In a horrible incident in Mississauga, Ontario, a journalist for a Canadian-Pakistani paper was savagely beaten by two Muslim men who demanded that he “stop writing against Islam.”
CHICAGO — A journalist for the Mississauga, Ont.-based newspaper The Pakistan Post was assaulted by two men, one armed with a cricket bat, who warned him to stop “writing against Islam” and a Pakistan-based religious organization, the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) reported Thursday.
Journalist Jawaad Faizi was attacked on the evening of April 17 while sitting in his car outside the home of the newspaper’s editor, Amir Arain. The two men smashed the car windows, and repeatedly hit Faizi. They fled when they saw him call 911 on his cell phone.
During the attack, Faizi said, the men told him to stop writing critically of the religious organization Idara Minhaj-ul-Quran and its leader, Cleric Allama Tahir-Ul-Qadri. Allama Tahir-Ul-Qadri is a frequent visitor to Canada, CJFE said.
By cravenly surrendering to Islamist demands over the Danish Mohammed cartoons, mainstream media set the stage for incidents like this. Islamists know that threats and violence will achieve their goals, and that the media won’t stand up for their own principles.
There will be more.
UPDATE at 4/19/07
By the way, this article shows us what it takes for trade journal Editor & Publisher to use the words “Islamic Fanatics” — one of their own has to be the victim.
The headline: “Islamic Fanatics Beat Journo in Canada.” with thanks to LGF
*No, his name is not Gavin King
Pity
The stage for this was set in the eighties when the West cravenly failed to respond, when Salman Rushdie was fatwaed.
We are only just beginning to pay; the larger bill come in years to come.
Why would Islamists attack Gavin King? That would be biting the hand that feeds them. On the other hand, it would be nice if some normal people got hold of him and kicked him around a bit.
As for the article, it’s nice to see what the peaceful ones do when they are in a free society. Punks will be punks I guess.

The version of the article on Clarity & Resolve says the police “cannot comment”, and are likely to refer it to the “Diversity Relations Unit”, which sounds to me like they will do nothing. I hope I’m wrong.
