Inner struggle till it hurts…

A CRISIS meeting of Pakistan’s new coalition Government has been warned that it could lose control of the North West Frontier Province, which is believed to hold most of its nuclear arsenal.

The warning came yesterday from the coalition leader, who, although he is part of the new Government, is regarded as having the closest links to al-Qa’ida and Taliban militants sweeping through the region. Maulana Fazlur Rehman bluntly told his colleagues: “The North West Frontier province is breaking away from Pakistan. That is what is happening. That is the reality.”

Hamas asks Egypt to help save ‘Mother of Martyrs’

By KHALED ABU TOAMEH

Miriam Farhat, the Palestinian mother who became famous in 2002 when she appeared in a video encouraging her son to attack a Jewish settlement in the Gaza Strip, was reported Thursday to be in critical condition after suffering a massive heart attack.

When I see all the Jews in Palestine killed, that will be enough for me,” she said on camera. “I wish he will kill as many as he can, so they will be scared.”

Her son Muhammad, 19, killed five teenagers and wounded 23 people at Atzmona before he was shot dead in March of that year.

Cyprus: “Peace in our time, land for peace” or ‘there’s a sucker born every minute…’

Dancing with wolves:

Cyprus’ President Dimitris Christofias (R) shakes hands with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat after their meeting, as U.N. representative Taye-Brook Zerihoun (C) looks on in the buffer zone of divided Nicosia in Cyprus July 25, 2008. Leaders of Cyprus’ estranged Greek and Turkish communities agreed on Friday to re-launch talks on September 3 to reunite the island, where division is hampering Turkey’s European Union aspirations.

*  The little commie-president of Cyprus does what commies in EUrabia do: he is about to give things away that are not his to give. Its not even 30 years that the Turks overran northern Cyprus, raped and killed 8000  Greek Cypriots, drove them out of their homes, distroyed their places of worship and stole their property. Dimitris is yet another “yes we can” advocate for “CHANGE”…

2nd polio victim in Pakistani valley where Islamic militants impede vaccinations

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) – A second young girl has tested positive for polio in a northwestern Pakistan valley where militants have warned against vaccinations and security fears will prevent health workers from carrying out a new anti-polio campaign, officials said Sunday.
A three-day polio vaccination campaign for children under age 5 is scheduled to begin
Monday in the North West Frontier Province.

But the campaign will not be carried out in two areas of the province’s Swat Valley due to «uncertainty» and deteriorating security in recent days, said Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan, a senior provincial health official.
«Common people cannot go there now. How will our (vaccination) teams go?» Khan said. He did not say whether militants have issued any new threats against vaccinations in the two Swat areas _ Kabal and Matta _ where Monday’s campaign will not start.

US military: Iraq inmates imposed Islamic justice

* Nothing is worse than water boarding and butt-pyramids, right? RIGHT??

By KIM GAMEL, Associated Press

For years, extremist Iraqi detainees in U.S. custody held self-styled Islamic courts and tortured or killed inmates who refused to join them, military officials said, disclosing new details about the use of American prisons to recruit for the insurgency.

* Its only a crime when Americans do it…

The problem became the main catalyst for a decision to separate moderate detainees from the extremists, part of a broader reform package aimed at correcting widespread U.S. prison abuses that sparked international criticism.

“We were having people who weren’t insurgents who were being forced to be insurgents because of the power of these courts, the power of al-Qaida and other extremist groups,” said Lt. Col. Kenneth Plowman, a spokesman for Task Force 134, which operates coalition detention facilities in Iraq.

Britain: Afghan Asylum Seeker Goes on Rape Spree

Nottingham Evening Post

An asylum seeker from Afghanistan has appeared in court charged with a series of sex attacks in Nottingham. Norooz Hameed Khan, formerly of Kimberley Street, Sneinton, spoke only to confirm his name and address at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He had pleaded not guilty to four charges of sexual assault and one of actual bodily harm at a previous appearance. Khan has lived in Rotherham since he applied to become an asylum seeker in January 2008. He said he had fled the Taliban. Khan, 25, is accused of sexually assaulting four women, biting the cheek of one of them, in December 2006.

Militant threats and fighting between insurgents and security forces have prevented anti-polio vaccination campaigns in much of Swat since 2007. Militants have beaten up
health workers and issued warnings against vaccinations.
Polio has resurfaced in Swat, where the last case of the disease was reported in 2003.
Khan said an 8-month-old girl was recently diagnosed with polio. Her cousin, also 8 months old, was reported to have polio about 10 days ago.
The two girls are from Ali Gram village, which is located in the militant stronghold of Kabal, Khan said.

The province’s new government has struck a peace deal with Fazlullah supporters in return for a promise that army troops will be withdrawn from Swat. Troops regained control of vast areas of Swat from militants last year.
Polio is endemic in Pakistan, according to the World Health Organization. Pakistani officials hope the disease will be eliminated by the end of this year.
Polio mostly strikes children under age 5 and is spread when people come into contact with the feces of those with the
virus. It usually attacks the nervous system, causing paralysis, muscular atrophy, deformation and sometimes death.
