for forced conversions through false love affairs.

Justice KT Sankaran also rejected another petition seeking a ban on the use of the terms Love Jihad and Romeo Jihad.

Earlier, Kerala DGP Jacob Punnoose had submitted in the court that no evidence was available to prove the existence of an organised movement in the State, specialising in converting non-Muslim girls into Islam through treacherous love affairs. Subsequently, the Union Home Department told the court that it had no information of any movement anywhere in the country specialising in such conversion methods.

Justice Sankaran also pointed out that the reports submitted by top police officials in the State were of contradictory in nature. The DGP had told the court that there were no “actionable” evidences to suggest that such a conversion campaign was on in Kerala but indications of possibility of such a programme was there. The court also said that 14 out of the 18 reports from SPs on the matter, submitted by the DGP, were of no value or use.

However, police reports themselves had made it clear that forced conversions through love affairs as a movement had been going on in Kerala since 1996. The judge said that the police reports had indicated that about 4,000 conversions had taken place through love affairs in the past four years, and 2,800 girls of other religions had undergone conversion into Islam in this period.

He also said that 1,600 such conversions had taken place in four northern districts, including Malappuram, Kerala’s Muslim-majority district. It was evident from the report submitted by the DGP that outfits like Islamist Popular Front of India (earlier NDF) and its student wing, the Campus Front, were behind the organised campus-based conversion programme, said Justice Sankaran.

He added that the DGP’s report had also indicated that Muslim conversion centres had been functioning in Kozhikode district.

Though the Constitution guaranteed equal rights to all religions, the right for faith should not be used for forced conversions and conversions through treachery, the judge said. Mixed marriages could be promoted but such marriages should not be used as tools for forced or treacherous conversions, he pointed out.

He also said that several other States had formulated legislations for preventing forced conversions and the people and the Government of Kerala should consider formulation of such legislation in view of the particular context.

MANILA — In one of the worst incidents of election- related violence in the Philippines in recent memory, a group of more than 40 people — including lawyers, journalists and relatives of a local politician — were kidnapped by armed men Monday, and military officials said 21 of them had been killed. Local media reported that some of the dead had been beheaded, and that more bodies were expected to be recovered. The mechanical digger used to bury them was stamped “Property of the Provincial Government of Maguindanao”, further suggesting the involvement of Mr Ampatuan’s supporters. “Their private parts were showing, their heads were crushed, they were mutilated,” Mr Mangudadatu told Philippines television. Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner, a military spokesman in Manila, said 21 bodies had been recovered in Maguindanao, a province on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines that has often been wracked by election violence. Thirteen of the dead were women, according to the military.

Maj. Gen. Alfredo Cayton, a security official in the province, said in a radio interview that the victims had been shot. But relatives of most of the victims said at least 30 abductees had been killed and many of them beheaded by a group of about 100 men.

The victims were reportedly stopped on their way to an election office to file candidacy papers for Esmael Mangudadatu, the vice mayor of the town of Buluan, who plans to run for governor of Maguindanao. Mr. Mangudadatu said on ABS-CBN television that his wife, his sister and several other female relatives had been in the group and that he had received confirmation that they had been killed.

He said they had been filing his candidacy documents in the hope that women would not be attacked. Lawyers and reporters accompanied the group, although the military did not identify the bodies they had recovered.

“We believe more bodies are buried,” Colonel Brawner said, according to Reuters. “Unfortunately, the killing happened before our troops got there.”…

Attacks on candidates and supporters during campaign periods are common throughout the Philippines. In 2007 local elections, nearly 100 people were killed in such attacks.

Election violence is more extreme in Maguindanao, where an Islamic insurgency and decades-old clan wars complicate the security situation. Loose firearms, many of them in the hands of criminal groups and political warlords, have worsened the situation in this and other areas….

The Myth:

Muhammad Never Killed Captives

The Truth:

Islamic terrorists take and execute hostages on an almost daily basis.  So much so, that mainstream Muslims rarely even bother to comment.  When they do, however, we are assured that this has “nothing to do with Islam” because Muhammad never executed prisoners of war, or anyone else taken hostage…

Except that he did.

During the Battle of Badr, several defenseless Meccans were slaughtered by Muhammad’s companions.  These included a man named Umayya and his young son, who were taken prisoner by a Muslim (a former friend who tried to protect them), but were then set upon by a mob before they could be escorted to safety:

“I said (would you attack) my prisoners?  But… The people formed a ring around us as I was protecting him.  Then a man drew his sword and cut off his son’s foot so that he fell down and Umayya [the boy’s father] let out a cry such as I have never heard… They hewed them to pieces with their swords until they were dead.” (Ibn Ishaq 449)

Another heartwarming account of Muslim chivalry during the same battle concerns Abu Jahl,  one of Muhammad’s arch-enemies at Mecca.  He met his death as he lay defenseless.  In this case, two Muslims took the opportunity to administer the death blow:

Mu’awwidh passed Abu Jahl as he lay there helpless and smote him until he left him at his last gasp. (Ibn Ishaq 451)

Later, another Muslim named Abdullah came by and put his foot on Abu Jahl’s neck, taunted him and then decapitated him:

Then I cut off his head and brought it to the apostle saying, “This is the head of the enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl.”… I threw his head before the apostle and he gave thanks to Allah. (Ibn Ishaq 451).

Apparently these companions of Muhammad were unaware of his rule against killing captives.   But who could really blame them?  Not only did the prophet of Islam praise them for the slaughter at the time, he also ordered the killing of another captive brought before him.

Uqba bin Abu Mu’ayt pled for his life:

“When the apostle ordered him to be killed, Uqba said, “But who will look after my children, O Muhammad?”  [Muhammad’s reply] “Hell.”  The man was put to death. (Ibn Ishaq 458)

Other captives were ransomed, but Uqba received special treatment because he had mocked Muhammad at Mecca.  His crime was that he had thrown the entrails of a dead animal on Muhammad’s back as he was praying, to the amusement of other Meccans (Muslim 4422, Ibn Ishaq 277).  The prophet of Islam determined that this fraternity prank was worth killing over, and it became the first of several other occasions in which people were slain on Muhammad’s order merely for mocking him.

Interestingly, there appears to be evidence that Muhammad regretted not killing all of his captives, instead of ransoming them.  Verse 8:67 of the Qur’an was “revealed” in the aftermath of Badr and says “It is not for any prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land.”

The prophet of Islam went on to execute many other captives, most notoriously the 800 men and boys taken prisoner at Qurayza.  His men also brutally murdered an elderly woman named Umm Qirfa after taking her prisoner following a raid on the tribe of Banu Fazara.  According to al-Tabari she was killed by, “putting a rope to her two legs and to two camels and driving them until thy rent her in two.” (The woman’s daughter was then doled out to a Muslim man).

While it is common to hear Muslims claim that their religion is “against” killing hostages, the actual history of Islam proves that nothing could be further from the truth

The issue of a Muslim man having more than one wife has always divided the country’s second largest religious minority. The row has escalated since the Law Commission asserted Thursday that bigamy conflicts with the ‘true Islamic law in letter and spirit’.

‘Bigamy is not against the spirit of Islam,’ asserted Maulana Abdul Khaleeq Sambhali, pro-vice chancellor of Darul Uloom in Deoband town, some 150 km from here, and one of the biggest seminaries in India.

‘Islam permits a man to have more than one wife provided he does justice to both his wives on economic and other issues,’ the Maulana told IANS on telephone from Deoband.

Sambhali was reacting to the 227th Law Commission report submitted to the central government. While falling short of suggesting a change in Muslim law that permits bigamy, the commission report said: ‘We fully agree that traditional understanding of Muslim law on bigamy is gravely faulty and conflicts with true Islamic law in letter and spirit.’

This is one of the most radical observations on the subject in any recent government publication.

Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan concurred with Sambhali but with a moderate touch for which he is known.

‘Islam permits a man to have a second wife but under certain conditions,’ the ageing Khan told IANS here.

Khan added quickly that while bigamy was widespread during medieval periods when wars turned the gender ratio in favour of women, Muslims now did not practise bigamy.

Asked if he would support a ban on bigamy in India a la Turkey and Tunisia, Khan said: ‘Ban is not a solution. Instead people must be taught and made aware in what conditions a man can marry more than one wife.’

Even in Muslim countries such as Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Morocco, Pakistan and Bangladesh, polygamy is subject to judicial review.

The Indian clerics’ views supporting bigamy is met with disgust by most middle class Muslims.

‘The system of bigamy is inherently unfair to women and such practices should be stopped,’ thundered Arshan Alam, assistant professor at the Centre For Jawaharlal Nehru Studies in Jamia Millia Islamia here.

He said that to stop such practices, the Indian state, as it has acted in the case of Hindus, ‘must take the initiative because it has the authority to regulate and legislate on such issues’.

Alam is opposed to the veto power the largely conservative Ulema appears to hold over Muslim issues that affect millions. The government needs to rope in liberal and intellectual Muslims, he said.

Shazia Naz, 27, a housewife in Delhi, agreed with Alam.

‘If my husband marries another woman, it would be one of the most humiliating things in my life,’ she said. ‘In such cases I would prefer to get a divorce.’

Naz also said the Indian Muslim community needed to take the initiative to battle social customs out of tune with today’s world.

Although many Indians are under the impression that Muslim men tend to take more than one wife, government-backed statistics prove that this is a myth.

According to a 1974 government survey, one of the last on the subject, tribals account for around 14 percent of all bigamous marriages in India. Surprisingly, Muslims are at the bottom with 5.6 percent of bigamous marriages while upper caste Hindus come a notch above them — 5.8 percent.

‘In any case, how can Muslim men have two wives when there are not so many Muslim women in the country?’ asked Alam.

And the sense of entitlement to tribute money is, of course, found in the Qur’an: “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued” (9:29).

Dhaka (AsiaNews) – Some 20 Hindu families from the villages of Kalibari, Kajir Hat and Keramotia, in the sub-district of Sonagaji, southern Bangladesh, have become the victims of extortions and blackmail by members of the local Muslim majority, this according to representatives of the local Hindu minority. They complain that young Hindu women are being abducted to extort money from their families.

Initially Jafar, Yunus, Saiful, Ripon, and other Muslims set up a criminal gang. Their first deed was to demand 45,000 taka (US$ 650) from the family of Nitia Das, in Kalibari.

When other Hindus resisted attempts to extort money, the gang began persecuting Hindu families in the area’s villages.

They abducted one young woman, demanding a ransom of 50,000 taka (US$ 725) for her release.

In a second case a family had to pay 25,000 taka (just over US$ 360) to get the release of the young woman involved.

A local Hindu, Boloram Das, who is related to the second kidnap victim, said that more threats have been made against local Hindus.

One of the gang members, Yunus, is now threatening to marry a young Hindu woman against her will and that of her family.

“Neither villagers nor police are willing to help us,” he lamented. In addition, “at least 20 Hindu families from the area are unable to go home.”

Human rights activist Dipal Barua said that attacks against minorities are very much on the rise in Bangladesh.

Strongly condemning violence, he called on the government to “take proper actions against the extortionists as soon as possible.”
