A town famous for honouring dead British soldiers returning from Afghanistan reacted defiantly to news that a controversial Islamic group is to march through its streets.

Islam4UK – which calls itself a “platform” for extremist movement al-Muhajiroun – plans to parade through Wootton Bassett, in Wiltshire, in the coming weeks.

The group’s website says the event is being held “not in memory of the occupying and merciless British military” but of the Muslims its says have been “murdered in the name of democracy and freedom”.

Leader Anjem Choudary said the protest, involving 500 people, would be peaceful one, with “symbolic coffins” being carried to honour Muslim victims of the conflict.

But the walk will not coincide with the return of a dead soldier’s body, added Mr Choudary, 42, a former lawyer from east London.

Hundreds of people line the market town’s High Street every week to watch servicemen’s bodies being driven through from RAF Lyneham.

Family and friends of the fallen, shopkeepers, and British Legion members wait in all weathers to pay silent tribute to a cortege of Union flag-draped coffins.

Ex-mayor and councillor Chris Wannell said today: “We don’t do what we do at Wootton Bassett for any political reason at all, but to pay our respects to those who have given their lives for our freedom.

“We are a Christian country and a traditional old English market town who honour very much our Queen and country. We obey the law and pay respects to our servicemen who protect our freedom. If this man has any decency about him he will not hold a march through Wootton Bassett.”

Scotland’s largest police force has promised to “oppose” a demonstration by anti-Muslim extremists if the event is intent on stirring up “racial hatred”.

Looks more like the pandering, lazy police skirts of Scotland are hiding behind the pretentious “racial hatred’ shield not to do their job. Their job includes upholding the right of free speech and expression, and it also puts the onus on them to protect demonstrators who want to exercise their G-d given right to free speech. That includes the right of Scots to participate in any protest against Islamization of their country without being vilified and criminalized.

Yes, we all know that Islam is a Religion of Peace and if you say we Mohammedans are not peaceful we smash up the place. But the law is still the law and the law must be upheld: Fiat Justicia et Pereat Mundus!

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police made the comment about a procession by the newly-formed Scottish Defence League (SDL) that is pencilled in for November.

Anti-racist campaigners believe the far-right group wants to hold its rally near a mosque in Glasgow, or at a venue that is being lined up as a Muslim place of worship in Kilmarnock.

The SDL is thought to be affiliated to the English Defence League (EDL), an organisation that has staged protests this year against what it calls “militant Islam”.

The English group, which claims not to have any formal links with the British National Party, includes members of the BNP and a large football hooligan element.

It is the SDL’s intention to hold a demonstration in Scotland on November 14 that is worrying local authorities, police and community activists.

Authorities believe the SDL has earmarked George Square in Glasgow or land near the city’s sheriff court building as possible locations for the demonstration.

The latter venue is close to Glasgow Central mosque, a focal point for Strathclyde’s 30,000 Muslims.

Another option being considered for the protest, according to websites used by EDL supporters, is the Hillhead Tavern in Kilmarnock. Al-Huda Educational Society of Kilmarnock has hopes of buying the pub and turning it into Ayrshire’s first mosque.

However, the Sunday Herald understands that Strathclyde Police are ready to oppose any application for a rally that stirs up racial tensions.

Inspector Brian Gibson reportedly told a public meeting in Glasgow last week that such a proposal would not be welcomed by his force.

Groups need a local council’s permission if a rally requires the use of a ‘public space’, such as George Square, or if a procession involves road closures. It is at the point of a formal application that a police force can advise a local authority on whether an event should take place.

Osama Saeed, chief executive of the Scottish Islamic Foundation, said: “We congratulate Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde Police for the stance that they’ve taken on the SDL.

“The likelihood is, though, that even if banned there will be an illegal protest. We have to be ready for that.

“Some sort of action against this protest is inevitable and necessary, though it is essential that it is peaceful.”

A police spokesperson said: “A police officer in attendance at the [public] meeting stated if an application was received from a group whom we believe were intent on causing racial hatred on the streets, then Strathclyde Police would oppose it.

“Any request to hold a procession or assembly is made to the relevant local authorities who will, in the normal course of events, forward the application to the police and other interested parties as they see fit.”

An SDL spokesman said: “It will be a demo, We are not in a position to publish numbers but there is a lot of support from all over Scotland for this.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council said he was not aware of an SDL application having been made yet.

Amid claims of a ‘rigged-election’ by certain defeated Iranian presidential candidates, a top election official says the box-by-box details of the vote will be released.

“During previous elections in the Islamic Republic, statistics concerning individual ballot boxes were considered confidential information … this kind of information was only available to certain officials,” deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s election headquarters Ali-Asghar Sharifi-Rad said Sunday.

According to Sharifi-Rad, the Ministry had, however, decided to publish the results “box by box,” to resolve ambiguities about the disputed election in which incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won a landslide victory, ILNA reported.

His comments came after the country’s highest electoral authority, the Guardian Council, said, “Votes collected in 50 cities surpass the number of people eligible to cast ballots in those areas.”

The extra votes amount to roughly three million ballots.

In 1987, the Arabs living in the territories occupied by Israeli in the 6-Day war began a series of riots and violent confrontations known as the Intifadeh, a movement quite independent from PLO leadership. Soon after, Islamic militants founded the Hamas movement. The movement was formed from the Mujama movement, which had been a political party with no military ambitions that was given some encouragement by Israel earlier in the decade, as a means of countering the influence of the PLO, and perhaps because the opposition of the Hamas to an international conference that would adjudicate the problem of Palestine, coincided with the policies of the Begin and Shamir governments.

The Hamas has a ‘military’ wing or wings that engages in terrorist acts and a ‘civilian’ wing that supposedly confines itself to education and ‘good works,’ Israel successively assassinated its leaders, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin and Sheikh Ahmed Rantissi, forcing the leadership underground. However, in January of 2006, candidates representing the Hamas swept to victory in Palestinian elections, overcoming the traditional leadership of the Fateh and PLO.

Use every means — the state tax bureau, for example, need only start finding out which cash-only businesses — gas stations, convenience stores — have been fiddling them, and they will be amazed to find what a high proportion are owned by Arabs — to stop up all the ways, other than the Saudi money that comes in, that help keep afloat the would-be murderers in our midst. Do not trust the locals to properly vet those who apply to visit as tourists or students, and simply cut off all of that altogether. We don’t need, we must not do, anything that swells the already dangerous-to-our-society’s-wellbeing ranks of Muslims. Thos who can openly, clearly, convincingly, make the case that they are real refugees from Islam, akin to those who were refugees from the Nazis, and from the Communists (and the former did not, once here, work to make this country safe for Nazism, and the later, once here, did not work to make this country safe for Communism), and can show it, by thought, word, and deed.

These last ten days have been instructive. These demonstrations, by aggressive, violent, hate-filled, at times nearly-hysterical people, who all over Europe have inspired, in non-Muslims who until now have been inclined to swallow the drip-drip-drip of the anti-Israel propaganda fed them by their political and, especially, media elites, a great revulsion. It has happened in Italy, where the spectacle of thousands of Muslims choosing to burn Israeli flags and end their antisemitic demonstrations in front of, right in the parvis of, the Duomo of Milan, and to do the same thing in Genoa, has infuriated not only bishops and cardinals, but people who may be as indifferent to organized religion, or even perhaps as anti-clerical as they come. And in Malta, the two hundred Muslims who marched have attracted all sorts of attention from the Maltese none of it favorable, for Malta, after all, is the place famous for holding out, historically, against Muslim would-be conquerors.

No, these demonstrations have actually been most instructive, most useful. More and more Europeans, even those indifferent too, or until now even mildly hostile to (because so steadily misinformed about) Israel, are way ahead of their leaders. They are worried about Islam, and that worry will only grow, and grow.
