MANILA, GMA News TV--Philippines — Religious leaders in Lanao are calling for a jihad (holy war) in fighting “oppressors” against Islam, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) claimed Saturday.

In a statement on its website (www.luwaran.com), the MILF said the calls were made in sermons of religious leaders during Friday congregational prayers.

“Sermons of the religious leaders of Lanao provinces in Friday’s congregational prayers called on the Bangsamoro to unite and wage jihad fi sabilillah in fighting the oppressors, religious persecutors and enemies of Islam,” it said.

 MANILA, Philippines - The Moro Islamic Liberation Front on Saturday accused the Army of attacking MILF forces while the rebels were praying inside a mosque in Sarangani last Friday. 

A statement on the MILF Web site said one MILF member was killed in the attack on the 107th Base Command at 12:30 p.m. in Daliao, Maasim town.

“Firing at the Mosque, a sacred religious symbol of the Muslim, is an attack to all the Muslims the world over. This was an act totally disrespectful of the cultural and religious symbols of the Muslims,” it said.

* Sure thing. As if Muslims showed ever showed respect to other peoples cultural and religious symbols. When did they ever care when their bombs go off in churches, temples, synagogues or even other mosques? Like here or here or here (and that’s just from today!)

The MILF controls 12,000 men under arms

* Diddling and fiddling doesn’t work. The only way to get on top of this is to summarily execute all MILF leaders, to raze every mosque in the land and hang the clerics. To really clean this place up means to round up the whole Muslim population and put them in re-education camps for as long as it takes to get them to swear off the jihad ideology. But that would be undemocratic. It would ‘violate their human rights’ and their freedom of religion, which Muslims not only don’t grant to others, but involves ’striking terror in the hearts of the unbelievers’ and to ‘kill the unbelievers wherever you find them…’

DAVAO CITY — At least 20 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels were believed killed when elements of the Philippine Army’s 73rd Infantry Battalion overran Friday afternoon an MILF camp in Maasim, Sarangani Province.

According to Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman Maj.Armando Rico, the remains of the MILF rebels were dragged by  their fleeing comrades out of their camp in Sitio Maca Uno, Barangay Daliao, Maasim, Sarangani. – Edith Regalado

*  Islam, the gift that keeps on giving…

Tens of thousands of displaced Filipinos have returned to their homes, or what is left of them, after fierce fighting broke out between government soldiers and Muslim separatists in the south of the country earlier this week. The government says at least 10,000 houses were destroyed in North Cotabato province, which forced huge numbers of poor farmers to return to refugee camps.

Government soldiers attacked positions held by Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels holed up in about 15 Christian villages in North Cotabato. Dozens of people were reportedly killed in the fighting and around 160,000 people fled their homes and farms to escape the bloodshed.
