A group of Muslims burnt part of a church in a village in Aswan Governorate, 800km south of Cairo, eyewitnesses said Friday.
A group of Muslims gathered after Friday prayers outside Saint George’s Church in the village of Marinab, close to the town of Edfu, the eyewitnesses also said.
Security sources said a group of Muslims clashed with the village’s Christian residents and destroyed their shops, adding that Central Security Forces cordoned off the village to control the clashes.
Earlier this month, Christian-affiliated news websites reported that a group of Salafis had warned Christians not to leave their homes in Marinab unless they removed the dome from Saint George’s Church, which was restored this month.*
* Which means the Muslims are enforcing the pact of Umar, which states:
We shall not build, in our cities or in their neighborhood, new monasteries, Churches, convents, or monks’ cells, nor shall we repair, by day or by night, such of them as fall in ruins or are situated in the quarters of the Muslims.

Throng of 3,000, including Salafists, burn Christian-owned houses, businesses.Â CAIRO, Egypt, September 30 (CDN) â€” A group of hard-line Muslims attacked a church building in Upper Egypt this afternoon, torching the structure and then looting and burning nearby Christian-owned homes and businesses.
The 3,000-strong mob of hard-line and Salafi Muslims gutted the Mar Gerges Church in the Elmarenab village of Aswan, then demolished much of its remains, multiple witnesses at the scene said. The mob also razed four homes near the church and two businesses, all Christian-owned.
Looting was also reported.Michael Ramzy, a villager in Elmarenab, said the attack started shortly after Muslims held their afternoon prayers.
“Imams in more than 20 mosques called for crowds to gather and destroy the church and demolish the houses of the Copts and loot their properties,” Ramzy told local media.Continue readingÂ â†’
