The claim on Saturday contradicted assertions by the regime of President Bashar al-Assad that the blasts, which also wounded 166 people, were the work of al-Qa’ida and of the opposition Syrian National Council that the regime carried them out.

”One of our victorious Sunni brigades was able to target the state security building in Kfar Suseh in the heart of the … capital Damascus in a successful operation carried out by four of our kamikazes drawn from the best of our glorious men, leaving many dead and wounded from the ranks of the Assad gangs,” it said on its official website.

”We as defenders of the Syrian people and the sanctity of this nation send a message to Assad’s gangs: This is the beginning of the liberation of Damascus and the tip of the iceberg,” the statement added.

”Hence we warn our fellow citizens and advise them not to approach government centres or security branches … because our martyrdom brigades are in a state of maximum readiness to carry out quality operations in Aleppo, Damascus, and the blessed land of Syria in the next 10 days.”

The statement was signed by the ”Muslim Brotherhood’s media committee inside Syria”.

The bombings, the first against the powerful security services in central Damascus since an uprising against Assad began in March, came a day after the arrival of an advance group of Arab League monitors who are to oversee a deal to end the bloodshed.

After the attacks, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Meqdad said ”this is the gift we get from the terrorists and al-Qa’ida, but we are going to do all we can to facilitate the Arab League mission”….

Look, just because most car bombers are Muslim doesn’t mean that there’s a link between terror and Islam. . . is there?

No Contessa, the Times Square car bomber was not a frustrated Tea Party protester or one of those angry right wing extremists everyone in the Obama administration and their media hanger-ons begin warning us about every time the White House encounters some political blowback. No, he is that rarest of creatures, hardly ever seen in the wild anymore – a Muslim terrorist. Continued below the fold

Interview with an Unrepentant Suicide Bomber / thanks to the RoP

The bulb may not burn all that brightly for this failed bomber, but at least he knows his Qur’an better than the interviewer trying to reason with him.

“Why should I get married to one wife when there are 70 waiting for me” and “nobody is innocent” are the basic ingredients of this guys outlook on life, or rather DEATH……

As we all know from hours and hours of consuming the scanned and zapped pablum shot across the antennas and cable lines connecting vapid media talking heads in their pressed suits with the hoi poloi, Muslim terrorism is a rare event that hardly ever happens which receives a disproportionate amount of attention based on all the times it does happen. This is a tragedy because it scapegoats an otherwise peace loving religion that spread around the world through a massive program of conquest.

Of course there are the rights of the innocent to consider. No, not the innocent people who simply wanted to catch a production of the Lion King with their children without being blown to bits by an angry Pakistani Muslim. They don’t matter anymore than the beheaded Buddhist schoolteachers, the murdered Kashmiri Indians, the incinerated Israelis, the raped Australians or any of the other unfortunate infidels to come in contact with the peace loving missionaries of the Religion of Peace. We must consider the rights of the Muslims.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, after speculating that the car bomber was probably someone disgruntled about the health care bill has announced that no backlash will be tolerated. Of course there was no actual backlash, but luckily Bloomberg rushed ahead of traffic (something that, thanks to his new road redistributions, very few drivers in Manhattan can do anymore) to announce that it won’t be tolerated anyway. Which is good, because no doubt the average Upper West Sider had been seconds away from picking up a very tasteful Molotov cocktail from Bed, Bath and Beyond and going off to torch a mosque or two before being stopped by the Mayor’s timely warning.

But Bloomberg has been a tireless champion of pandering to Islamists. And like Contessa, he is extremely disappointed to discover that the terrorist is not one of those rabble who seem all fired up over compulsory health care (which he thinks is the best idea ever since letting billionaires buy their own elections). Not that, mind you, he has very much idea of what exactly they’re fired up about. It can be hard to stay in touch with current events and the views of the people for a hardworking public servant spending time on his own private island. Muslims, however, are a voting bloc. And Bloomy excels at pandering to voting blocs.

To fully gauge the difference between Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg, when the former was in office he warned Muslims against targeting Jews. When the latter is in office he warns everyone to stay away from the poor oppressed Muslims who have absolutely nothing to do with the car bombs they try to detonate near theaters, or the petrol bombs they try to plant around synagogues or the assaults they carry out on subways.

Sadly, the Times Square Car Bomber has become another of those inconvenient Muslims, the ones who give all the others a bad name. Of course, the vast majority of Muslims are peace loving. They don’t detonate car bombs. Some of them may contribute to “charities” such as the Holy Land Foundation which raise money for terrorists. And the political groups that represent them such as CAIR seem to have their own ties to terrorists, and spend a lot of time worrying about those other peace loving Muslims in Guantanamo Bay. But it wouldn’t be right to draw any conclusions from that.

It’s not as if you have to go more than five or six pages into the Koran to hear the Faithful being commanded to kill the unbelievers:

Jihad has been enjoined upon you even if it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not. (Koran 2:216)

If you find this charming passage a bit too confusing, fear not, clarification awaits, courtesy of the Tafsir al-Jalalayn, one of the two most popular exegeses on the Koran:

Prescribed for you, obligatory [for you], is fighting, disbelievers, though it be hateful to you, by nature, because of the hardship involved. Yet it may happen that you hate a thing which is good for you; and it may happen that you love a thing which is bad for you: because the soul inclines towards those desires which result in its destruction and its rejection of the religious obligations that would bring about its happiness. Perhaps, then, even if you are averse to it, you will find much good in fighting, as a result of victory, booty, martyrdom or reward; while, if you were to reject fighting, even if you would like to do so, you will find much evil, because then you may be subjugated, impoverished and denied the reward; God knows, what is good for you, and you know, this, not, so strive in what He commands you.

It’s unknown if our Times Square Car Bomber was a bad Muslim who found Jihad hateful, or a good Muslim who relished it. Did he spring delightedly to his task or just sigh and say, “Allah Knows Best” and begin scanning the Used Cars section of Craigslist in the hopes that Allah would send some booty his way.

Perhaps the friendly interviews he is currently experiencing will shed some light on the subject. Until then, the media will be happy to explain to us that his being a Muslim and a Car Bomber was one of those one in a million coincidences that happen now and then when the moon is shining and the clocks work and the hearts of young lovers are filled with terror because someone has been staying up late reading the Koran.

Yes he may be a Muslim and a car bomber, but who is to say that the two are connected? Aren’t there hundreds of car bombings daily by Buddhists, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Bahai, Mormons and the followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? You say there aren’t, but clearly you haven’t done the math. Think of all the car bombings that the media doesn’t report on because they’re being carried out by rich white males. Yes, now you’re getting it. Besides, what about Iraq? And the American Empire? And the striking miners and Manhattan being bought for a mere $24? How can you possibly focus on such a trivial thing as car bombing, when there are so many more important things to be worried about, like Bolivian coffee farmers not getting paid enough for coffee by Starbucks?

By the time the media is done, it will be explained comprehensively to us peasants that he was frustrated about losing his home to foreclosure. Granted no one else who loses their home to foreclosure seems to wait a year and then try to detonate a car bomb in Times Square. Also, he was angry at Bush. Sure, he actually went to be trained as a bomber while after Bush left office, but that’s one of those minor details that has nothing to do with what’s really important. That all this is our fault for not paying full price for the island of Manhattan and fighting back against Muslims when they try to kills us even if we go to great lengths to rebuild their lovely countries afterward. Just read Noam Chomsky, he’ll tell you all about it.

All these things can be explained given enough time. For example, the Fort Hood shooter wasn’t an angry Muslim who wanted to kill infidel American soldiers. Perish the thought! He was suffering from PTSD, even though he had never been in combat. But he picked up the PTSD from shaking hands with a veteran. Tragic that. Of course, he naturally went on a killing spree, but since then everything has been fine. At least until the next killing spree happens.

The moral of the story is that we can’t get too worked up about these things. Living in a modern globalist society that buys underpriced coffee from Bolivian farmers has consequences, you know. It’s time to move on now. Muslims tried to blow me up once and I never looked back. Terrorists will occasionally try to kill us, some of whom will by random chance be Muslims. And isn’t it only fair that they should have their turn? You can’t argue with that, unless you’re some kind of Islamophobe or something.

She counsels women to support jihad by keeping the warrior’s secrets and his home, and by wearing hijab. She also disapproves of women going out without a male escort or guide. But then, in an unconfirmed report, she goes further. According to Schone:

“Hassan also suggests that women can become suicide bombers, which she refers to as ‘martyrdom missions.’”

In Baquba, the Iraqi police detective flipped pointlessly through a file on his desk; the daylight was too faint to read by and the electricity had long since gone off. He seemed about to say something. Then a bomb exploded a few blocks away, and his office shook. The radios on his desk crackled. He nodded to his colleagues, and they ran into the hall to join police officers already rushing to the site of the explosion. As he rose to follow them, the detective – Major Hosham al-Tamimi, then director of the National Investigation and Information Bureau – indicated the file before him.

“You will like Baida,” he said. It was a curious thing to say about someone who sought to kill people like him and like me. He added, almost pensively: “I like Baida. She is… honest.”

Baida is one of 16 female would-be suicide-bomber suspects or accomplices who have been captured by the police in Diyala province since the beginning of 2008; almost as many have blown themselves up. When I first met Baida in February, she had already been in jail more than two months. She was in the same cell as another would-be suicide bomber, Ranya, who was 15 when she was caught on her way to a bombing, her vest already strapped on. Ranya’s mother was also in the jail because she was believed to be connected to those involved in trying to organise Ranya’s death.

Nowhere, it seems, have more women blown themselves up in so short a time as in Iraq, where there have been some 60 suicide bombings attempted or carried out by women, the majority of them in 2007 and 2008 – the numbers, for men as well as women, are lower this year, though the attacks continue. It is difficult to learn much about suicide bombers since there is rarely anything left of them.

Each woman’s story is unique, but their journeys to jihad do have things in common. Many have lost close male relatives. Baida and Ranya lost fathers and brothers. Many of the women live in isolated communities dominated by extremists, where radical understandings of Islam are the norm. In such places, women are often powerless to control much about their lives; they cannot choose whom they marry, how many children to have or whether they can go to school beyond the primary years. Becoming a suicide bomber is a choice of sorts that gives some women a sense of being special, with a distinguished destiny. But Hosham urged me not to generalise: “All the cases are different. Some are old; some are young; some are just criminals; some are believers. They have different reasons.”

The rise in the number of female suicide bombers in Iraq coincided with the expanding ability of the security forces to defeat bombers who were men. When, in 2006 and 2007, American and Iraqi forces began to use concrete barriers to protect government buildings, markets and other gathering places from car bombs, the insurgents turned to women, who could use to advantage their traditional dress: a voluminous, floor-length black abaya. Arab notions of modesty make it unthinkable that the police or guards would search women. Gradually the police learned to look for telltale signs, Hosham told me. Women often wear double abayas to hide their suicide vests. And they apply heavy make-up because they believe they are going to heaven and want to look their best. Last September, the Iraqi government completed training for 27 policewomen in Diyala. The effort came too late to save at least 130 people and probably more who have died in the province in suicide bombings carried out by women.

Hosham was right. I liked Baida immediately. She had an open face and pale skin, a medium build and an unassuming manner. Her black veil was simple. A few strands of light brown hair strayed out, suggesting that, while conservative, she was not rigid. She seemed educated and told her story in a straightforward way.

She began in a soft voice: “My name is Baida Abdul Karim al-Shammari, and I am from New Baquba near the general hospital. I am one of eight children; five were killed. The police raided our home. It was a half-hour before dawn during Ramadan. The Americans were with them.”

She added with a touch of pride: “My brothers were mujahideen. They made IEDs.” Mujahideen means holy fighters, and in the context of Iraq, they are fighters against the infidels, the Americans. IEDs are improvised explosive devices. She told me she helped make such devices, going to the market to buy wire and other bomb parts and working at putting bombs together. Men are routinely paid for such work; women are paid, too, but less. Baida was proud to be a volunteer. “I knew we were fighting against the Americans, and they are the occupation,” she told me. “We are doing it for God’s sake. We are doing it as jihad.”

When Baida was 17 her mother died, and a few months later, at her father’s behest, Baida married. Almost immediately she knew she had made a mistake. A week after her wedding, according to Baida, her husband threw a cup of cream at her head; soon beatings became regular. She smiled sweetly and shrugged: “His hand got used to beating me.”

For Baida, as for many Iraqi suicide bombers, violent insurgency was the family business. It was shortly after the American invasion that her brothers began to manufacture IEDs. One was killed when his handiwork exploded as he was concealing it. She had cousins who were also insurgents. While they were paid for their work, she said, she was herself motivated mainly by revenge. Later it would be revenge for the deaths of her father and four brothers in what she said was a joint American-Iraqi raid on their home, but at first it was more general. She told me she watched the Americans shoot a neighbour in 2005, and she replayed the image over and over in her mind: “I saw him running toward them, and then they shot him in the neck. I still see him. I still remember how he fell when the Americans shot him, and I saw him clawing on the ground in the dust before his soul left his body. After that I began to help with making the improvised explosive devices.”

Executing a successful suicide bombing is rarely a lone act. It requires preparing a suicide vest, teaching the would-be bomber how to use it, and planning the mission. It means in some cases setting up a camera nearby so that the event can be filmed. For women, who rarely drive in Iraq, it would be impossible to get to the bomb site without assistance. Most of the women who blew themselves up were supported and trained by a network of extremists – often family members already active in the insurgency.

After her brothers and father were killed, Baida began to work with some of her cousins; they were also fighters and even more radical Islamists than her brothers. One of them died in a suicide attack, but not before introducing her to a group, run from Syria, that was connected to the Islamic State of Iraq – an umbrella organisation of insurgency groups. A goal of the group was to prepare men and women for suicide missions. “Maybe I can introduce you to them,” she said warmly. “You could go meet them since they are free.”

Baida initially did not plan to become a suicide bomber. Her cell members announced their readiness for a suicide mission in front of the group, making a public commitment, signalling that they had embraced the idea of a certain kind of death that would bring membership in a holy community.

The group dynamic seemed designed to make participants feel as if they were freely choosing their destiny. That sense of freedom was an important component of their metamorphosis into suicide bombers. It was certainly important to Baida, who felt she controlled little in her life, to feel in control of her death. When I brought up the reality that the vast majority of suicide bombings in Iraq kill ordinary Iraqis, she would only say that she thought killing Iraqis was haram, or forbidden.

“We had meetings of 11 people; some came to the meeting with their faces covered,” Baida told me. “There were three women in the group. You could choose whether you wanted to do it. They wanted me to wear the explosive belt against the police, but I refused. I said: ‘I will not do it against Iraqis.’ I said: ‘If I do it against the police I will go to hell because the police are Muslims. But if I do it against the Americans then I will go to heaven.”‘

A few weeks later, when I met Baida again, she tried to explain to me the line dividing when it is halal (permitted) to kill a person and when it is forbidden. She said she followed the rules of her group, but her cousins had different rules: they would kill anybody. Was there a difference, I wondered, between killing American soldiers and killing American civilians, like reconstruction workers? No, she said: “I am willing to explode them, even civilians, because they are invaders and blasphemers and Jewish. I will explode them first because they are Jewish and because they feel free to take our lands.” My interpreter asked where she stood: was it halal to kill her? “We consider you a spy, working with them,” Baida said.

Her choice of suicide was not entirely hers to make. The suicide vests given to participants were fitted with remote detonators so that someone else could explode the would-be bomber if she somehow failed to do it herself. This was a relatively new aspect of suicide bombing in Iraq. A second person, with a second detonator, would go on the mission to ensure against changes of heart. “One day this woman, Shaima, said: ‘I am ready.’ I saw Shaima when they put the vest on her. It was very heavy. With Shaima, they exploded her; she did not explode herself. There were five or six killed.”

By the time I met Baida she was eager to get on with her mission, waiting for the day when she would be released from jail and be able to pick up her vest, which she said was being kept for her. (She has yet to be charged with any crime.) She appeared to have let go of most earthly ties. A mother of two boys and a girl, all under eight, she had not seen them since her arrest last year. When I asked if they missed her, she said, almost airily: “Allah will take care of them.”

“As soon as I get out I will explode myself against the invaders,” she told me.

Before we left, I asked when it would be convenient to come and see her again. She said she was being moved soon to a psychiatric hospital in Baghdad, and she was afraid. I asked how we could get in touch. It turned out that she had smuggled a mobile phone into the jail, and kept the sim card hidden in her underwear. Once the phone itself was discovered – she had hidden it in a ceiling-light fixture – and confiscated, but she had somehow got access to another phone.

“They don’t know,” she said softly, nodding at the policemen in the room, who were staring at a music video. I felt a wave of unease. She was not a beginner.

Ranya, like Baida, was from an insurgent family. There was her aunt Wijdan, who police say was a recruiter of women; her father, who the police believed was involved in making bombs for the insurgency; and a brother who was abducted and may also have been involved. A year after Ranya’s father was kidnapped and killed by a Shiite militia, her mother acquiesced to Ranya’s marriage in 2007 to a minor figure in the Islamic State of Iraq.

Less than a year after she was married, Ranya’s husband brought her to a house in Baquba where two women he described as cousins outfitted her with a suicide vest: “They gave me something to eat and something to drink; it had a nice smell,” she recalled. “Then they put the explosive belt on me, those two girls did. I remember there were red wires, but I didn’t know what was inside it. They put it over my head.” Baida later told me that, from her own conversations in jail with Ranya, it was clear that she knew exactly what she was doing and was proud of it.

After Ranya was outfitted with the vest, a woman in the house, Um Fatima, took her shopping. They went to one of Baquba’s bazaars, and as Um Fatima looked at pots and pans Ranya drifted off.

“There was a moment, only a moment, when Ranya felt afraid of death,” Hosham said. Ranya told me she just wanted to see her mother. You can imagine that moment: realising that your life might be about to end and you aren’t ready.

When Um Fatima saw that she had lost Ranya, she fled the market, throwing away the remote detonator she was planning to use if Ranya failed to explode herself. The police later found the detonator. Meanwhile Ranya, wearing her suicide vest, unsure where she was going, wandered Baquba’s back alleys. As she approached a checkpoint manned by members of the Awakening, the American-backed neighbourhood watch formed to fight al-Qaida in Mesopotamia, they ordered her to stop, according to Lieutenant Kadhim Ahmed al-Tamimi, a detective involved in the case. “When they were in doubt about whether she was a suicide bomber they asked a woman on the street to search her, the woman opened the abaya, and when she saw all the wires, she cried out and ran away,” Kadhim said. A few hours later Ranya was in jail along with her mother. Ranya was convicted on 3 August under Iraq’s terrorism law and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

One day in March, an interpreter told me that Baida had called several times from the psychiatric hospital and wanted to see us again. We called and told her we would come the next morning.

The Rashad psychiatric hospital lies at the very end of the sprawling Shiite slum of Sadr City. Spread over extensive grounds, it had been neglected for years: the grass was shoulder high and the wards almost bare of furnishings (much of it had been looted after the US invasion). Some patients wandered about, talking to themselves. Some looked as if they had not washed in months.

We met Baida in the office of the head nurse for the criminally insane. She looked tired and much less ebullient than when I saw her in jail. I had brought her a bag of fresh oranges. She accepted them with a weak smile and only asked: “When will you come back? Tomorrow?” I worried she needed the company of more normal people.

When we returned to the office, one of our other interpreters took me aside. A military interpreter before he switched to journalism, he was streetwise; a Shiite who lived in a Sunni neighbourhood; a survivor. He told me Baida had called many times in the last three weeks wanting to know when I would visit the hospital – a bad sign, he said. There are no sureties when dealing with insurgents, but one rule is not to tell them exactly when you will be in a particular place. If they know, they can plan an ambush or a kidnapping or detonate an IED under your car. “Don’t go to see her again,” the interpreter said.

For the next meeting with Baida, our security adviser set a time limit, estimating that as soon as we arrived at the hospital, she might hear we were there and make a phone call to her jihadist friends. Baida called us twice to see “exactly when you are coming”. We lied, keeping it vague. When we did finally go, we met with Baida alone. I asked her gently, and as non-judgmentally as I could, whether she wanted to kill me because I was a foreigner.

“Frankly, yes.” Then she added, to soften it: “Not specifically you, because I know you.”

Would she tell her extremist cousins or her friends about me? “I won’t sacrifice my friendship,” she said. A moment later she reversed herself. “But if they insisted, I would. If they kill Americans they will do a big huge banquet.”

She smiled beatifically.

“Frankly, my cousins called me when they knew I would meet a journalist and translator and they did their best to get your descriptions and the date you would come. They asked me about the date many times. They know the way to the hospital. They would be waiting for you and would kill you. They said to me: ‘If you will do that for us, we will help you escape from the hospital, even from prison.’ They asked for other details: what were your names; what did you look like?”

She seemed excited now at the thought of our capture. “They do not want to kill you, but to torture you and make lunch of your flesh. I could not do anything to help you.”

I looked at my watch, worried we had stayed too long. I got up hurriedly, adjusted my veil, and thanked her for her time. Baida was smiling again. “If I had not seen you before and talked to you, I would kill you with my own hands,” she said. “Do not be deceived by my peaceful face. I have a heart of stone.”

A few days later Baida was transferred back to the jail in Baquba after doctors determined that she had no psychological disorder. “You have a brain like a computer. You shouldn’t be here,” they told her. At this time of writing she is still in jail. For now, she tells whoever asks that she’s prepared to go out and kill the enemy; but if she were to start saying that she no longer would do that, I imagine she would be released quite quickly. And I have no reason to doubt that she would then carry out her dream of blowing herself up.

Schools? No. Suicide bombs?

LAHORE: Eastern Turkistan Islami [sic] Party has prepared a female suicide bomber in Waziristan, which may target any important personality or a building, sources told Geo News Thursday.

If the name seems familiar, Bermuda just got four new residents from the East Turkestan Islamic Movement. Analysts differ on whether ETIM and the Turkistan Islamic Party (spellings vary between “Turkistan” and “Turkestan”) are part of the same entity. Whatever the affiliation of the group in this story, their reported activity provides another example of jihadists from supposedly localized disputes finding common cause, with a common reading of Islamic teachings on jihad.

Punjab Home Secretary Nadeem Hasan Asif dispatched a letter to the Law Enforcement Agencies.

The letter says the female bomber may be wearing a cloak (burqa).

The Home Secretary warned the LEAs of Punjab to be more alert and vigilant, adding the terrorists of Turkistan Party have planned targeting the significant installations by pipe bombs.

* Gee, how do we convince Mohammedans that they got their ‘religion’ all wrong? How can we break that ‘cycle of violence that makes us just like them if we fight hate with hate?’

They should get what they deserve and what Shariah order us to do with such people. Beheading them. And Inshallah this Pig of Faithfreedom will soon meet this definite fate.

Someone alerted me to this discussion and I joined that blog nicknamed as Zafar, and posing as a concerned Muslim begged this terrorist to answer the charges. This man was inviting Muslim youths to join the Jihad, kill until they are killed. Was he able to defend logically the faith for which he was ready to take so many lives?

The terrorist’s response was the same. He insisted that Muhammad never explained his religion to anyone. He sent ultimatums to the rulers and if they did not accept him, he raided their towns and imposed his religion on their inhabitants by force. He said,

…arguing with someone about Islam always lead to confusion and mislead the person towards Irtadaad (apostasy)” and added, “The True Path, The True Solution was Qitaal (fighting and killing) at that time. Is Qitaal today, and WIll be Qitaal forever, no matter how much the time will change.

The fact is that this terrorist knew his religion well; and unlike most Muslims, who shamelessly conceal the truth and lie to you in your face, he was very candid about what Islam really is. At no time Muhammad tried to reason and to explain his claim in a logical way. He simply resorted to threats and violence. That was how Islam spread during his time and after him. In the field of reason, he was very weak.

Today, some Muslim intellectuals think they can do what their prophet failed to do and try to defend Islam logically. As the result they expose the fallacies of Islam more and bring further disgrace and disrepute upon their religion.

I have extended an open invitation to all the Muslim scholars to respond to my charges against Muhammad, and to prove me wrong. I have promised to publicly announce my defeat, to shut down faithfreedom.org, and to even pay them $50,000 dollars reward if they can prove any of my charges against Muhammad wrong. Few have taken up this challenge. My debates with those, who were valiant to debate, are published for all to see. These debates have caused more doubts in the minds of Muslims and have led many of them to leave Islam.

Following the tradition of their prophet, Muslim scholars avoid real debates. They will occasionally debate with Christians and use tu quo que in lieu of logic, but never debate with ex-Muslims, because they know they cannot claim victory through logical fallacies. Even new converts to Islam, like Hamza Yusuf, Yusuf Islam, Yusuf Este, and Tawfiq Idris have been affected by the Islamic cowardice and have refused to answer this author’s invitation to debate. I asked these gentlemen to please explain what they saw in Islam that led them to convert. They did not respond. Doesn’t it mean that they cannot answer this question and their conversion has been whimsical?

However, Muslim or not, we are all humans and give in to temptation. Today, I am going to talk about the temptation of Dr. Mohammad Omar Farooq, an associate professor of economics and finance at Upper Iowa University.

Dr. Mohammad Omar Farooq

Dr. Mohammad Omar Farooq is a valiant man. He decided to respond to ex-Muslims’ charges made against Islam and even put his name to it. However, he did not send his rebuttal to us so we can publish it and respond to it. Instead, he sent it to Islamicity.com. I said he is courageous. I did not say he is reckless. Apparently he wrote that piece in 2005, but only now I came to learn about it. Here is my response to Dr. Farooq, which I will email it to him right away.

In his article, entitled “Did the Prophet endorse suicide bombing?” Dr. Farooq argued that the former Muslims are distorting the truth with “half truths and no truth” to dupe the uninformed or less informed readers and confuse them with “propagandist approach.”

After this premise the good doctor went on to disprove Abul Kasem, who said Islam encourages suicide bombing.

Abul Kasem quoted a hadith to back his claim. Dr. Farooq, said this hadith does not tell the full story and he quoted a more detailed version of the same hadith to prove Abul Kasem is deceptive. Here is the hadith quoted by Dr. Farooq.

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 5, Book 59, Number 509:
Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa:

We went out to Khaibar in the company of the Prophet. While we were proceeding at night, a man from the group said to ‘Amir, “O ‘Amir! Won’t you let us hear your poetry?” ‘Amir was a poet, so he got down and started reciting for the people poetry that kept pace with the camels’ footsteps, saying:– “O Allah! Without You we Would not have been guided On the right path Neither would be have given In charity, nor would We have prayed. So please forgive us, what we have committed (i.e. our defects); let all of us Be sacrificed for Your Cause And send Sakina (i.e. calmness) Upon us to make our feet firm When we meet our enemy, and If they will call us towards An unjust thing, We will refuse. The unbelievers have made a hue and Cry to ask others’ help Against us.” The Prophet on that, asked, “Who is that (camel) driver (reciting poetry)?” The people said, “He is ‘Amir bin Al-Akwa’.”

Then the Prophet said, “May Allah bestow His Mercy on him.” A man amongst the people said, “O Allah’s Prophet! has (martyrdom) been granted to him. Would that you let us enjoy his company longer.” Then we reached and besieged Khaibar till we were afflicted with severe hunger. Then Allah helped the Muslims conquer it (i.e. Khaibar). … So when the army files were arranged in rows (for the clash), ‘Amir’s sword was short and he aimed at the leg of a Jew to strike it, but the sharp blade of the sword returned to him and injured his own knee, and that caused him to die. When they returned from the battle, Allah’s Apostle saw me (in a sad mood). He took my hand and said, “What is bothering you?” I replied, “Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you! The people say that the deeds of ‘Amir are lost.” The Prophet said, “Whoever says so, is mistaken, for ‘Amir has got a double reward.” The Prophet raised two fingers and added, “He (i.e. Amir) was a persevering struggler in the Cause of Allah and there are few ‘Arabs who achieved the like of (good deeds) ‘Amir had done.”

After quoting this hadith Dr. Farooq argued:

So, did Amir commit suicide and the Prophet praised his “suicidal” action? No. Amir DID NOT commit suicide and the Prophet DID NOT praise suicide. Such are the glaring misrepresentations and lies being spread about Islam!

Such exposure of lies or ignorant claims of these former Muslims may not stop them from their anti-Islamic propaganda, but Muslims themselves need to be educated about Islam and its various sources (the Qur’an, hadith, history books, commentaries, etc.). More importantly, Muslims need to be educated in these regards in a self-critical manner.

Does this hadith make Islam look better? We never said Muhammad encouraged suicide. Although he himself attempted it, he said that Allah will punish those who commit suicide. He encouraged murder-suicide. He said getting killed while killing in the path of Islam will attract the highest reward. So, if Amir had turned the sword on himself intentionally, he would have gone to hell, but since his intention was to kill a defenseless Jew and was killed accidentally by his own sword, his reward will be doubled. The moral of the story is clear. If you kill yourself you will go to hell, but if you are killed while attempting to kill an infidel you will be rewarded.

Doesn’t this encourage suicide bombing? Many of the suicide bombers are frustrated people. They are ordinary Muslims, who face a life crisis. Then they are told that if they kill non-Muslims and in the process end their own miserable life, they will be rewarded handsomely and all their problems will go away.

Using this Islamic logic, an Iraqi woman had 80 young women raped then recruited as suicide bombers.

Once these girls were raped, she told them that they are sinners, that there is no future for them either in this world or in the next. But there is one way out. The way out is to become martyrs.

In this macabre enterprise, no one was doing anything un-Islamic; everyone thought he or she will be rewarded. In Islam, you can commit all sorts of crimes; and if it is done for the advancement of Islam, you will be rewarded. The rapists thought they will be rewarded; the woman, who encouraged these victims of rape to become suicide bombers, thought she will be rewarded; and the victims themselves, who carried out the suicide bombings, thought they will be rewarded. In Islam, it is the intention that counts. If your intention is to murder non-Muslims, or even Muslims, who, you think, are murtad and do not interpret Islam in the “right” way, you will be rewarded. You can rape them, loot them, murder them and treat them with utmost savagery and you will be rewarded. This is Islam – the only major religion that is completely divorced from the Golden Rule and actually prescribes qildhat, being harsh to unbelievers. (Q. 48:29; 9:123),

Dr. Farooq ended his article saying, “Life is the most precious and sanctified thing in this world. That applies to our lives and others’ lives.”

However, he failed to mention that the life of non-Muslims is not worth much. There are countless verses and hadiths that make this point clear. For example:

Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them” (Q. 9:5; 2:191)

or

It is not for any prophet to have captives until he hath made slaughter in the land. Ye desire the lure of this world and Allah desireth (for you) the Hereafter, and Allah is Mighty, Wise. (Q. 8:67)

This sura, appropriately called ‘Spoils of War’, was written after the battle of Badr. Muslims did not want to kill the captives. They wanted to return them in exchange for ransom. But the bloodthirsty prophet of Allah wanted his vengeance. Hence the above verse. He tells his followers, don’t worry about ransom, there is more to come. It does not behoove a prophet to stop killing just for a miser ransom. My thirst for blood must be satisfied. These captives derided me when I was in Mecca and now I want to take my sweet revenge. So, he ordered beheading of his captives of war. No matter how you look at it, what he did was war crime.

It is shameful for Muslims, especially those, who claim to be scholars and know the truth, to tell us that Islam respects human life when the reverse is true. From the time Muhammad managed to fool a bunch of savages in Medina, he did nothing but raiding, looting and killing. How can anyone say Islam respects life when according to an estimate more than 280 million people have been slaughtered by Muslims since the inception of Islam? Muslims follow the examples set by their prophet. The victims of Islam are increasing and will continue to increase until Islam is eradicated. No other cause has taken more tolls on humanity than Islam.

Then Dr. Farooq quoted the Talmudic fairytale about Abel and Cain that is rehashed in the Quran to claim Islam respects human life.

We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person – unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land, it would be as if he slew the whole people; and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our Apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. [Qur'an 5:35]

What this story has to do with Islam is unclear. Why Muslims keep parroting it when this is not a teaching of Muhammad, but part of a nonsensical Jewish narrative that Muhammad recounted? Who is engaging in deception here? As far as Muhammad is concerned, the non-believers have to be killed, punished by Muslim’s hands, and covered with shame (Q. 9:14). Muslims must kill; and if in the process they are killed, they would be rewarded. Doesn’t this amount to inspiration for suicide bombing?

It is amazing that Dr. Farooq is incapable of seeong the goriness of the hadith that he quoted. Muslims are so engulfed in evil that they cannot see it. That hadith alone is enough to prove Islam is evil; but to a Muslims, who has been exposed to such evil teachings since his childhood, it is normal.

I will send Dr. Farooq the link to this article. Does anyone think that he will respond? Muslims are valiant only in killing defenseless people. There ends their valor. When it comes to defending Islam logically, they are timid. And Dr. Farooq wonders why Muslim youths are leaving Islam. It’s because they can see Islam is phony and the so-called Muslim scholars are dumbfounded when Islam is criticized. All they can do is to kill, but they cannot answer logical questions.

I will publish Dr. Farooq’s response, if he ever responds. But don’t hold your breath. Hell may freeze before Muslim schoalrs find courage to confront ex-Muslims. Nothing will destroy Islam faster than such a confrontation. Muslim scholars know it well. That is why they pretend they do not see us. That is why Muhammad prescribed swift death for apostates.

Iraqi security forces have arrested four children who were allegedly part of a group of youngsters being groomed by al-Qaeda to become suicide bombers, an Iraqi army general said.

The children, who were detained in a village near the northern city of Kirkuk, were part of a cell known as the “Birds of Paradise” and were being specially trained to avoid detection as they carried out attacks, security officials said.

“Special forces units have arrested an organisation of children consisting of four individuals under the age of 14 who call themselves the ‘Birds of Paradise’,” said General Abdelamir al-Zaidi, the commander of the Iraqi army division in Kirkuk. “The group relies on children and is connected to al-Qaeda. It works to recruit children and young people to carry out suicide attacks and to aid the terrorist groups in detonating roadside bombs.”

Al-Qaeda groups have previously used Iraqi children to carry out attacks on US and Iraqi security forces, even using them in one instance as a cover to sneak a car bomb past a Baghdad checkpoint before detonating the device with the youngsters still inside. Militants have also been accused of using mentally disabled women as suicide bombers.

Other insurgent groups have used children to fire rocket-propelled grenades and set roadside bombs, knowing that they were less likely to be shot at by soldiers.

The newly discovered children’s cell appeared to derive its name from the Islamic belief that when children die they become birds of paradise.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich city claimed by the Kurds as part of their semi-autonomous homeland to the north, lies between the two remaining areas where al-Qaeda is still a prominent force — Baqouba to the south and Mosul to the northwest. Tensions between rival Kurds, Arabs and Turkmen are high in the city, and there are fears that the ethnic fault line could split into a new conflict.

Iraqi security forces arrested several other people in the sweep, the general said. Another officer said that the use of children showed that al-Qaeda was becoming more desperate as the security forces grew in strength and ability.

“This is a new method and it is the method of someone who is losing the war,” he said. “Their infrastructure is being destroyed and their leaders are being arrested and killed. They are sending a message that, ‘we are still here, but we have to rely on every method to carry out our terrorist operations’.”

Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister, has warned repeatedly in recent weeks of the danger of renewed violence. “Today we face a new war of subversion, sedition and suspicion,” he told a gathering of police officers at the Ministry of Interior this weekend, warning that factions within Iraq were still trying to undermine the fragile status quo after years of bloodshed.

The country has experienced a sudden resurgence in attacks recently, mainly targeting police and army units, and irregular militias working alongside the security forces.

In Fallujah yesterday the young daughter and niece of a police officer were killed by a bomb left outside the family house. A suicide bomber wearing an Iraqi army uniform blew himself up near a contingent of United States troops visiting the mayor of Baqouba, wounding eight Americans and killing three Iraqis.
