Time to Ban the Veil: The Chilling Lesson from the Elizabeth Smart Case

Hidden in plain sight/Phyllis Chesler

He hid her in plain sight.

Her face was on posters plastered all over Utah, her kidnapping had launched one of the greatest manhunts in American history. Nevertheless, Brian Mitchell, the man who kidnapped 14 year-old Elizabeth Smart at knife-point in her bedroom actually got away with it for nine months. He kept Elizabeth as his sex slave and “second wife” for that long.

John Esposito, Saudi Arabia’s Man-on-Campus, Opposes Honor Killings When Hindus Commit Them

At Pajamas Media, Phyllis Chesler takes a stab at Johnny Esposito, a tenured whore for Sowdi Barbaria in Georgetown university, where he runs the “Al-Waleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding”

Read Johnny’s puff-piece @ Puff Ho first, here:

It was only a matter of time before someone would try to make some political hay out of the very curious obsession that the American (Arab-backed) mainstream media has with honor killings when and only when they are committed by Hindus.

And now, the Huffington Post has given none other than John Esposito the bully pulpit on this one. Professor Esposito teaches Islamic Studies at Georgetown, where he is also the founder and director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. (“Hath not a Jew eyes?” Why are Jews not included in this project of understanding?)

The Qur'anically Correct Burqa

Phyllis Chesler on FOX:

Should the West Ban the Burqa?

Many Muslim and ex-Muslim experts on Islam insist that the Qu’ran does not command women to cover their faces, bodies or hair. Women are merely told to dress modestly. They further point out that for part or all of the 20th century, many women in Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Afghanistan, stopped wearing the veil and wore western dress. Islamists claim that the veil is a religious requirement; that bikinis are worse than burqas; that veiled Muslim women are sacred and as such, should not be exposed to corrupting Western, secular mores.

All Europe is wrestling with the issue of whether to ban the Islamic veil.

“Many Muslim and ex-Muslim experts on Islam insist that the Qu’ran does not command women to cover their faces, bodies or hair. Women are merely told to dress modestly.”

Unfortunately, these “experts” are wrong.

Sura 33, Al-Ahzab, 55,

Oh Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful…..

Western Justice for Honor Killers

The British Are Doing Something Right

Hmm, not too sure about that. My guess is that they have good intentions, but when it comes to the hard work and getting into the nitty gritty the “Muslim community” will get so fired up that they will back off, as usual…

* British police have launched a new drive aimed at stopping “honor killings” and other domestic crimes directed against women. (that was in 2004)

British authorities recently reopened 119 suspicious deaths of women where no charges were brought, but which are now suspected to have been honor killings. This has already been announced in 2007 and  what exactly has been done about it?

Spencer: The Islamic Justification for Honor Killing

Islamic apologists will again assure us that honor killing has nothing to do with Islam and is a cultural practice followed by a wide variety of peoples — and yet Muslim girls keep getting killed in disproportionate numbers. No one, of course, dares to confront the root of the problem by pointing out such inconvenient truths as the fact that a manual of Islamic law certified by Al-Azhar as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy says that “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (‘Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2).

In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law. In accord with this, in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

“She got pregnant outside marriage, so father killed her: police,” from AFP, October 19/ Jihad Watch

Wafa Sultan, “A God Who Hates,” page 26, “The teachings of Islam have destroyed the men and women there [in the Middle East], and rendered them incapable of the smallest measure of humane behavior.”

When girls or women suddenly disappear, we tend to assume that they’ve been kidnapped by pedophiles or traffickers. Some of us think they were probably prostitutes and either deserved to die or were, tragically, lured to their deaths by a serial killer.

We do not think they might have been killed by their own families. And, we always assume that the slavers are men. Both beliefs are wrong.

For example, in 1999, in a suburb north of London, a fifteen year old Kurdish Turk, Tulay Goren, suddenly disappeared. The family insisted that she had simply run away. Now, a decade later, her father, Mehmet Goren and her paternal uncles Cuma Goren and Ali Goren are on trial at the Old Bailey for her murder and for having conspired to kill her much older boyfriend, Halil Unal.
