Swiss Muslims’ protest with yellow star called ‘idiotic’

 BERLIN (JTA) –– Muslims in Switzerland used a yellow star to protest discrimination, irking local Jewish leaders.

Some 2,000 people showed up for the Oct. 29 demonstration in Bern initiated by the Islamic Central Council of Switzerland, a  conservative Islamic organization, to protest anti-Muslim discrimination. Protesters wore a yellow star sticker printed with the word “Muslim” reminiscent of the one that the Nazis forced Jews to wear during the Third Reich. Some protesters constructed a plastic model of a mosque with minarets, which are banned in Switzerland.

Texas gun instructor draws heat for anti-Muslim ad

MASON, Texas (AP) — On a YouTube clip that has gone viral, brash Texas handgun instructor Crockett Keller defiantly tells Muslims and non-Christian Arabs he won’t teach them how to handle a firearm.

State officials see the ad as possible discrimination, and may revoke Keller’s instructor license.

Call for Moroccan Government to Create Agency to ‘Fight Evangelisation’

In 2010, the Minister of the Interior ordered the expulsion of eight foreign evangelists, which took the number of foreigners accused of Catholic proselytism who have been expelled from Morocco to 128.

In Morocco, a country with around a thousand Catholics, the penal code provides for penalties ranging from 6 months to 3 years in prison for any person accused of preaching for the propagation of religions other than Islam.  (Islam vs Europe)

Danish high school students visit Londonistan to learn about Islam

Looks like there are never enough Muslims in Denmark. The cartoon riots seem to be forgotten.

Islam in Europe  28 students from the 8th and 9th grades of the Regnbueskolen high-school in the Aarhus suburb of Hammel visited the London Central Mosque as part of their London trip.

“It was a great experience! It was experiencing the religion from within, gave us insight into Islam in a totally different way than we had imagined. We think everybody should try it, especially those who are repulsed by other religions, since it was an experience we’ll never forget. To visit the mosque made us understand that people can easily live side by side while respecting each other, but without the same faith and beliefs,” write two of the students, Kristine Frandsen and Alma Fjeldsted.

The visit was organized in advance, and an imam awaited at the mosque’s entrance when the school arrived. Half the students were girls, and they wore headscarves out of respect for Islam. The students took their shoes off and were then brought into the prayer hall.

The students then visited the mosque’s museum, where they were shown the similarities (?) between Christianity and Islam. In the museum the imam offered the girls and female teachers to visit the ladies balcony. A friendly young Muslim woman then showed up to answer their questions on gender equality (gender equality?), Denmark’s headscarf debate, and the conditions, marriage and dress of Muslim women.

“Men aren’t better off then women, but we all have different roles in society. Women are responsible for teaching their children and making food, while men are responsible for honorably providing for their family. I wear a headscarf of my own free will, not because I’m forced to. (But if she doesn’t wear it her minders beat her green and blue and if she still doesn’t wear it out “of her free will” she will be murdered.) I don’t have a right to decide who are real Muslims and who aren’t, but I think it’s disrespectful and see no reason to show off my body in tight pants and low-cut shirts.”

Just two weeks ago, Reuters captured this image of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sharing a wide smile and V for victory with the Libyan fighters. When she hears polygamy touted in post-war Libya, is this champion of women’s rights still smiling?  (The Blaze)

Women in Libya and the allied countries that helped oust Muammar Gadhafi are feeling “unsettled” since the head of the interim government Mustafa Abdel-Jalil suggested last week that unrestricted polygamy will be allowed in the North African country where it’s been “limited and rare for decades.” Calling it “a sizable step backward for women,” the New York Times reports:

In his speech, Mr. Abdel-Jalil declared that a Qaddafi-era law that placed restrictions on multiple marriages, which is a tenet of Islamic law, or Shariah, would be done away with. The law, which stated that a first wife had to give permission before others were added, for instance, had kept polygamy rare here.

“This law is contrary to Shariah and must be stopped,” Mr. Abdel-Jalil told the crowd, vowing that the new government would adhere more faithfully to Shariah. The next day he reiterated the point to reporters at a news conference: “Shariah allows polygamy,” he said.

Under Islamic law, a man can marry up to four wives concurrently. New York Times correspondent Adam Nossiter gauged the reaction of university students and found that even the women who support Shariah law weren’t happy with the idea of polygamy:

“All the girls are mad that he said that,” said Bushra ben Omran, a 20-year-old English student. “I don’t want to marry somebody who is already married.”

BEIRUT (The Blaze/AP) — Syrian security forces opened fire Friday on protesters and hunted them down in house-to-house raids, killing about 30 people in the deadliest day in weeks in the country’s 7-month-old uprising, activists said.

An update from The New York Times, however, states that the death toll has risen to at least 40:

Syrian security forces killed at least 40 people on Friday during antigovernment demonstrations across the country, according to human rights activists.

Most of the deaths occurred in central Syria, the most restive region in the country, with 21 people killed in Homs and 14 in Hama.
