Malaysia: Wife beaten for not finding new wife

A 57-year-old Malaysian Muslim man assaulted his wife and threatened to shoot her after she failed to secure him a young second wife, news reports said today. (But remember: according to a new fatwa she is allowed to beat him too/ed)

Mohamad Haris Daud, a local police chief in Kuantan in central Pahang state, said the man forced his 60-year-old wife to seek the consent of a woman in her 30s to be his second wife. The frightened wife then went to the woman’s house but found out that she was already married, he said.

Malaysia: Religion of Muzzlers Scraps Nobel Laureate’s Speech

Malaysia has scrapped an invitation for Nobel laureate Shirin Ebadi to deliver a speech about Islam because of pressure from Iranian diplomats who warned the event could hurt bilateral ties, an official said.

The Hindu Rights Action Force has been declared illegal, because it “threatens social stability” in the country and “constitute an obstacle to relations between the Muslim majority and the ethnic minorities.” The accusations are rejected by the Hindus, who defend their “peaceful struggle.”

 

 

 

 

Kuala Lumpur (AsiaNews/Agencies) - Malaysian authorities have banned an ethnic Indian group that, in the past, has repeatedly promoted campaigns on behalf of human rights for minorities. Government officials have declared the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) illegal because it threatens “social stability in the country.”
